Hello. My name is Chantelle and I have a black thumb. Ahem, I mean green thumb.
Those are words I never thought I’d mutter. For a few months now, I’ve been trying to improve the plant life balance in our home. I’m the sort of person who is always trying to improve our lives, whatever it takes. We eat well, we exercise regularly, we take care of our mental well-being, and our home is filled with love, but I was keen to up the green factor. I’ve been learning about how much a single plant can improve a home {improves the air quality by up to 25% and clears airborne toxins as well, but also improves wellbeing} so I’ve been inspired to change things up a little.
Months ago I added a few plants to our family, two fiddle leaf figs, a mother-in-laws tongue and a jade plant. After putting together the article on the most un-killable plants, I put together a list and headed to my local nursery with Lulu. We went shopping. I felt like I knew what I was doing, cos I kinda did.
My plan was that I wanted to spend around $200, and have plants of different sizes, particularly heights. Cos I’m a visual person I also wanted to have softer greenery and then sharper leaves too. It was such a special thing to do with Lulu. I let her pick a few plants on her own, and she helped choose which I should have too. Our trolley was loaded up and they came in well under budget.
We then chose some pots from Target, Kmart and one beautiful one from Pillowtalk too. I invited my mum over, my original green thumb inspiration, and we got potting together. And styling. The space went from this – empty, dull, and plain.
To this…
There are things I still want to change. Like, I’d love to redo that painting as I’ve never loved it. I’ll also see how the plants go with the light that current space gives them.
I have to say though, they bring me joy every day. It’s been 100% positive, from the special experience shopping for the plants with Lulu, to potting them and styling them with my mum, and then sharing the responsibility with the girls every week. I love having more green in the house. It feels good, and secretly I know it’s doing good too.
