Six years ago, almost 7 years, Lacey made me a mumma. From the moment she was born, she was more than I could have ever imagined. More lovely, and beautiful, but also more challenging and complex than I could have ever predicted.
For an introvert who likes her own company, and quiet, I really got thrown a curveball with Lacey. She makes noise every minute that she wakes. She never sits still. She asks a million questions, even when she knows the answers… just because she likes the sound of her voice. She likes constant attention, which results in her asking every 3 seconds, “Mum, can you look at me? Mum, watch this? Mum, listen to me sing the alphabet for the gazillionth time today, please?”
I watch her skip, and eat dinner, and write her name, and sit down, and jump, and walk, and put on socks.
She squeezes the life out of each day. She is on the go from the moment she wakes {well, it takes her about 33 minutes to properly wake up, and you don’t won’t to poke that bear before then!} but then it’s on. Life, Lacey is coming at ya.
On Sunday I grabbed my camera as I wanted to take some photos on the way to the supermarket, and Lacey came along with me. As I was taking some photos of some flowers, she asked, “Can you show me how to use that?”
So I did. I gave her a 1 minute lesson. I told her what ‘focus’ meant, and gave her the camera. Out of all my possessions it’s my favourite. Lulu broke it already once, and I was so upset and I was so hesitant to be handing it over, but I was more pleased that she was keen to explore photography, so I let her go.
She held onto that camera all day, until the battery went flat and she was made to bath and get ready for bed.
While she wasn’t the child I thought I’d have, I’m glad she’s mine. I’m glad that she stretches and challenges me, and makes me want to embrace life the way she does, exploring new things and discovering all the corners of life.
I think she’s here to teach me things. I loved seeing the world through her eyes.
These are so wonderful!! She is a clever clogs!! The animal and floral prints would be so gorgeous framed for her. Jx
I’ve printed some out for her, but I might frame theme. It’s pretty special. I’d love to have copies of my first-ever photos. 🙂
She’s going to be creative just like her Mum. They are clever little photos there
Thank you! xxx
How lovely to hear! I firmly believe our kids are here to teach us too. Shes clearly a talented photographer!
I think if we’re not learning and growing from them, it would be such a sad waste. Thanks for the nice compliments. I’ll tell Lacey. xx
This is just lovely. I feel the same way about my kiddo- he’s constantly surprising and challenging me and I’m grateful for the opportunity to get to know him and myself a little better through parenting him.
The pictures are fantastic and I love that you’ve printed some out for her already. What a lovely thing to have your first ever photos right there on the wall to enjoy!
I’m super impressed by Miss Lacey’s skills! I think framing them is a lovely idea too. Watch out Chantelle, Lacey is going to be quite the teacher I think! x
Chantelle that’s so beautiful! I love it when I find sneaky photo shoots on my phone 🙂 Reminds me of a fun kid lead photography project tiny & little and I did at the NGV last summer (2014) called Roll Around The Block – some of the kids photography that was entered was amazing… a whole new perspective.
This is so beautiful she’s really taking after you 🙂 When are you buying her her own camera??
It’s her birthday next month, so I just bought her one to give to her. I’m so excited!
