A weekend of firsts

first-tooth

I’ve always known that when Lacey started losing her teeth that it was going to be a downhill slide into big-girlhood, and that it would be an emotional roller-coaster for me, her mama. A week ago she told me that her tooth was ‘wibbly’ and she’s told the same a few times before {only to be jumping the gun, because they weren’t wobbly at all}. But this time it was. Very wobbly. And then a week later, it came out.

I knew it was going to happen, because it was hanging on by just a thread on Saturday morning, so I warned her, “You know, it might fall into your mouth… and if it does, you can just grab it out before you swallow it.”

I caught her walking around the house with her shoulders hunched over, and her head hung low, her mouth agape. “What’s wrong?” I asked. I thought she might have been feeling sad for some reason, but instead she was trying to avoid the tooth falling out in her mouth, urging it to land out and on the floor instead. Funny girl.

The tooth fairy visited, via the tiny pink door in her bedroom. Her name is Trixie and she left a note written in ever-so-tiny writing and a $10 note tied up in sparkly ribbon {apparently she didn’t have anything smaller, perhaps the most ill-prepared tooth fairy there ever was}. Lacey woke in the middle of the night, came running into my bedroom with her money and note to share with us. We weren’t so thrilled after only just falling back to sleep after tending to Luella for 2 hours.

I muttered to Hubby, “Have kids, they said.”

He tried to finish my sentence but totally stuffed it up, “They said it would be lots of fun.”

cakeMy sweet niece, T’el, turned the ripe old age of 1. I was on cake duty again, and the above cake is what I created. Well, I can’t take credit for the elephant, balloon and number one… my friend Kathy made it and posted it down from Brisbane for me {she’s got Bay City Cakes if you’re in Brisbane and want a cake made – or she posts stuff out too}. I used this recipe for the cake. Here’s the sweet birthday girl.

And this sweet not-quite one year-old is finally back to her normal self after being under the weather for over two weeks. So glad to see her smiling again. I just need to get her sleeping again….

How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

  1. Ah, we are currently going through the beginning stages of all things teeth related – the dreaded teething!! Our little one has been teething for about four months now, so it’s about time some started cutting properly however I feel I was very unprepared for the pain and distress!

    That cake looks amazing!

  2. OMG £10. Does Trixie have a series of beautifully written notes for her next nine visits remind her she’s already been paid?

  3. My little girl lost her first tooth today! She was horrified at first but then realised all the good things about losing ones tooth! I’m just a tad worried that the tooth fairy may be broke as her big brother has lost 4 in the last fortnight. I l say lost… But he’s taken to pulling them out…
