Yo Mama.

We need to talk about this outfit.
I found this when I was reading Dooce this morning. It was flashing about in one of her ads.
Sure, sure it does look like the most comfortable thing out… but what about the pee factor. How frustrating to have to take it down every 30 minutes when we need to use the toilet. And we know it’s that often when you’re in the later stages.
Skin tight jumpsuits are flattering to only 7.3% of the population.
What do you think? American Apparel has plenty of other great maternity gear. This one definitely made me chuckle though.

  1. Ewww…that not only looks impractical…it also looks gross. You see every lump and bump on her…and not just the obvious one that she wants you to see!!

  2. I just got done looking at the other outfits on the link you left…It says those clothes are for expecting Moms, but I didn’t think any of those ladies were expecting!! LOL…I guess I just assume that most pregnant ladies aren’t nearly so skinny!!! Cute clothes though!!

  3. When I was about a million weeks pregnant (and essentially a spherical whale on two little leg stumps waddling around) I wore a long cotton lycra tank and leggings combo which looked like that. In other words, bad. I had gone beyond the point of basic human dignity and would leave the house in that outfit with a poncho and ugg boots over the top.

I don’t think it should seriously be promoted as a fashion item, but I can imagine a time when I would just wear the damn thing because I couldn’t wear anything else.

  4. Dear chantelle. The pee factor? What about the visial pollution factor? After all, that’s the only way to describe, for example, ME wearing something like that. It would look horrid on me anytime let alone in third trimester!

I totally agree with your 7.3 per cent stat.

  5. LOL I saw that ad the other day too .. I just think, pregnant or not, we should dress to flatter our bodies. I don’t think I could EVER get away with wearing that. AA are really getting into their maternity wear push lately!

  6. No, no, no!!! You’d never catch me wearing that in a million years!! I like my lycra when pregnant, but there IS a flattering way to wear stretch fabrics – and that sure aint it!

  7. I am so glad that everyone agrees. For a moment when I was posting it, I thought maybe it was a cool thing to wear and I was just the odd one out!

It’s a visual disaster. Someone call the fashion police ASAP!

  8. That is the funniest thing I have seen all day. The best thing about it is the position she is in – seriously if you are nine month preggers like she must be…that would have to be the most uncomfortable, awkward and potentially life threatening position to be in and she is kicking back with her sunnies on like she is totally relaxed! Hilarious.

  9. Fantastic read, I just passed this onto a friend who was doing a little analysis on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I located it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
