How To Throw A My Little Pony Tea Party

Brought to you by My Little Pony.My Little Pony Party Ideas: We hosted a little My Little Pony party recently for my daughter who loves My Little Pony and it was such a sweet get together....

When we moved up here {to the border of New South Wales and Queensland} five years ago, we didn’t know anyone. Looking back I can’t believe we did. We knew no one, had only ever been to the area once {and that was when we flew up to buy the house}, and we were leaving behind all of our family and friends.

Hubby was sure to make friends through work, but he always tells me he doesn’t need new friends because he has me {sweet, right?}. I work alone, so it’s a little harder for me. We moved just before Lacey started preschool, because I knew if we were going to move out of Bondi it had to be before she’d made all her good friends and settled into school, I didn’t want to disrupt that.

That leap of faith worked out for us. We love our beautiful home, we love the area we picked and think it’s the best area of all the suburbs nearby, and best of all we’ve made some really great friendships, and the kids have too.

One of the funny things is, my family have been slowly following me up too. As soon as we bought our house I called my mum and said how excited I was, but the saddest thing was that I wouldn’t be near her… so she put in a transfer and moved up six months after us, and my sister and her family followed a year later. I’m working on the rest of my family.

With Lulu turning four this month {how? Seriously. Where has the time gone?}, I decided to throw a little friendship party. Just something small with her close little friends. Lulu is obsessed with My Little Pony at the moment, so of course the theme was My Little Pony. She’s so into them but she spends time everyday {EVERY DAY!} educating me on them. I dared called one of them a unicorn recently, and she totally stopped me, and corrected me, “Mum, it’s a PEGASUS!” Alrighty then.

It was such a sweet party, and everyone had such a nice time. I know big parties are great, but I loved with this smaller get together that Lulu got to spend quality time with everyone… and I got to put together a big cheese and dip platter and hang with the parents too. Friendship time all round.

On to the details though, cos I know you want to know all about that. Here’s some sweet My Little Pony Party Ideas…

THE DRESS

When you start looking you’ll notice that there are so many great My Little Pony themed outfits around. This one is from the party section at Big W, but you can find non-costume dresses in both Big W and Best & Less, as well as t-shirts, leggings and PJs, and even Cotton On Kids sometimes has My Little Pony clothing too.

THE CAKE

This cake might possibly look complicated, but I’m going to promise you it isn’t. I used pre-made sponges from Woolworths {three of them}, made a batch of icing, then coloured it into three colours. I dolloped each of the colours around the cake, and used a ruler {a brand new one, of course} to evenly spread the icing around the cake. It made a cool tie-dye effect. Next, I coloured some melted white chocolate and drizzled it over the top and decorated with loads of goodies, including a light-up My Little Pony. The trick is to make sure the cake is placed in the fridge for half an hour or more before you drizzle the white chocolate on top, and be sure to colour the white chocolate using gel colours, {I got mine on eBay a year or so ago}, otherwise other food colours can seize the chocolate and it won’t work.

THE FUN & GAMES

A party isn’t a party without games, so of course we played a whole heap of fun games. I wanted to create games that were easy enough for younger kids to play, and to have plenty of prizes on hand so that no one missed out {which is kinda important when you’re 3 or 4, I think!}.

First up, we played Stick the Cutie Mark on the Pony. In case you don’t know, each My Little Pony has a has a unique symbol located on its flanks or haunches – they’re called “Cutie marks”. The pony featured in the poster is Pinkie Pie. Her signature mark is balloons. We blindfolded each kid, spun them slowly three times and then they had to stick the Cutie Mark onto the pony. We picked up this game from the party section at Big W.

We then played Pass the Parcel. Each layer had a My Little Pony blind bag inside {you can buy them from Woolworths} and the main prize was a little My Little Pony Play-Doh set. The kids loved this game. It was the first time Lulu had ever played it.

Lacey set up a little Cutie Mark face painting station where she painted little pictures on everyone’s faces. She was so keen to have a big girl job, and it made my heart sing at how awesome she was at it. Don’t you love the little pictures she drew so the kids could pick which Cutie Mark they wanted?

We also played Blow The Cloud which was such a fun game that the kids wanted to play over and over again. I marked a finish line with washi tape on the group, and then set everyone back a bit with a cotton ball and straw. They had to race to get their ‘cloud’ over the finish line first. The winner received a little prize.

We also had a little stamping activity table, where the kids could do some art and craft.

FOOD & DRINKS

I made the food quite simple for the party. I baked small cupcakes for everyone to take home with a little My Little Pony on top {these are from the My Little Pony blind bags you can get at Woolworths}. I did a big fruit platter, cheese sandwiches cut out into circle shapes, fairy bread, hot food like pies, and spinach and ricotta triangles.

I just serve water at parties for the kids because my girls pretty much only drink water, plus it’s easy to only offer one option. I got these teeny bottles from Woolworths, then wrapped them in pink card and placed a My Little Pony sticker on each one. It was for decoration but also so the kids could remember which water bottle was theirs.

I dipped little wafer biscuits into white chocolate and then into sprinkles, and served them in a My Little Pony tin.

I found these My Little Pony buckets at Big W in the party section and filled them with chips for the kids. They were a big hit.

THE GOODIE BAGS

At the end of the party, everyone went home with a goodie bag filled with My Little Pony themed goodies, as well as a bubble wand {seriously cheap at only 50c at Big W}.

The goodie bag contents were things I picked up at Big W, Woolworths, Best & Less and at the toy store. I gathered as I went around shopping. They were more than I’d usually put in a goodie bag, but because the party was small and we were hosting special friends I wanted to give them something special to go home with.

The kids all had such a beautiful time, and were talking about it for days afterwards… for me, I just loved seeing the special friendships Lulu and Lacey had forged up here, and myself too. Friendships are magic, and this little party showed me that, and filled my heart. I’m so glad we took the chance and made the move up here, otherwise these friendships may have never formed and blossomed.
