I know it’s a big call to make when you’re only two days into your trip… but I think we peaked. This night, watching Wintjiri Wiru under the stars — was hands-down the most powerful and beautiful experience of our whole Uluru holiday.
It was generous. It was sacred. It was moving in a way I didn’t quite expect. And I know it will be one of those core memories our family carries forever.

What is Wintjiri Wiru?
Wintjiri Wiru means “beautiful view” in Pitjantjatjara. It’s an immersive storytelling experience that takes place at sunset, overlooking Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Through drone choreography, lasers, music and narration by Indigenous voices, the Mala story is shared with the utmost care and respect.
It’s a story that belongs to Anangu people — not mine to retell here — but I will say it was told in the most moving and unforgettable way. If you’ve ever wondered how technology and culture could come together beautifully, this is it.

Our experience
We arrived at the viewing platform in time for sunset, where we were wrapped in soft blankets and looked after so thoughtfully by the team. There was always a drink in hand, something delicious to nibble on, and a sense of calm in the air.
As the sun disappeared behind Uluru, the experience began.

First, a powerful narration filled the space — a voice that invited us into story and Country. Then, like magic, the sky lit up with drones forming shapes, animals and symbols in the night sky. Lasers, sound and hundreds of coordinated lights worked together to bring the story to life above us. I still don’t know how they did it — but it was breathtaking.
My favourite part? Looking around and seeing my family — snuggled up together, eyes wide, enthralled, soaking it all in. Pure magic.

Is it worth it?
Yes. A thousand times, yes. If you’re going to splurge on one paid experience at Uluru, let this be it.
It’s not just a show — it’s a moment. One where culture is shared with deep respect, and where families (like ours) can experience something special together. We talked about it for the rest of the trip and still are now.

Wintjiri Wiru was unlike anything we’ve ever done before. It’s a special kind of magic — the kind that grounds you, moves you, and stays with you long after you leave.
Whether you’re travelling with kids or not, make time for this one. Watch the sun set. Listen. Let yourself take it all in underneath the stars.
You won’t forget it.
As custodians of the land, Anangu hold the Mala story from Kaltukatjara to Uluru. To share their story, RAMUS designed and produced an artistic platform using drones, light and sound to create an immersive storytelling experience.
We travelled as guests of Explore Uluru.
