Housekeeping.

I thought today that I would do a little housekeeping around here. There are questions unanswered and it’s about time I got around to answering them.

Last week Red Deer asked me what magazines I read. Actually it was more polite than that. It was a sweet: May I ask what magazines you like to read?

Well…. perhaps asking me what magazines I don’t read might have been an easier question. I’m addicted.

Actually about 5 years ago I was a whole lot more addicted. Since then I’ve discovered blogs and I’ve had Lacey.

Now I’ll grab a magazine or two on Monday and by Sunday I’ve only got to the Editor’s Letter and no further. By then it’s old news, the fashion is so last week and the gossip… well it’s hardly classed as gossip anymore when it’s a week old. Is it?

My favourite magazine is Frankie. I love her. I’m about to open a whole bottle of crazy here, but I know you won’t judge me.

Frankie has beautiful, smooth, non-glossy pages filled with quirky reads, beautifully natural photos and articles you actually want to read from start to finish. Plus there is rarely an over publicised celebrity in sight.

And here is the extensive list of other magazines I like to read. Sigh. Madison, Real Living, Donna Hay, delicious, Grazia, Women’s Weekly, Notebook, Marie Claire, Wondertime, and all the other parenting magazines. Not to mention any magazine that catches my eye when I’m in the newsagent.

Sometimes as an incentive to go for a walk I’ll bribe myself that I can have a magazine at the end of it. It works. I usually make myself walk to the newsagent that is right at the top of a steep heel. I make myself work for it, don’t you worry.

Anyway I need to put a lid on this bottle of crazy. Thanks for not judging me. x

  1. Oh I love the idea of bribing myself… it works with the kids I look after, it will work on me too ;o) Chantelle – I have to say, I love your blog so much. You write so beautifully and you always put a little smile on my face x

  2. My cousin is in this weeks/last weeks (?) Take That magazine! She is 25 and her and hubby had triplet girls. Her mother had the exact same experience 20 something years earlier with her triplet brothers. They both carried two identical and a singleton, and the both delivered at the same gestation AND they were due on the same day, and born only 5 days earlier! Pretty amazing really, it’s a lovely story.

  3. I love magazines, but agree that the internet is a pretty good substitute. I never buy celebrity gossip magazines anymore because if I need to read trash, I can read up to date trash from Perez Hilton. I’m still an absolute sucker for shelter and food magazines though.

  4. Magazines are bad. I stopped buying about two years ago and haven’t looked back. I use to buy allot, it was an addiction, I still get the urge to buy occasionally but I don’t..I know my strengths.

Everybody has something they can’t live without 🙂

  5. I love magazines too, I had to stop buying them though when we went from a 2 income house to a 1 income. Mind you, I have enough magazines here to keep me occupied. I am lucky enough to have won a couple of subscriptions in the past year so that feeds the addiction.

Hmm… my favourite magazine would have to be an American one – EveryDay with Rachael Ray. I do like Real Living, Donna Hay and Notebook but don’t buy them anymore.

  6. Thanks for answering 😀

I keep on having mini panic attacks in the newsagency and can never decide on which magazine to buy. I am hopeless at buying anything for myself.

I’ll take a look at Frankie.

  7. I love frankie magazine for exactly the same reason as you.. those smooth pages really get me! I also love the photography and the articles about real things. I think my favourite section is 'every body has a story'.

I recently came across your blog after seeing it in the kidspot top 50 bloggers list, and am quickly making my way through all the archived posts. You are such a lovely write and have delightful stories and images on all your entries. Also, that little miss Lacey sure is a cutie!

After I finish reading all the old posts (and new!), I think I'm going to re-start my blog.. I've written about 2 posts since I started it, but you've really inspired me to continue.

I too struggle with my weight and have been asked to be a bridesmaid in my sisters wedding… eek! It's in October 2011, and there is no way on earth I am ready for it right now!

Anyway, sorry for rambling, and I'm sure I'll comment again soon!

    Jorja x

P.s, I also have an addiction to magazines and it doesn't stop with frankie… there's marie claire, cosmo, cleo, OK!, Take 5, Thats Life and Yen. Oh the shame…
