Spiral.

We have a spiral staircase EXACTLY like this in our house. It makes for interesting times when pregnant, intoxicated or trying to carry a sleeping baby to bed whilst keeping baby asleep. Interesting.

I stumbled across this picture on this blog from Norway. I am in love. I now want to paint ours black. It’s a dark brown colour at present but would look sooooo good in black.

It would also be sooooo painful and tedious to paint. I know there is one thing that Hubby hates doing, and that’s painting. So not his thing. Can’t stand it. Won’t do it. Refuses to participate. Bad sport/painter.

I love it so. I’m going to work on it. xx

I think I’ll do without the dog caged under the stairs though. It’s not really my thing. AND if there’s one thing more annoying than stumbling down the stairs drunk, it’s stumbling down the stairs drunk with a dog trapped in cage under the stairs yapping away. So not my thing.

  1. Yeah, I have to agree with you about stumbling into the dig, NOT cool! Hehe But I DO love the way a spiral staircase looks, so elegant!

  2. Wow. I love spiral staircases – such an awesome feature. Does that mean Lacey has to learn to come down yours? Quite an obstacle for a little one!

Oh I have a non-painting man too! I have painted nearly all our house now.. just got the main bedroom left to do and am trying to get excited to do it!

  3. I HATE spiral staircases. Sure they are a spacesaver, but one too many trips up one while drunk/hungover/sick etc.

But I agree that if you have one, it would look better in black. 🙂

  4. I inspected a house for rent that had a spiral staircase and decided not to apply because of the probability of falling while intoxicated and the thought of a Dachshund (ie non-caged dog) trying to navigate it just didn’t fit.

  5. Amy – She has already figured out how to get up, but down…. not so much. She thinks that she can just step off in one mighty go and will make it safely to the bottom. Scary for us.

Helen + Miz – So cute. There is no way you would get furniture down those stairs. Ever. Ground floor furniture goes through the back door. Top floor furniture goes through our front door. Two way access.

    Nisha – Of course! IF it happens. ;

  6. hi chantelle, im a fellow lover of your blog!- thought it was bout time i left a comment- love your words, and you seem like such a wonderful momma! i used to live in a little flat with a spiral staircase, and it was a handmade spiral staircase too so it was a bit uneven and rickety definately dont miss it but they are soo romantic and whimsical…. a slick of tough wearing black paint would look amazing, the one at my old place was naked wood, i guess it added to the whole hand-madeness.. anyway once again thanks for sharing aspects of your life with all of us… have you ever thought about writing professionally?? you seem to write so effortlessly! have a nice weekend:)
p.s glad you got talked out of your month hiatus! yay

  7. I love spiral stairs!

I don’t think they could be any more dangerous than the full flight of stairs at my old place. They went straight down and the steps were shorter than my feet!! I just grabbed the handrail the whole way every time. I don’t think I ever got used to it.

Spiral stairs though just give you that feeling of romance everytime you walk down them. Maybe summing up too many fantasies or something? But my school library had a spiral staircase (as well as the usual one) and I always used that, even if it meant a trip to the other end of the floor.

Also, I love the black on white, it’s beautiful. I was worried how you’d use the top floor once it was painted (or even get down the stairs!!!) So was relieved to read you have different entrances!
