I think I am turning into a cow.

I fall asleep standing up. Cows do that, don’t they?

I remember people saying, when I was back in school, that they’d go out to the farms (whilst drunk) and knock over sleeping cows. Who knows if it’s true. I’ve never seen a sleeping cow, lying or standing so can’t tell you either way. Back to the topic anyways.

This week has been a bit chaotic sleep wise. Lacey got a little cold and decided the only way she wanted to sleep was in my arms whilst I was standing up. I’d try and sneak a sit down in, and she’d wake and get very cranky.

Wednesday night I finally got her to go to sleep in bed with me at 3am and then she woke at 4:30am. Yay. One and a half hours sleep. Joy. Bliss. The only way she would sleep during that 1.5 hours was with me lying on my side breastfeeding her the whole time. Comfortable. Not.

Moo.

I took us both to the doctors on Thursday because my ear has been bothering me for about two weeks. Usually these things will pass but this time it was starting to really bother me. Lacey was all clear, but I have an ear infection. Ick.

Thursday night Lacey slept a little but better. She woke a lot. She did sleep lying down though. So that was… handy.

I find now that nights are such a blur. Hubby was on ‘duty’ for the first part of the night. We decided we would swap shifts at about 2am. At 11pm I woke (or did I?) and heard Lacey crying upstairs. I stumbled upstairs, told Hubby to go to bed and took over. I don’t even remember getting up there, or how I decided that I wanted to take over.

Or fail safe way of getting Lacey to sleep is in the bathroom/laundry next to the drier. Sorry environment… the drier really is getting a run each night. Our bills are massive too. We’re slowly going insane (and poor).

On Thursday night I was in the bathroom swaying with her in my arms, the hum of the drier playing like a lullaby… and I was falling asleep standing up. I’d have to shake my head out of it. I fall asleep sitting up. Lying down. On the toilet. Anywhere. I’m that exhausted.

Lacey’s little cold is almost gone now. She’s feeling better. Me? I now have the flu too. I can’t think of anything better than a heatwave, ear infection and the flu.

Oh maybe sleeping on the toilet as well. Throw that into the mix. ‘Cos that’ll make it all the more better. xx

  1. You might try a humidifier instead of the drier. I, myself, can’t sleep without white noise. My dad used to drive me around the block when I was a baby to put me to sleep. Now I sleep with a fan every night. That wouldn’t be good for a baby, but I’ve found a humidifier makes the same noise. Good luck.

  2. Most of the time it’s lying down, but sometimes its standing up. Funny animals!
Poor thing! I hope you finally get some rest this weekend!

  3. I used to need to sleep with a fan on too.

Would something with vibration or movement help? Oh, wait, you probably don’t want to get into the habbit of that one! Terrible things happen when kids get used to it and it breaks!

  4. oh sis. you poor thing. i hope tonight lacey sleeps 12 hours straight and that your ear ache goes over night. i wish i could breast feed, cos i would offer to stay up the night for you and feed her ;(

ps ten points for even being able to be funny. moo.

  5. I’m so sorry to hear (read) about it all. Hope little Lacey will be all ok very soon and sleep a lot so that you can recover too. Hope the weekend helps you to get over the worst part of your flu/ache/etc.
    Take it easy!

  6. Oh no, babies with colds are so miserable, the poor things! And in this heatwave too!

Get yourself a copy of the ‘Sounds for Silence’ CD- i think Track #4 is the dryer one. Then you can just play that on a little stereo in her room when she’s unsettled. Alex is 3 and still wants his radio static to go to sleep 🙂

    Get well

  7. Daria – The humdifier is a good idea. We have one. Last time I tried to use it I nearly burnt the house down! A fan is a good idea too.

Diana – Good to know I wasn’t imagining things!

Bash – Are you sure you haven’t been cow tipping? 😛

Sis – Thanks so much for the offer! Love ya. xx

Abacaxi – Thanks for your kind words. xx

Nisha – We have the SOS CD. I don’t have repeat on our CD player though… so when it changes songs/sounds it’s a bit scary. x
