I’ve heard so many people talk about how tiny hotel rooms in Japan can be, but staying at OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts really showed me just how much you can squeeze into a small space. 😂
We stayed here for one night before boarding our Japan cruise, and I loved how cleverly everything was designed. Two beds up in a loft, a lounge that turned into another bed, and every little bit of space serving a purpose.
Was it small? UMMM YES.
But it was also surprisingly comfortable and such an interesting place to stay.
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Yokohama, particularly before a cruise, here’s my honest OMO7 Yokohama review, including what we paid, what the rooms are like, and whether I’d stay again.

Where is OMO7 Yokohama?
OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts is located in Kannai, a really convenient part of Yokohama, Japan.
The hotel is right by JR Kannai Station, making it easy to explore Yokohama and travel to other parts of Japan.
And one of the things I loved most about staying here was how much there was to do right outside the hotel.
We arrived before check-in, dropped off our luggage and headed out exploring.
There are loads of restaurants nearby, including sushi restaurants, a cute little bakery, a supermarket and, most importantly, a Creamia ice cream shop.
If you’ve been to Japan and tried Creamia, you’ll understand my excitement. IYKYK!
It’s also around a 10-minute walk to Yokohama Chinatown, which is an absolute must if you love delicious food.
Yokohama is somewhere we’ve always loved visiting. It’s fun, modern and feels a little slower than Tokyo, which makes it a lovely place to spend some time.

Our room at OMO7 Yokohama
We booked a room for three people, and the layout was unlike most hotel rooms I’ve stayed in.
Our room was a YAGURA Room, which is designed to make the most of a relatively small space.
There were two single beds up in a loft, with a little lounge area downstairs that converted into a third bed at night.
It was such a clever setup.
During the day, we had somewhere to sit and relax, and at night the lounge became another sleeping space.
There was also a little table and chairs, a television and storage cleverly tucked into the room.
Honestly, I found the whole design fascinating.
Every little bit of space had been thought about, and it was fun seeing how they’d managed to squeeze everything in.
The only interesting part was going to the toilet in the middle of the night when you’re sleeping upstairs.
Those stairs! 😂
They’re quite steep, so that’s definitely something to consider if you’re travelling with younger children or anyone who might struggle with stairs.

What was the bathroom like?
The bathroom was another clever use of space.
Instead of a traditional shower cubicle, we had a wet room.
Basically, you close the bathroom door and the whole room becomes your shower.
And don’t worry, the toilet was separate. Thankfully!
It was compact but practical, and everything worked well for our short stay.
How much did OMO7 Yokohama cost?
We paid $273 AUD for one night for three people, including tax.
For a modern hotel in such a convenient location, I thought that was pretty reasonable.
Of course, hotel prices change depending on your dates, room type and availability, so that’s just what we paid for our stay.
For us, the location was a big part of the value.
We wanted somewhere comfortable to stay before our cruise, with easy access to restaurants, transport and the cruise terminal.
And OMO7 Yokohama ticked those boxes.

What we loved about OMO7 Yokohama

1. The clever room design
I know I’ve already mentioned this, but the room really was one of the most interesting things about our stay.
The loft beds, convertible lounge and clever storage made such good use of the space.
I love accommodation that’s a little different, and this definitely was.

2. The rooftop overlooking Yokohama Stadium
This was such a fun feature!
The hotel is right beside Yokohama Stadium, and there’s a rooftop terrace where you can look out over the baseball stadium.
Imagine being able to watch some of the action from up there!
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see a baseball game, but the rooftop was still a really cool feature.
The hotel also hosts activities and occasional live music performances, which adds to the atmosphere.

3. The location
This was probably my favourite thing about staying here.
Having a train station right nearby made getting around easy, and there was so much to explore within walking distance.
From sushi and bakeries to supermarkets and ice cream, we were spoilt for choice.
And having Chinatown just a short walk away was a huge bonus.

4. The modern self-service check-in
Checking in was really simple.
The hotel has a self-service system where you scan your passport and follow the prompts.
Very modern, very efficient.
We arrived early, so we were able to store our luggage and head out exploring until our room was ready.

5. The little extras
One of the things I love about Japanese hotels is how thoughtful they are with amenities.
At OMO7 Yokohama, things like toothbrushes, hairbrushes and toiletries were available to collect from reception at no extra cost.
There’s also a little shop in the foyer, along with museum-style displays celebrating Yokohama.
I loved that the hotel felt modern but also connected to the city around it.
And another little bonus? The hotel has pet-friendly accommodation options, which I thought was lovely for people travelling with their dogs.
Staying at OMO7 Yokohama before a cruise
One of the main reasons we chose OMO7 Yokohama was because we were boarding our Princess cruise the following day.
Rather than travelling from Tokyo on embarkation morning, we wanted to stay nearby and make the morning a little easier.
And that was a great decision.
Well, mostly. 😂
There was a huge concert happening at Yokohama Stadium, right across from the hotel, and the whole area was incredibly busy.
People were lining up from early in the morning, and we couldn’t get a taxi or Uber anywhere.
So we walked to the cruise terminal.
With all our luggage.
Thankfully, it only took us around 15 minutes, so it wasn’t too bad.
Normally, getting to the terminal would have been an easy taxi trip, but at least we were close enough to walk when we needed to.
One thing worth knowing is that Yokohama has several cruise departure locations, so make sure you check which terminal your ship is leaving from before booking accommodation.
For our particular cruise, the location worked really well.
What we didn’t love about OMO7 Yokohama
The biggest downside was definitely the room size.
While I loved the clever design, it was SMALL.
With three people and luggage, there wasn’t a lot of extra space to spread out.
For one or two nights, I think it’s great.
But personally, I couldn’t exist in that little space for a long stay.
The loft stairs are also worth considering. They’re quite steep, and navigating them in the middle of the night was an experience!
If you prefer spacious rooms or you’re travelling with lots of luggage, I’d look at some of the hotel’s other room options.
And if there’s a major event happening at Yokohama Stadium, expect the surrounding area to be busy.
We certainly learned that firsthand.
Is OMO7 Yokohama good for families?
I think it can be a great option for families, particularly for a short stay.
Our YAGURA Room accommodated three people, and the loft layout was a fun change from a traditional hotel room.
For families with older kids or teenagers, I think the design could be a bit of a novelty.
However, I’d definitely consider the room size and stairs before booking.
If you’re staying longer or travelling with younger children, it might be worth comparing the different room configurations.
Would we stay at OMO7 Yokohama again?
Yes! Especially for a night or two.
I loved the modern feel, the clever design and the location.
Having so much to explore within walking distance made our short stay really enjoyable, and Yokohama itself is a city I’d happily spend more time in.
Would I book that tiny room for a week? Probably not.
But for a short stay before a cruise, it worked really well for us.
MY TIP: If you’re cruising from Yokohama, consider staying the night before rather than travelling from Tokyo on embarkation day.
It gives you time to explore Yokohama, enjoy some delicious food and start your holiday feeling a little more relaxed.
Unless there’s a massive concert happening across the road, of course. 😂
