Totes Amaze! Make your own watermelon tote

Totes Amaze! Make your own watermelon tote

Over the summer holidays Lacey and I had so much fun creating these watermelon totes. Lacey also made wrapping paper and decorated a paper bag. The options are endless. All you really need is a potato, some paints, something to paint and your imagination.

Totes Amaze! Make your own watermelon toteYOU NEED // A tote {I grabbed mine from Etsy}, fabric paints {preferably pink, green and black}, a paintbrush, a potato and a knife.

STEP ONE // Peel your potato and cut into quarters. You’ll want to end up with a half moon shape, so choose a potato that will best make that shape {think fat potato instead of flat potato!}.

STEP THREE // Once the pink paint has dried, you can paint the green of the watermelon. I did this with a flat paintbrush, in one thick stripe.

STEP FOUR // Turn your paintbrush upside down, dip it in the block and then spot your watermelon to make the seeds. And you’re done.

Let it completely dry before using.

  1. Oh flashback to my childhood here! SO easy and fun, it is amazing what you can create with some simple everyday things. Nothing fancy required!. I hope next you will have a pasta jewellery making DIY, now that was fun:) x A

  2. I LOVE this project!! My Mum is an early childhood teacher and is a huge fan of using potatoes. She used to make wrapping paper with her pre-school kids years ago. This is such a gorgeous idea and it’s got the creative juices flowing. I bet Lacey loves using her tote!! Totes amaze indeed! Jx

  3. Oh I love this! Will be perfect for Miss 5’s next birthday party. She’s got her heart set on having a ‘craft’ party and has already started planning the whole thing! This will be a fun activity for the girls to do and take home after. Xx

  4. Oh this is so pretty!! I do remember using Okra/Lady Finger cut horizontally and dried leaves as stamps for fabric painting. I am surely going to give this a try!
