A deliciously addictive (hence the name ‘crack’) recipe that is so easy to make it should be illegal 👀, Salada Christmas Crack is an Aussie family fave, ideal for the silly season.
There’s a perk to visiting our house at this time of year. One of Lacey’s friend stayed the night, and woke up to a batch of this Salada Christmas Crack sitting on the bench. “What is that?” she asked, eyes wide open with glee.
“Christmas Crack! Help yourself!” I replied.
Let’s just say she ended up grabbing a little bag and filling it with this sweet treat, so she could enjoy it at home. It’s that good.
It’s also super easy to make, and Saladas are such a great salty base. You can also use pretzels, just scatter them over the tin base and pour the caramel over. Easy, and delicious.
How to make Salada Christmas Crack
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 180ºC / 160ºC for fan forced. Line a slice tray (20x30cm) with baking paper. Place the Saladas into the prepared tray (mine was a little small, so I cut off some edges).
STEP TWO: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and butter. Stir until the butter melts, and then bring to the boil. Cook, stirring, until it thickens (this should take around 30 seconds).
STEP THREE: Pour the sugar/butter mixture over the prepared Saladas, and pop into the oven to bake for 5 minutes (or until bubbling). Remove from the oven.
STEP FOUR: Pour the melted dark chocolate over the Saladas, and smooth over using the back of a spoon. Top with sprinkles (or your decoration of choice) and place in the fridge to set.
STEP FIVE: Once set, crack the slice by chopping roughly with a sharp knife. You’ll want to brreak into bite size pieces, because it’s very sweet!
