The little girl who knew what she wanted

lulu---wall

The afternoons have been beautiful since summer finished. This one afternoon we were out the front, playing before night fell. The sky was filled with pinks, oranges, blue and purples as the sun set.

“That is the most beautiful sun set ever,” I said to no one in particular.

Moments later Lulu waddled up to me and said, “HOLNE HOLNE HOLNE.”

Not quite sure what she was asking, I tried to hold her hand thinking that might have been what she wanted.

No. She screamed in protest.

“Do you want me to hold you?” I asked.

No. It wasn’t that either.

She was so frustrated that she was on the border of having a tantrum. There were tears and much frustration.

Equally frustrated, I told her that I didn’t know what she wanted, which made her even more irritated. She walked a few steps up the road and readied herself to unleash tantrum of the year.

A thought came to me, and I suddenly realised… “I know! You want my phone.”

So I ran inside and grabbed my phone. I didn’t really know what she wanted the phone for, but I’ll do anything to avoid an epic tantrum… especially at that time of night.

Immediately after handing the phone, she celebrated with a “Yay!” and then turned to the sunset and pretended to take a photo.

She’s my daughter, that girl. Photo-taker and tantrum-thrower, just like me.

  1. That’s sooooo stinkin’ cute! They are such copycats! My Daisy {similar age to Lulu} is constantly holding the iPhone in our new puppie’s face trying to get the “money shot”. Poor pug. Its awesome when you catch them being you, and the you they are being isn’t the grumpy version 🙂

  2. Mine can’t believe we used to send film in canisters to be developed and had to wait weeks at a time without having already seen the images. Love that she has the talent in her bones already. Mel xx

  3. What a beautiful story. My 5yr old daughter is very strong-willed too and knows what she wants. And those times we clash, I have to step back and realise she is a little too much like me.

  4. … wonderful story Chantelle….. little ones are cleverer than we sometimes think… It’s great that she knows you take photos and wants to be ‘Just Like Mum’ …. clever thinking there Lulu….
    Hugs… Barb xxx

  5. Ha! What a little doll! I find it so fascinating when they start to mimic everything you do. It’s like watching a very small, drunk version of yourself. Sometimes it’s not flattering…
