Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama Review: Is it worth staying here?

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from visiting Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, it’s that where you stay can make a HUGE difference to your experience. Especially when you’ve spent the entire day walking around the parks and your feet are begging for a break.

We’ve stayed at Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama a few times now, and it’s become one of our favourite places to stay when visiting Tokyo Disney.

It’s close to the parks, the rooms are comfortable, the hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, and you get that little bit of Disney magic without necessarily paying the price of an official Disney hotel.

And after multiple visits, I feel like I know this place pretty well!

So, if you’re researching where to stay near Tokyo Disneyland, here’s my honest Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama review, including what we paid, what we loved, what could be better, and whether I’d recommend it for families.

Where is Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama?

One of the biggest reasons we keep returning to Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama is its location.

The hotel is situated within the Tokyo Disney Resort area, close to both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

It’s approximately a three-minute walk from the hotel to Bayside Station on the Disney Resort Line monorail, which makes getting around the resort really easy.

DisneySea is just one stop away, and Disneyland is also easily accessible using the monorail.

You can also get around using the hotel’s transport connections, depending on where you’re heading.

For us, being this close to the parks is a huge bonus.

After spending a full day at Disney, the last thing I want to do is navigate a long train journey back to our accommodation. I want to get back, shower, put my feet up and collapse into bed!

And if you want to head back to your room for a little rest before returning to the parks in the evening, staying nearby makes that much easier too.

Our room at Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama

On this particular visit, we booked a room for four people with four single beds.

The room had a private bathroom, a small balcony and enough space for us to settle in comfortably.

One of the things I love about staying in Japan is how thoughtfully everything is set up, and this hotel is no exception.

The beds were comfortable, the room was spotless, and there were plenty of little amenities to make our stay easier.

I’m talking toothbrushes, hairbrushes, skincare products, pyjamas and all those bits and pieces you might have forgotten to pack.

It’s the little things!

We also had a balcony, which turned out to be one of my favourite parts of our stay.

From our room, we could see the Disneyland castle and even watch the fireworks at night. How special is that?

Of course, views will depend on the room you book, so I wouldn’t assume every room has the same outlook.

Breakfast wasn’t included in our booking, although the hotel does have dining options available.

How much does Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama cost?

Let’s talk money, because I know this is one of the biggest considerations when planning a Japan holiday.

On this particular stay, we paid approximately $439 AUD per night for four people.

Now, that’s definitely more than you might pay for accommodation in other parts of Tokyo, but you’re paying for the convenience of being right near Disney.

And I actually think there’s good value to be found here if you’re flexible and keep checking prices.

Originally, I’d booked a cheaper hotel further away from the parks.

But because I’m someone who checks accommodation prices approximately 400 times before a holiday (surely I’m not alone?), I spotted a better deal at Grand Nikko and changed our booking.

I’m so glad I did.

Hotel prices fluctuate depending on the season, school holidays, room type and how far in advance you book, so the price we paid is just an example rather than a current rate.

My tip: Don’t automatically assume staying near Disney is going to be wildly more expensive. Compare the total cost of accommodation and transport before deciding where to stay.

Sometimes paying a little more for convenience is worth it.

What we loved about Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama

1. The kitsch yet beautiful atrium

Honestly, the first time you walk into this hotel, it’s pretty spectacular.

The enormous central atrium is filled with greenery, water features, beautiful lighting and colourful details.

It almost feels like you’ve stepped into a little indoor resort.

It’s grand, a little bit kitsch, and absolutely perfect for a Disney holiday.

Even after staying here multiple times, I still love walking through the hotel and looking around.

2. Being so close to Disneyland and DisneySea

I know I’ve already mentioned the location, but it really is one of the biggest reasons to stay here.

When you’re visiting Disney, you’re usually up early, walking all day and staying until the evening.

Being able to get back to your hotel without a long journey is such a relief.

And if you’re travelling with younger kids, or anyone who needs a break during the day, I think this is an even bigger advantage.

3. All the thoughtful Japanese hotel amenities

I love the little extras that come with staying in Japanese hotels.

Grand Nikko has provided things like toothbrushes, hairbrushes, skincare kits and pyjamas during our stays.

It makes packing a little easier, and there’s something so lovely about arriving at a hotel where so many things have already been thought of.

4. The Disney shop inside the hotel

Another fun little bonus is the Disney merchandise shop inside the hotel.

It’s handy if you want to pick up something before visiting the parks, or grab a little souvenir without spending extra time shopping during your Disney day.

I love anything that makes a busy park day run a little more smoothly!

5. The views from our balcony

Being able to see the Disneyland castle and fireworks from our balcony was such a highlight.

There’s something lovely about finishing a big Disney day and still getting a little bit of that magic back at your hotel.

If views are important to you, I’d recommend checking the room categories carefully when booking.

What we didn’t love about Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama

No hotel is perfect, and there are a couple of things worth knowing before you book.

The price: While I think Grand Nikko can be good value for its location, it is still more expensive than many hotels further away from Tokyo Disney Resort.

If you’re travelling on a tight budget, you may find cheaper accommodation elsewhere.

The convenience store situation: One of my favourite things about Japan is popping into a convenience store for snacks, drinks and something delicious to eat.

There’s a Lawson over at the nearby Hilton, but on our visit it was busy and didn’t have the hot food selection we’d normally expect.

And if you know how much I love Japanese convenience store food, you’ll understand why this matters. 😂

It’s certainly not a dealbreaker, but it’s something I’d consider if you’re planning on grabbing easy, inexpensive meals during your stay.

Is Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama good for families?

I think it’s a really good option for families visiting Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.

Being able to book a room with four single beds worked well for us, and having a private bathroom and a little balcony made the room comfortable.

The location is also a huge advantage when travelling with kids.

Instead of adding a long commute to an already exhausting day, you’re staying right near the action.

And while it’s not an official Disney hotel, the atmosphere still feels special enough to be part of your Disney holiday.

If you’re travelling with a family, I’d recommend checking the available room configurations carefully, as not every room will have the same bedding setup or occupancy limits.

How do you get from Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama to Disneyland and DisneySea?

The easiest option for us was the Disney Resort Line monorail.

Bayside Station is only a short walk from the hotel.

From there, you can take the monorail around the resort to access Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

DisneySea is particularly convenient because it’s just one stop away.

The Disney Resort Line is a paid service, so remember to factor those fares into your travel budget.

You can also check the hotel’s current shuttle arrangements when planning your stay.

Is Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama an official Disney hotel?

No, Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama isn’t one of Tokyo Disney Resort’s official Disney Hotels.

It’s a Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotel, which is a separate category.

That means you can stay very close to the parks without necessarily paying the premium associated with some of the Disney-branded accommodation.

However, it’s important to check which benefits apply to your hotel category, as perks such as early park entry aren’t automatically included.

For us, the location and comfort are the biggest selling points anyway.

Would we stay at Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama again?

Absolutely.

In fact, the fact that we’ve returned multiple times probably tells you everything you need to know.

I love the location, the comfortable rooms, the beautiful atrium and how easy it makes visiting Disney.

Is it the cheapest accommodation in Tokyo? Definitely not.

But is it worth considering if you’re spending a few days at Disneyland or DisneySea? I really think so.

For our family, it hits that sweet spot between comfort, convenience and feeling like we’re on a special holiday.

And if I spotted another great deal for a future Disney trip, I’d happily book it again.

My final tip: Before booking accommodation for Tokyo Disney, compare hotels around Bayside Station with options further away. Look at the total cost, how long it will take to get to the parks, and whether being close enough to return for a break is worth paying a little extra.

For us, it absolutely is.
