Making time for me

Brought to you by Dermaveen.spa-winWhen is the last time you took time out for you?

I want to share something with you, and it was a big moment for me. I find my 30s has been a lot about these moments of learning, which I like. The wrinkles that come with aging I could skip, but these life lessons I do like.

Late last year I found a life/business coach and did a few sessions with her. I know that sounds obnoxious, but it really was one of the best things I’ve done for me. She told me that I needed to make time for myself. With a busy work life, a working from home juggle, a life online, two beautiful children that need me and a husband that would quite like me to talk to him more often, I wasn’t happy with what I was hearing. MAKE TIME FOR ME? When? How? It was just adding another layer of stress onto my life that I didn’t need.

But I let the notion marinate a while, and I thought about it, and ended up frustrated. The next week I went back to her and asked questions, and pleaded for tools to make it happen. In my head time-out looked grand and elaborate. It was visiting a day spa, or taking myself out on a lunch date… but the reality was that it didn’t need to be that big. I just needed to make small rituals in my life that allow me to steal moments for myself. It didn’t have to be grand or difficult.

Dermaveen and I have teamed up to help you steal more moments for you, because it’s actually important. It’s like they say on the plane, you have to put your oxygen mask on first because how is everyone else going to survive if you haven’t taken care of you first? I’ll share in a moment how you can grab some quality time for you on Dermaveen, but first I wanted to share little rituals of self care that I love.

In some of our session my coach shared what she recommends for making time for yourself. She talked about book-ending the day with self-care. This means doing something for you at the start and end of the day. For me that’s meditating in the morning, and treating myself with a basic beauty routine. I’m not huge on make-up {I do it when I need} but I love skin care. I am prone to eczema, so I have to be careful with what I use, and the level of stress I have in my life {stress is my trigger, as are some foods}. Taking care of my skin is a little ritual that I do each day. It’s a small thing, but it’s a good way to kick-off the day.

I also do a quick 30 minute tidy of the house, and then light a candle. It’s stuff I can do with kids around, but it has definitely changed in helping me feel less chaotic {because chaos was very prevalent in my life}.

And then the night ritual; I read an affirmation card, write in my journal, and read a little of a book and put on hand cream and face cream. And… snooze.

They’re all small achievable things, right? So you’re setting yourself up for success, which is what we all want.

Dermaveen are products that I’ve been using for a few years now, ever since my eczema really flared up {they’re good for all skin types though, just lovingly gentle on your skin} and I knew I needed to change up my products. There’s always a big pump pack of body wash in my shower, and a lotion in my bathroom for afterwards. The facial cleanser is awesome for winter, because it’s quite creamy and nourishing.

Dermaveen is shouting one lucky person and their friend a super indulgent spa treatment valued at over $1000. Think massages, facials, treatments, quiet time. Oh my! Can you even imagine? There’s also 10 runner-up prizes, which are beautiful hampers filled with Dermaveen products valued at $164 each.

To be in the running to win an indulgent spa treatment, simply head over to Instagram, or upload your photo here, and share a photo of what you like to do for your ‘me time’. Tag it with #momentsforme and @fatmumslim so I can check out your photos.

Alternatively you can leave a comment below with your photo, if you’d rather share here. For all the terms and conditions, just pop over and have a read here.

  1. What a very beautiful post! I love it. My new ‘me time’ think is crochet except I’ve become rather obsessed by it and sometimes I need to take ‘me time’ from crocheting. Mr Smags and I have started clocking off at 11pm and watching this FBI files show we found. We rarely watch TV properly so it’s such a treat! We also went to see TWO movies in a row last weekend. That was awesome.

  2. Does drinking bubbly with my metal peacock count? Because that is kind of fun… I sit outside my office door, bubbly in hand and enjoy the sun.

  3. This must sound strange but since I had the girls, my me time consists of three things 1.i make sure I always get dressed (it’s was a real eye opener to be so crazy busy with 3 girls under three years old that I had to make a concerted effort to dress), 2. Always get into a made bed, even if I make it 5 seconds before I go to sleep and 3. I need a little bit of pretty in the house whether it be a candle in our bathroom or some flowers in the house or pretty writing paper near the phone. Whatever! So my photo is what’s left of my birthday flowers, white flowers are my fave!

  4. We think self love is SO SO SO important. Me time = self love! We meditate, read and make sure we always switch OFF for part of our day! e + c

  5. This is my “me time”. With working full time, applying for more work/life balance jobs & everyday duties this is the one night a week that I get one & half hours to completely switch off and watch this lovely trash!! With of course a glass of white wine & if I’m feeling a little more energetic a face mask. Oh how my “me time” has changed haha.

  6. I try very hard to have some me time – it’s not easy but I’m much nicer when I do. Reading at night is my thing, The Book Thief is my weapon of choice right now. Have a fabulous weekend gorgeous girl! x

  7. I’m a knitter. Knitting can be almost meditative – it’s hard to think of other things while counting rows and stitches. Even when I’m really busy or tired I try and squeeze in a little knitting each day. My philosophy is a day without knitting is a day wasted.

  8. My ‘me time’ is my coffee breaks. I love coming up with new variations (like my ‘Me Time’ Mocha Sprinkle pictured) and love all smooth, strong types of coffee! The type that would put any normal person in a head spin or make them feel so exhilarated they thought they had just come off a roller coaster! Well my coffee experience doesn’t take me on a ride, I take it on my roller coaster ride of life and there is no room for DECAF passengers!!

Like a roller coaster I start of slow in the morning, regular coffee intake helps me rise up and over the highs and climb out of the lows of the day very quickly. You could say it was my
engine fuel!!! This is mostly how I function during the week but weekends are a different story!

I guess you could say I use coffee as a stimulant during the week but on weekends it is for relaxing and enjoying what life has to offer. Rather like a ferris wheel I guess. On weekends I like to sit at the top and watch the world buzz around at the bottom. It all looks so insignificant from up here!

So as you can see I have a serious coffee addiction, I need it, I want it, I love it!! It’s my stimulant and relaxant and yet I sleep like a baby at night. That part has always puzzled me!! Perhaps it because my ‘me time’ is so effective!

  9. My latest “Me Time” fad………colouring ! Have put the knitting needles down and can be absorbed for hours. Caters for my creative side as well………urge everyone to try it !

  10. It might seem like an obvious choice but I love to sit on my balcony & watch the sunset with a glass of wine (yes there’s a chardy hiding in that pic!). It doesn’t happen every day but that 15 mins of bliss when the heavens align & I can sit quietly & watch the colours dance across the sky makes my heart sing a little 🙂

  11. I couldn’t really share a picture of me enjoying my me time… but I thought this picture sure summed it up well. I can’t have a nice long hot relaxing bath every day so my other me time is to stop, relax and enjoy my pre-bedtime snuggles with Master 2. it recharges my batteries and reminds me, especially on ‘those’ days, that being a mum is worth it.

  12. #momentsforme and @fatmumslim
In my me moments I love to bake, this is a family tree cake I made for a family reunion.

  13. What a fabulous giveaway. Thank you for hosting it! (Me time for me is reading, writing and music time. But I’ll post some pics on Instagram.)

  14. #momentsforme #fatmumslim I was a professional photographer before having my son, and like to take the camera when we go for a walk around the neighbourhood. My pocket camera is always handy to take pictures of my son too.

  15. Me time some days is just staring out the train window in a daze – feeling still and quiet and not talking or really thinking.. letting my eyes be slightly hypnotised but the passing view outside the window.. almost like meditation!
