Are you suffering from weekenditis?

Brought to you by TFE Hotels.RUNAWAY

When’s the last time you had a really, really, REALLY good weekend? You know the ones where you’ve actually done a great mix of good things; a bit of feet-up-and-relaxing, a touch of consuming good food {and perhaps a little bit of wine}, and a dash of good times {dancing, playing, fun stuff}.

I’m not going to point my finger, look down at you and patronise you for not making the most of your weekends, because I’m putting my hand up and saying I need to make more of my weekends too.

TFE Hotels conducted some research and found that only 10% of us Aussies actually feel excited on the weekend. Remember in your early, early twenties when Friday evening would roll around and you’d put on your glad rags and have a good time all weekend long? Now we’re checking emails on the weekend, getting bogged down in the overflowing laundry pile, spending a lot of time on the sidelines of sporting games, stressing about bills and forgetting to have fun. Some of us are even calling in sick on Mondays because, heck, sometimes it’s just too hard. Forget Mondayitis, it’s WEEKENDITIS.

What’s the cure?

less

It’s less surfing the web, and more surfing in the ocean.

more
It’s more of jumping in the car and getting away, and less cleaning and stressing and feeling guilty.

this1

It’s more escaping the everyday and checking into somewhere new. It’s clearing your head from the to-do lists. It’s slipping between luxury something-crazy-count sheets and sleeping like you’ve never slept before. It’s eating a big breakfast and not having to clean up a hundred fry pans and plates and knives and forks. It’s exploring a brand new place. It’s the excitement of packing a bag, catching a plane or jumping in the car, and arriving at somewhere new, and unexplored to you. It’s letting the sun kiss your skin. It’s having no where to be, no one to answer to and not even caring what the time is. It’s the teeny tiny shampoo and conditioners that get me more ridiculously excited than they probably should. It’s eating room service in bed while watching that movie that you can never seem to make time for at home. It’s treating yourself to a little, much-deserved time away to recharge your batteries and remember what it’s like to look after yourself and treat yourself to something good.

Do you need me to diagnose you? Because I think we’re all coming down with a case of the old weekenditis. And, you know what, I kinda like the cure… darling!

  1. I worked a 10 hour shift at work and visited family. I love weekends because my hubby is home to share the load and spend quality time with our boys 🙂 My weekend DID NOT involve laundry, that is why today I have 2 massive baskets of folding and a full dirty clothes basket 🙁 Looking forward to entering when the link wakes up- it must have a big weekend 😉

  2. Our weekend was pretty awesome! We went to Perth (500km round trip) to watch the International Ice Hockey – USA v Canada. Something totally different for us. Three kids went to the movies and I got a couple of hours peaceful window shopping! One more week of holidays for us which involves all the mundane chores – laundry, book work, cooking………

  3. We actually escaped to the county with some old friends for the weekend and it was divine! Blue skies, and even a bit of warmth in the air during the middle of winter! It was perfect x

  4. I work wekkends….. during the day its – washing, cooking, cleaning and looking after the boys. Then at night I go to my paid job – whats this weekend you speak of

  5. I started painting the Little Mister’s first ‘big boy’ room. Most of the weekend was spent PREPARING to do it. Oh and we did go out for dinner with the family, too so I guess it wasn’t so bad 🙂 I’m just usually happy if I do at least ONE fun thing that involves food or people I care about…sometimes in that order haha

  6. I worked. I’m a photographer, so I was all over the place shooting, studying my diploma and looking after 3 munchkins….Oh, I also cleaned my kitchen, culled both girls’ wardrobes and decluttered my desk. Woo!

  7. I had a real hoot this weekend! (um, not) : ) Spent a lot of time at school preparing lessons for going back to school and then washing/cooking and getting my own three ready for “back to school!” But its all about finding the little moments of “holiday” in everyday I figure. My weekend is often on Monday when I’m not at work. Thanks, Kim

  8. I actually did run away for one day of the past weekend, to play!! 3 friends and myself ran to Bowral, NSW and did a mixed media class with the fabulous Jan Hall. You might have to be a scrapbooker to know who a Jen is, but, suffice to say, we played with colour mists, gelatos, inks, paintbrushes and lots of papers…..oh, the excitement!

  9. I did laundry (it’s not a real weekend if there’s no laundry involved) ran the Sydney Harbour 10k, had a serendipitous meeting with 2 blog readers and then consumed all the calories I’d run off at high coffee. And then spent the rest of the day on a sugar high.
