Where to stay in Uluru: Our family-friendly stay at Ayers Rock Resort

Uluru Accommodation

If you’re planning a trip to the Red Centre, you’re probably wondering: Where should we stay near Uluru? The answer, for most travellers (especially with kids), is Ayers Rock Resort — and after staying there ourselves, I can totally see why.

Just a short drive from the airport — and even better, a quick trip into Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park — this resort is the main hub for Uluru accommodation, with options for all budgets and travel styles.

Whether you’re camping under the stars or splurging on a luxe hotel room, everything is central, walkable, and incredibly convenient. Cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries, the IGA supermarket, and even a pub — it’s all right here.

Where we stayed: Emu Walk Apartments

For our family trip (a group of five), we stayed at Emu Walk Apartments — and it was the perfect home base for all our adventures.

We had a two-bedroom apartment with a sofa bed in the lounge for my mum, plus:

  • A full kitchen (great for easy meals and snacks)
  • A laundry (which always comes in handy mid-trip)
  • A bathroom with roomy shower (great after long walks)
  • A dining space and a sunny outdoor courtyard

It was clean, comfy, and felt just the right amount of spacious after big days out exploring.

Best of all? We could walk everywhere. The IGA supermarket was just down the path, and we became regulars at Gecko Café (their pizza and pasta were a hit with the kids). Our stay also included daily buffet breakfast at Mangata Restaurant, which was the best way to start each day with full bellies and hot coffee.
