We’re Going To The Zoo.

L

ast weekend {when the weather was perfection, not like this weekend just past} we were invited to the zoo. We’re big fans of the zoo and have been zoo friends since Lacey was about 12 months old. Being a zoo friend means you pay an annual membership and then can visit the zoo as many times as you like. As many times as liked turned out to be a lot. We know some of the animals on a first name basis (Mary the Gibbon, I’m looking at you}. So we jumped at the chance to be special guests at Taronga Zoo.

Taronga Zoo has just launched a new App that has everything a kid/adult/anybody needs when visiting the zoo. A little more about that in a moment though.
We started the morning with a bit of breakfast with the birds. We met an owl and we also met a few hungry kookaburras who eagerly swooped down and stole a few bacon and egg rolls out of unsuspecting hands. I’m petrified of birds, so this had my heart a flutter, and not in a good way. I couldn’t get rid of my breakfast fast enough.
Having just joined the big bad world of iPhones the week before, Hubby and I were pretty excited to explore the new App. To be honest… I haven’t quite got the hang of my iPhone… if someone sends me a text I moan and groan about how difficult it is to reply… I need smaller fingers. I usually end up writing things back like, “Cool” or “Ok”. Long conversations via text are a thing of the past, until I get used to it.
So Hubby explored the Zoo App. You can explore the zoo, learn about animals… and if you take a photo of the listed animals you can unlock special information. Sweeet. Hubby was happily snapping away at Lions, Tigers and Bears… oh my!

We were the only people in the Zoo. It wasn’t yet opened and we were treated like VIPs. We even got to hand feed the giraffes. They have such long tongues and pretty eyelashes… and such sweet personalities. I have a new favourite animal at the zoo. We also saw the chimps have breakfast {they like oranges}. We then moved onto pat snakes and look at lizards. I was definitely more scared of the birds than the snake. Go figure.

There were lots of lovely bloggers at the zoo too. I got to meet Lori from Random Rambling of a SAHM, Christie from Childhood101… and I got to spend time again with Zoey from GoodGoog {who now works for Kidspot with me, have I told you that yet?}. Lacey loved her little friends, especially Immy {daughter of Christie}. She never wanted to let go of her little hand… and I know if they lived close enough they’d be the best of friends. Lacey would make sure of it!

If you’re in Sydney {or ever visiting} you can get the App for free from the iTunes store. You can see a little more about it here too.

  1. Oh the zoo never disappoints. Hand feeding giraffes, wow, my middle daughter would LOVE that!! All round fun & entertainment for your husband too, nothing better. Love Posie

  2. Ohhh I am soo jealous! I am telling my hubby (as I type) that this new App means we NEED to take the girls to the Zoo. I have been dying to go since Mr Shuffles arrived… I love the photos, so cute.

  3. That is so cool! I wish we had a proper zoo here on the coast. There is Australia Zoo but its a 3 hour drive away and its not that big. I have never been to Taronga but next time we are Sydney I will definately be making a trip there.

  4. Can you believe I STILL don't have an iPhone? Pfft I'm such a luddite (or rather am too cheap to change from my Samsung Windows phone!) but I want to get into the Apps!!

The day looks wonderful, I'm sad I missed it – we love the zoo too! xx
