Melbourne Workshop

It’s hard to interpret the written word sometimes. Don’t worry, I’m not about to take you back to Year 11 English class, I wouldn’t do that to you. I’m not sure if it’s coming across how much these mama/child workshops I’ve been doing make my heart sing. I’m sure if I could get a camera inside my heart, there would be a small band playing music and someone just like Florence singing beautiful tunes. It makes me so happy, and from the reaction of the people attending… they like it to. {Oh gosh, I hope they weren’t pretending}.

Last Saturday I hot-footed it down to Melbourne. I flew from the Gold Coast, and I was getting on the plane I noticed that everyone around me was wearing coats and scarves, and even saw a beanie. I was wearing a dress. No coat. No scarf. A dress. I thought that either I was the fool, going in under-dressed, or that Melbourne was absolutely going to deliver on it’s promise for the perfect day.

For the record, it totally delivered. Every other time I’ve visited Melbourne the weather has been underwhelming but last Saturday made up for it, and a bit. It was beautiful.

Just like we have in the past, in Sydney and on the Gold Coast, we ran a workshop for kids and their parents, to share their passion of photography with each other. We picked The Stables at Como for the workshop. It’s a beautiful garden area, with a cafe inside. We hired a private space, and the cafe provided lunch. I noticed some people {very cool people} setting up picnics and enjoying the sunshine. It was a really beautiful, cool space.

Rachel taught the kids about rule of thirds, and we turned the grids on their cameras so they could head out and explore composition. It’s amazing how they just ‘get’ it. I’ll do a post on the camera that the kids use, because I’ve been getting comments/emails/messages about them – and it’ll be easier to just tell you about it in a blog post.

I have to tell you, there’s something about Melbourne people. As each guest arrived, there were dressed in the most amazing clothing, and the happiest people ever. I mean they have been at every lunch we’ve had, but I think with the weather… it just made for the most awesome love-bomb. It was so nice to be there. And I go so many beautiful gifts {so many that they wouldn’t fit in my suitcase to come home}. Charlotte taught herself on YouTube how to make these. So beautiful {I haven’t let my kids play with them yet, because I love them so hard}.

Cute or cute? CUTE.

Charlotte’s son was the youngest ever guest of our workshops {only 2} and he totally aced it. Such a cutie.

Thank you to Belinda, Row and Leesa for the gifts. They were so beautiful. And delicious.

We’re off to Adelaide next. I’ve never been before, so I’m pretty excited.

P.S. Michaela, who attended the workshop, also wrote a blog post about the day. You can read it here.

I’m an ambassador for Olympus. You can read more about our relationship here.
