Ladies who lunch & win your very own Olympus OM-D E-M10

Brought to you by Olympus.IMG_1507

I have the best readers, did you know that? Yeah you reading this, you’re awesome. I just wanted to tell you that.

Last week I woke early and caught a plane, with little Luella, to Sydney for the day. My tummy was doing butterfly-flips all morning, Thanks to the awesome guys at Olympus I was going to meet a handful of my readers for the first time, to talk passion, photography and to eat delicious food. I’d excitedly made gifts for everyone; each parcel had a little Kikki-K photo a day album and some of my favourite chocolate, decorated with a sweet little camera that made noises and had a working flash.

As each guest arrived the room filled with noise and it was like we’d known each other forever. Well, we kinda have, sharing our lives online. We sat, we ate, we laughed, and we took lots of photos. Each person got their own little Olympus OM-D E-M10 to play with. I love it when you’re with company where it’s completely normal {and expected of you} to take photos of your food.

The event was hosted by Olympus, and three bloggers; myself, Lorraine from Not Quite Nigella and Corrie from Retro Mummy. Each blogger did a short workshop for their table on photography. Lorraine spoke about food styling {I would have loved to sit in on that one}, Corrie talked about photographing her craft projects {I wish I was crafty!} and I spoke about photographing the everyday and shared a few little tricks that I use too. But mainly we sat around talking about cameras, photos, blogging, food and other girly-type stuff.

See my ridiculously happy face up there? It was ridiculously good time. I’m still smiling. How goofy! Thank you to everyone that came to the city for lunch, and special thanks to Trish for FLYING all the way up from Melbourne to join us.

There was a particular someone {or something} that stole the show though, and it was this guy…

It’s the Olympus OM-D E-M10. I’m not gonna lie, I was a Canon girl until we met. But I don’t think I could ever go back. I’ve been playing around with the OM-D for about 6 weeks now, and I don’t read manuals… instead I like to learn by being hands on so over these past few weeks I’ve fallen more and more in love. And yep, it’s true love. Photography is a passion of mine, and I do it with love {here’s a photo I took with the OM-D this week, if you’re interested}. Let me tell you why I love this guy:

♥ He’s ridiculously good looking.
He’s got a nice strong {metal} body, and a bit of a retro look. If he was a real guy I’m sure he’d be the kind to open doors and buy flowers.
♥ He’s easy-going. He’s so easy to use, BUT if you like fancy and complicated you can do that too. You can either take a photo with the normal photo-taking button, or press the screen at the back to choose your focal point and snap the photo.
♥ He’s arty and cultural. You know how you take a photo, then you go and edit on your computer? Not anymore. You can either choose to edit it… wait for it… IN THE CAMERA. You can add filters, crop, and even make COLLAGES. I kid you not. It’s fun. You can even download the Olympus App and take photos on your camera by using your phone {it will blow your mind!}.
♥ He likes to travel. Well, I mean the photos. You can connect it to wi-fi and it will send photos straight to your device. I love that it sends the photos straight to my iCloud so I can blog easily, or put them on Instagram.
♥ He’s super social. If you own a DSLR, the big bulky ones, when’s the last time you took it with your somewhere? Never, right? This baby fits right in my handbag. I managed to fit it in my small handbag along with all the nappies, food, wipes, snacks, purse, phone, etc etc that I needed for a day in the city. It’s the smallest DSLR on the market, yet it has some of the best features that you would ever find on those big bulky ones.

Yes, I’ll always love my iPhone, but now I’m getting good quality photos with this camera and I get to nurture my creative side. It’s a win-win. Long live the camera love affair.

I’m thinking of eloping in Paris with it. Don’t tell Hubby.

Now for the REALLY good news. I’ve got one to giveaway. One super-dooper lucky reader is going to be the owner of the OM-D E-M10 and lens {14-42 EZ} which is valued at $999. You can see all the details of the camera here.

To be in the running to win the camera, just head over to Instagram and get creative. Show off your photography skills. Simply take a photo of part of your daily life {every day moments} and share it with the hashtag #FMSlovesphotos and you could win. Simple. It could be breakfast with the kids, what you do on your lunch break, shopping for shoes, buying fresh fruit, anything goes. The every day moments are my favourite to capture and I want to see yours.

  1. I don’t even have an instagram, but for this I will totally make one! I LOVE taking photos but could never keep up with photo a day 😀 I love stuff like this. Yay!!

  2. OMG OMG OMG…two of my three favourite bloggers at the same lunch…that would have been AWESOME! I love your blog and also NQN….i will have to go and check out Retro Mummy now!

  3. I am so sad that this is open to Australian residents only but wanted to take the time to tell you that you are so fun to follow, you are very talented, and I encourage you to keep broadening your horizons because I think you are an international superstar!!

  4. Well I’m in the USA so I guess I can’t enter. But I still enjoy following you and reading your blog.

  5. Why do you only do your comps on Instagram? Some of us don’t have the time to do FMS PAD and Instagram, so only do FMS PAD, so miss out on this great and other great comps. Could you please extend to your blog at least??? Thanks Glynnis x

    • You could download Instagram and do PAD on that forum instead of FB. It’s super easy to use and so many many many photos to give you inspiration! If you have a smart phone give it a go!

    • its a photo competition…just like photo a day…instagram is a photo app.. it means that a huge amount of people can see the photos and join in. It would have taken less time to upload a photo and hashtag on instagram than it would be to comment on this post.

    • Incorrect. The past three competitions before this were all ‘comment to win’ entries, so I think your complaint is unfair. I do try to cater to everyone.

Others who don’t have Instagram have simply asked, “Is there another way to enter?” and I’ve said, “Sure, just upload your photos to the comments on the post. That’ll be fine.”

I’ll amend the T&C/boring bits to reflect this so no one misses out.

  6. What an amazing competition, thank you!! The lunch sounds like it was amazing. Not to sound too stalkerish (totally a word!) but I’m looking forward to meeting you at the Creative Business women’s High Tea later this month x

  7. Oh my golly gosh’n! I have just discovered photography with the new addition to the family, a chubbster of fifteen months named Lilli and I have crashed my phone an embarrassing number of times after overloading on pictures as I don’t own any camera at all aside from said phone! And being so new to pictures I can sure do everyday, ordinary and possibly even “why on earth would you take a picture of that” quite well 😉 Look out instagram!

  8. Mmmm……the day sounds like it was AMAZING! I SO wish……..
The camera looks brilliant but I’m kinda wishing now my ‘everyday’ wasn’t quite so un inspiring!

  9. Would have loved to be there myself. Sound like an awesome day:D.

    • Photos 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 were taken with the Olympus. I love this camera so hard that I feel like a walking advertisement… but you know when you love something so much you feel like it’s a sin not to share? Yeah, that. It’s so good.

  10. Say someone lived an Ocean away…and paid for shipping, insurance…
Or, is the contest really, REALLY open to the lovely citizens ON Austrailia?

  11. I took this photo at the playground of my other half & 11 month old. This says everything to me. They are my world. 🙂 #fmslovesphotos

  12. I took this photo at the playground on my Iphone, It captures everything for me, they are my world. I’ve been dying to get a really good camera but haven’t had funds to! Would love to win this. 🙂 #fmslovesphotos

  15. I love this! I too was a Canon girl until I had a play around with the OM-DE-M10, amazing piece of equipment 🙂

  16. Oh yes please. My poor point and shoot camera has died and I am desperate for a fancy camera but can’t afford one.
Here is a photo I love of my pretty kitchen canisters. I love to look at them when I walk into the room. They make me smile.
    Cheers,
