Pretty much the wedding of the century

SK-weddingI hadn’t planned to write about this wedding, but it was so darn bloggable, I had to. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve already bombarded my feed with photos. It almost made me want to get married all over again. Even my cousin, who is as blokey as they come {he’s a guy by the way} said that he wanted to get married all over again too. It was amazing. Let me start at the beginning…

My big sister and I are pretty much opposites. I like when we do things together and people will think we’re friends, and then I’ll tell them we’re actually sisters. They have to look a few times to figure it out. She’s petite, sporty, vivacious, outgoing, not-shy-at-all, happy to be centre of attention, can sing, can dance, stays up late, sleeps in late, couldn’t cook for a long time {but is getting there}, and just filled to the brim with personality. She’s loud too. So loud that I can find her within moments of entering a busy room. So loud that she startles small children. She’s the sort of person you just want to be friends with, because she’s fun to be around {and she’s loyal, and kind-hearted, and supportive, and just an amazing person}.

I’m tall, curvy, a little bit shy, hate being the centre of attention, I go to bed early and get up early, I can cook, and I’m not very loud. But together we work. We’ve been best friends since the day I arrived home and mum started dressing us in matching outfits for far too many years.

BUT this isn’t about me and her. This is about her and him; Sarah and Karl. Their love is so refreshing and beautiful. I feel like it kinda smacks you in the face through these photos. And being there in that room with them as they celebrated their wedding, was emotional and heart-warming.

I was given the job of being Chief ‘Bridesbabe’ at the wedding, which was an honour that I wasn’t sure I could deliver on. I’m as clumsy as they come, so the thought of having to fuss over her train scared me. So I employed the others bridesmaids {my sister Jenna and one of Sarah’s besties Beck} to help. Sadly, Sarah’s long-time best friend was too pregnant to travel and couldn’t make it on the day. But we made sure we included her so she almost felt like she was.

IMG_0992{Lacey was flowergirl and so beautifully behaved on the day. She said to the photographer moments before I snapped this, “Would you like to take a photo of me?”}

IMG_0862My sister is an Event Manager, which means she does weddings/concerts/conferences for a job. She owns her own business and it’s a thriving one. Everything ran smoothly all morning {except for my hair not working, but so minor}, so smoothly that the photographer was amazed at how on time we were. It was good because it took the stress out of the day.

The wedding was out at Sydney Polo Club, which was a good hour and a bit drive from where we were staying. The groom had organised some pretty fancy transportation for us. First, a stretched Bentley, then a helicopter ride and then some vintage cars. But first photos by the harbour…

The helicopter ride was so much fun. I was so nervous/excited, and nobody knew that we were getting there by helicopter so once we got to the property everyone came running out and was waving to us. What a fun way to arrive!

I’d love to say that I kept it together, but sadly I didn’t. We walked down the aisle to Sarah’s friends singing Never Tear Us Apart by INXS, and as soon as I saw Karl standing at the end of the aisle… my ugly cry came out. I’m not looking forward to seeing those photos when they come out. My sweet little sister was doing a crazy dance for me at the end of the aisle to make me stop crying. I pretty much have the best family. I wasn’t sure if was against the rules, but I grabbed Karl and gave him a hug once I got to the end of the aisle.

IMG_1007{To kick off the night we did something really cool. Each table was given a dance style – YMCA, Blame it on the boogie etc, and they each had to dance off. My family’s table got Gangnam Style – and totally won the dance off – in my eyes anyway}

The night finished with the best cake I’ve ever tasted, and let’s not kid ourselves… you know I’ve tasted a few. It was white chocolate and honeycomb made by All Things Sweet by Carissa. Dessert was an ice cream station which was a huge hit. They had an awesome band, with the lead singer Chris Luder – who used to be on Australian Idol. We danced and danced and danced and danced…

It was hard juggling the baby and everything. Eventually she went to sleep and then Lacey, Shane and I just danced. She slept through the loudest music, and was such a good girl. I had to drive us all back to our apartment, and would have loved to have had a few champagnes… but still had the best time. I did a speech, and although I was so super nervous {when will that quit!}, I got through it. Sarah and Karl did the most beautiful speeches to each other, and my Ma made everyone cry with her speech.

And now Sarah and Karl are hitched and on their honeymoon. It all goes so quickly. Now we’ve just got to work on my brother and his beautiful girlfriend, and then all us kids will officially be married!

  6. Chantelle, this honestly looks like THE most amazing wedding! I want to get married again too even though I only did it a month ago…. I totally wish your sister got married before me so I could’ve ‘borrowed’ (blatantly stolen?) some of her ideas. Stunning! xxx

  7. My mistake (or good on me, not sure which one yet) for showing my fiance the cake – he’s determined to have the same one now! Can I ask where your bridesbabes dresses are from? Gorgeous colour and designs, I’d love those for my girls!

  8. Jaw droppingly beautiful. Sometimes with a wedding with touches like a helicopter, for example, I wonder if it loses that personal, warm touch that I love about weddings? Well I can tell, just from the snaps you have shared, it didn’t. Gorgeous. When I grow up, I want this wedding.

  9. Wow, wow and wow! What a gorgeous wedding and your sister is stunning. Thanks for sharing. I always love to “stinkybeak” at weddings. Love the gold dinosaur name thingys! Congratulations to your sister. Oh and Lacey looked so grown up and so beautiful. xx

  10. How beautiful Chantelle! Looks like such a wonderfully happy day and I am officially going to be stealing the phrase “bloggable!!”

  11. Thank you for sharing your sister’s wedding. Oh, what a day! Being an events coordinator means she gets to see what she wanted and what she didn’t. Lots of practice on other people’s weddings! She (and you) did so beautifully! I can see you’re sisters – you have the same smile! x
