How to print your Instagram photos at home

I am far too excited about these two things. You probably know that ANYTHING photography excites me, and these are no exception.

I have to be honest and say that I haven’t properly printed photos since Lacey was a baby. Which is HORRIBLE. I feel like a very, very bad mum. But I will get on top of it eventually. One day. Tomorrow, or the next day, or the next year. ONE DAY.

But this is a solution. You can print photos you’ve taken on your phone in a matter of clicks. It’s so easy. Today I’m going to share two printers that I have at home, that I can print using free Apps on my phone, and be done in minutes.

Canon Selphy

The Canon Selphy prints your photos onto photography paper, which is beautiful quality. I’m not sure if you can get Matte paper, but I’ve used the gloss paper and am pretty happy with the finish.

Just download the Canon Easy-PhotoPrint App {on Apple and GooglePlay}, connect your phone to your printer using the WiFi functionality, select your photo from your camera roll and print it.

I bought my printer from eBay, but I think you can pick them up from stores as well.

FujiFilm Instax Printer SP-1

I’m a Polaroid lover from way back, and was desperately upset when they retired for a while {well some formats are very hard to come by still}, so as soon as I saw this was even a thing… I HAD to have it.

In the FujiFilm Instax camera, the individual films cos about $2 each {unless you shop smart}… so if you take a mediocre photo you’re pretty much throwing money away. I love that with this I can control which photos are being printed, and make sure that I’m getting value for money.

Just download the Instax Share App from Apple or Google Play, connect the printer to your phone using the WiFi functionality, choose your photo and print.

I bought my printer from eBay as well. Shop around and try and get the best value printer/film combination.

When’s the last time you printed photos? Do you think you’d use one of these if you had it?

  1. I can’t remember the last time I printed photos either. We still haven’t printed the photos from our wedding or made an album… and that was 8 years ago! Shocking! I’m totally checking these printers out! Such a neat idea.

  2. I love printing photos and try to get to Kmart or Harvey Norman or even Officeworks to print them whenever I remember that I have a shitload of them on my camera roll. But I have been looking at getting a photo printer for home. Verdict is out on which one just yet.

  3. How did you get your photos centred with the selphy like that? I have trouble printing square pics – the usually come out to big and chopped off. Do you need to go change the ratio in another program or is there someway to do it on the selphy or the app?

    • You can crop and centre using the Apps, but I always take my photos in the camera that comes with my iPhone, so they’re always rectangle before I edit them. For square format I love Origrami or PicturePostie. You could always print the square photos and then cute them into squares?

  4. I set up a FujiFilm Instax camera at our wedding with some props I bought from Etsy and my MIL made a lovely frame with lace and tiny pegs for people to hang up their photos. So many hilarious snaps from that night… except they’re all still sitting in a bag in the bottom of a cupboard some 2 years later… oops! Must get to that. One day. Maybe next weekend…

  5. Is the Instax just for the minis? My daughter has a full frame Instax but there only seems to be a one for minis?

  6. Instax printer is on my list…I’m in love Chantelle! I haven’t printed photos for years so really need to aim to get some done. Thanks for these tips, having a printer set up is going to motivate me.

  7. I want the fujifilm Instax one so bad! I wanted the polaroid cameras when they first came out but I quickly realised they wouldnt work because my 1yr old isn’t about to pose properly for a photo so there’s no way I’d get the perfect photo the first time. I love that this one lets you choose an an already edited photo and still print it on the polaroid style.

  8. Hey Chantelle, I have a Canon Pixma and a Kodak printer. They both print great, but Canon gets the heads up for me. I’m itching to get my hands on an Instax Share for travelling. This year I will. Love the blog love following and taking part in Photo a Day. Thanks for sharing. Love Helijeri. Xx

  9. I printed off a whole bunch of photos a few weeks ago and created a photo collage on my wall. I desperately need to go through and print heaps and heaps. I have two full albums for Punky but haven’t printed any for Zee. Must remedy that when Tafe finishes. That Fujifilm printer looks very cool, I might have to investigate them.

    • It will depend on the printer, but usually you’ll switch on the printer. Then you’d go to your phone > settings and then in the network options you’d pick your printer.

They connect via a WiFi functionality, which is just like the internet except instead of connecting you to online, it’s connecting your printer to your phone. 🙂

  10. I ALWAYS print my photos. I see too many people lose their memories because their computer crashes or hard drive breaks.
This generation is the most photographed with the ever popular selfie but I’m afraid they will have nothing to remember their lives by in 30-40 years.

  11. Hi, these printers sound awesome! Do you have a preference which one you like better? Was going to buy my daughter the instax camera but don’t like that it instantly prints the pic, just Incase its not a good one! And do you know how much it is per print roughly? Thanks

    • As a kid, I would have liked the Instax – because it’s fun and more of a novelty. As an adult, I prefer the printing of the Canon. It’s beautiful quality and frame-able. I think the prints are much cheaper per print too.

      I hope that helps.
