Have you ever wondered if you can make potato bake in the slow cooker?

Because I did… and I had to try it for myself.

And honestly? It works. Like, really works.

It’s creamy, full of flavour, and one of those recipes that feels a little bit too easy for how good it turns out. I’ve made it a couple of different ways now, depending on how much effort I have in me that day.

You can serve it straight from the slow cooker (not the prettiest, but still delicious), or finish it in the oven with a golden, cheesy top if you want that classic potato bake vibe.

Either way, it’s a winner.

How to make potato bake in the slow cooker

  1. Prep your potatoes

Peel and chop your potatoes into chunks or thick slices. No need to be perfect here, rustic works just fine.

  2. Add everything to the slow cooker

Place the potatoes, cream, French onion soup mix, and chopped bacon into your slow cooker.
Give everything a really good stir so the potatoes are coated in that creamy mixture.

  3. Cook low and slow

Pop the lid on and cook:
    High: 4 hours
    Low: 6 to 8 hours
The potatoes should be soft, tender, and full of flavour.

  4. Choose your finish (easy or fancy)

Option 1: Easy (straight from the slow cooker)
Stir through your cheese and leave it for about 10 minutes until melted.
Done. Serve it up just like that.

Option 2: Golden cheesy top (the classic finish)
Transfer the potato mixture into a baking dish.
Top with cheese and bake at 180ºC for 15 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.

  5. Serve and enjoy

Scoop it up while it’s hot and creamy. It’s perfect as a side dish or honestly… just eat it on its own. No judgement.
