Everyday Everybody: Michelle.

Gee! You’re Brave is probably one of the phrases that might spring to mind when I tell you about my friend Michelle.

Michelle and I had our babies in the same month. Her little girl is the beautifully cute Aurelia. Whilst I struggle to get my little one out of the house, Michelle is travelling the world with her little one (and her Hubby). She blogs about it here, at the aptly named Gee, You’re Brave.

They’re having the times of their lives. You can just tell by the smile all over Aurelia’s face. Read more about Michelle here, and then pop over to her blog and follow her journey there.

How are you on aeroplanes? I love to fly – always have- and am more anxious travelling in a car than on board a plane. These days I get to board first flying with Aurelia and sit in the seats where the bassinet is – they have heaps of leg room. I always watch the safety video which hubby finds amusing and absolutely won’t get on the plane without eye drops and lip balm – my eye and lips dry out hideously.

Have you ever been stood up? Nope never.

Can you do any accents? No sadly – however I have noticed just travelling around how your speech alters to that of those around you – I had a few vowels coming out the other day with a mild British accent and hubby and I were like ‘what was that!!”. My sister in law does the BEST Austin Powers accent I have ever heard- hilarious.

Which member of your family do you try to avoid? The saying you can choose your friends but not your family is true. I would have to say in 100% honesty my MIL (mother-in-law). Our relationship has come a long way but each interaction involves a LOT of hard work. We are completely different people with different life philosophies and being around her is just emotionally hard work – so if I had to nominate someone it would be her.

Which country would you most like to visit? Spain and we are off there on the 28th April. We are going to Barcelona for a couple of days and then we are all doing a 800km, 5 week trek across northern Spain walking the Camino. It will be a brilliant way to see rural Spain and if that doesn’t shed the post baby pounds – nothing will !! When we finish the trek we are heading off to Valencia to see a motorbike GP race. We took Spanish lessons in preparation which I was hopeless about – but I am still ridiculously excited!!!

What do you spend most of your money on? Aurelia – When we were saving to travel plus having a mortgage I learnt to say No to things for myself but saying No to something cute and in a teeny tiny size for Raya proved a lot more difficult. I am finding lots of gorgeous things and just buying them in a larger size and then posting them home to Oz because they don’t fit into my pack. Other than that – I am spending a lot of my money on tickets – riding the tube each day here in London, and in Singapore and Malaysia – lots lots of tickets, tickets on the Eurostar – my inbox is full of confirmations for train travel and airline tickets.

Do you break wind in front of people you know? Never – I’m a lady LOL. I would in front of my sister and my husband but otherwise no. And when you do start doing this in front of your hubby you know the honeymoon period is over.

When did you last drink champagne? At a wonderful high tea that my best friend organised for me for my 30th birthday. Such a gorgeous afternoon but now that I am a mummy and breastfeed I am a complete cadbury when it comes to drinking – a real glass and a half girl. Mind you I have real weakness for bubbles.

Do you think you are easy to live with? No not really. I am someone who likes my own space and can be particular about the level of noise I like. I am not tidy at all – I still throw my clothes on the floor but I love things to be clean. I don’t cook and I like the house to look a certain way. I really don’t think I am houseshare material. I have rented with others before and they liked living with me but not sure if I would like to live with me. Hubby is very easy to live with.

Who’s the most intelligent person you know? Both of my grandfathers (now deceased) were extremely intelligent but I prescribe to the theory of different intelligences – emotional intelligence, intellectual intelligence. I admired both of them greatly. In terms of academics I have worked at one of my lecturers Rod Beattie was phenomenal, intelligent and inspirational – a real Dead Poets Society kind of teacher.

Thanks for your time Chelle, which I’m sure is pretty darn precious. You had me laughing along reading your interview. xx

  1. Ha, that is a funny blog name. I heard that catch phrase a lot when I took my two month old daughter back to Ukraine. But, you gotta do what you gotta do, and seriously, a tantrum is just as hard to handle at home as it is in a foreign country! A tantrum in a foreign country just has better scenery, and you can't understand the language, so who knows if people are bitching about your parenting abilities…
