WHAT IS THE GIFT EXCHANGE
It’s like penpals but with… presents!
The FMS Gift Exchange kicked off back in 2011. It’s a feel-good activity where people get signed up to be matched with another person to send and receive a gift. So cute, right?
We use a magical program called Elfster, that matches you randomly with another person. All you have to decide whether you want to send to someone overseas, or someone in the same country as you. The fee to participate is AUD$5, and 100% of that goes to the charity Rafiki Mwema. This fee is simply to help raise funds, and to also help keep people accountable.
On October 30th the sign-ups will close, and within 3 days you’ll be assigned your person. This is the person that you’re buying a gift for. You’ll be sent their name and address (but they won’t know who you are). You’ll be able to find out more about their likes and dislikes in our private Facebook group, and you can also ask them questions anonymously in Elfster.
You’ll shop a gift for your partner. The fee is AUD$30, so you’ll shop to buy them something nice, then wrap it and post it to them. All gifts must be wrapped.
Gifts must be sent by November 20th. After that date you can start stalking your postman or postwoman to get your gift!
HOW TO JOIN THE GIFT EXCHANGE
Step 1: Donate
Sign up to gift exchange by donating $5 to Rafiki Mwema for each group you join. You’ll need to select the group you’d like to join.
Are you over 18?
ADULT’S GIFT EXCHANGES
Worldwide: This is for anyone, no matter where you live. You will be open to sending a gift to anywhere in the world. Be mindful of postage costs, I do recommend sending items that are on the lighter side, as postage can otherwise be up to $100.
Australia: This is for people living in Australia ONLY. You will give a gift to someone living in Australia and receive a gift from someone Down Under.
USA: This is for people living in the United States ONLY. You will give live in the USA and give to someone else living in the USA.
Europe: This is for people living in Europe ONLY. You will give a gift to someone living in Europe and receive a gift from someone in Europe.
Canada: This is for people living in Canada ONLY. You will give a gift to someone living in Canada and receive a gift from someone in Canada.
New Zealand: This is for people living in New Zealand ONLY. You will give a gift to someone living in New Zealand and receive a gift from someone New Zealand.
Kid’s Gift Exchange:
If you have kids, and you want them to join, sign them up to the Kids Gift Exchange. This is for anyone 18 years and under.
Step 2: Check your inbox
You will receive a link in your email immediately after your donation from Rafiki Mwema (this email will NOT be from Fat Mum Slim). In this email you will find everything you need. You will need to click the link in the email, and RSVP in Elfster to take part. Failure to do this step will mean you will miss out.
Step 3: Join the Facebook Group
You’ll find a link to our Facebook group in the email, you’ll want to jump over and join. The group remains closed for a short while until everyone is signed up to the Gift Exchange.
