Get your FREE Penny the Pirate Book & Kit

Just recently we were sent the Penny the Pirate kit from OPSM {which you can grab for free from any OPSM store in Australia, or alternatively try the App}, so after putting little Luella to bed for a nap one afternoon, Lacey and I sat down to get our pirate on.

First a little about the book and kit; Penny the Pirate was created to help parents identify whether their children could have issues with their eyesight {nothing complicated, just the common issues}. Of course, nothing replaces a proper eye-check, but this is a fun, interactive way to start the process, and let you know if it might be worth making an appointment for further testing. Penny the Pirate is aimed at children aged 3-10 years of age, because it’s such a dynamic age with lots of growth and learning, it’s important to discover whether kids are having problems with their eyesight.

Inside the kit you’ll find a book, which has a story about Penny the Pirate, but also it has three double pages where you can screen your child’s vision. There’s also an envelope filled with props for taking your child through the testing; an eye patch, a spyglass, 3D glasses and a sheet to note down the results from the test.

The instructions are really thorough, so you just follow them step-by-step for each child you have. If your child is at the age that they can read, then it’s easy… just ask them what they see and they can communicate that with you. If your child is a little younger, they’ve thought that through too. Just follow the instructions and take your little one through the process that suits their ability.

I took Lacey through all the steps, marked down the results and then popped over to see what it all meant. You just punch in all the results and then it lets you know what it means for you, and how often you should be taking your child for an eyesight test {every 2 years for those wondering}.

And the good thing is, once you’re finished with the test… you’ve got another cool book to add to your child’s library {for free, I might add!}.

Order a kit for your family by popping into your closest OPSM store {find out here}, by downloading the App {do that here} or by submitting your details to have one sent to you {do that here, or click the image below}.
