February Photo A Day 2014 List: Feel the love baby!

Hey you.

Today I’m sharing the new February Photo A Day list with you, and introducing you to another artist who has designed the list.

This month the lovely Lindsay of Pen & Paint put on her clever clogs and gave the February list a bit of a loved up look. If you haven’t met Lindsay before, let me tell you a bit about her. She’s clever {that we know} and she creates beautiful artworks. Do you use Pinterest? Perhaps you’ve seen this one doing the rounds. You can find Lindsay over on her blog, or you can check out her shop on Etsy.

As we all know {or I hope you do!} February is the shortest month of the year, so if you’re a commitment-phobe or just can’t imagine taking a photo for a whole 31 days… well try 28. You can do it.

Check out the beautiful new list…

February Photo A Day 2014 #FMSphotoaday

I hope you’ll play along. If you’re new to this thing, everything you need to know to play along is below…

HOW TO PLAY PHOTO A DAY

Playing photo-a-day couldn’t be easier. It really couldn’t. Here’s how to play:
Grab your camera or phone or photo-taking-device.
Look at the monthly list to find the prompt for the day. {The number corresponds to the date of the month}.
Take a photo using the prompt as inspiration. So for February the prompt for day 1 is ‘you’. So take a photo of you. Take your reflection, your shadow, part of your body {just not the rudie bits please!}, an old photo of you, or another arty way of representing you.
Now you’ve taken a picture, it’s time to share it. This is the fun part. You can share to whichever social media platform you like, for me I like Facebook and Instagram best, oh and Twitter too. Make sure you add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday to your caption so people can find you, and others know what you’re doing.

If you’re sharing on Facebook, you might like to join our Facebook group. It’s a big, lovable community of photo-taking-people. Click here to find it.
Now you’ve shared, check out other people’s photos. You can check out the #FMSphotoaday hashtag on Instagram or Twitter to find them all. OR look at the Facebook group. It’s nice to comment and get to know other photo-takers too. We’re a friendly bunch.

WHERE TO PLAY

I’ve touched on this above, but there are loads of places for you to upload your photo-a-day photos. Here’s a bit more details:

Instagram: Just upload your photo, and add a caption and the hashtag #FMSphotoaday and then share.
Facebook: There are a few options here. You can simply share on your own personal page, among your own friends. Or you can upload to my page’s wall, or to the FMS Photo A Day Facebook group. You can join it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FMSphotoaday/ Now that Facebook has hashtags, simply add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday when you share your photos and you’ll be able to see which of your friends are playing along too. It’s cool!
Blog: If you have a blog, you could share each day or do a wrap up of all the photos at the end of the month.
Tumblr: Add your daily photos to your Tumblr feed.
Flickr: You can get their app and share your photos there, or upload on their web version. We also have a photo a day group here.
Twitter: You can share on Twitter by uploading the photo and sharing the hashtag #FMSphotoaday.

HOW TO REMEMBER THE PROMPTS EASILY

I know it can be hard for people to remember to do photo-a-day each day, particularly for those just starting out. It takes 21 days to form a habit, so stick at it. Until then we have have these tips:
Come back here each day and click the button on the right-hand side to check out the list.
Right-click on the list above and save it to your desktop. Or if you’re on your phone you could take a screenshot and save it as your wallpaper. {To screenshot click the power button and home button at the same time}.
The lovely Doug has created prompts for us that we can download straight into our calendar, so we won’t forget. Just click on the below to get them in your phone. {If they don’t work, try copying the link and pasting it into your browser}.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE PROMPTS

The prompts really are up to your own interpretation. Don’t feel like you have to follow any rules. Do as you please. Some people like to know what I’m thinking when I create the prompt, so below is just a suggestion:

1. YOU: 2014 is the year of the selfie, so take one. Or get creative and share a photo of part of you, your shadow, a reflection in a shop window, a photo of a photo…
2. FAVOURITE: Take a photo of anything that you consider to be your favourite {i.e. person, toy, book, food…}
3. SOMETHING ORANGE: Find something orange and take a photo of it.
4. CHILDHOOD: What do you remember about childhood? Was it eating ice creams at the beach? A particular toy? Laughter? Play? Swings? Books? Take a photo and share it.
5: SQUARE: As you go about your day look for squares, take a photo!
6: C IS FOR…: Find something that starts with the letter C.
7: UTENSIL: Go through that messy utensil drawer and share one tool.
8: WATER: It could be a lake, a beach, the bath,or water in a glass. Share your water.
9: DETAILS: Today you could find something with a lot of details in it, an intricate painting, eyelashes on a baby… find something and share the detail.
10: I AM…: What are you? Who are you? Share it.
11. MISTAKE: It could be something you wrote, a glass you broke accidentally or another mistake.
12. OUT + ABOUT: Take a photo as you get out and about today.
13. PERFECT: Can you photograph perfection?
14. HEART: Happy Valentine’s Day. Take a photo of a heart.
15. MY DRINK OF CHOICE: What do you love to drink? A hot coffee in the morning, a wine at night? Share it.
16. CREATE: Do you like to make things? Or perhaps you could take a photo of something else being made? Or something already made.
17. VEGETABLE: Eat your greens! And share a photo.
18. MAGIC: This is a hard one, so put on your thinking cap. How can you share magic? Is it something real {like the morning light feels a big magic} or a bit of a trick.
19. FEET: Personally I think feet are ugly but people begged me to use it as a prompt. Go crazy! I won’t look.
20. PEACE: Take a photo of peace! You could create the peace sign with your hands, or share a place where you feel at peace.
21. FUNNY: What’s funny? Find something and share it.
22. AN ACT OF KINDNESS: Do something nice and take a photo of it.
23. THIS IS WHERE I RELAX: Where do you like to relax? Share a photo.
24. HALF: Take a photo of half of something.
25. CUT: You could cut the stem off a rose and share a photo, or cut something else and share it. Or perhaps this is the day you decide to get a snazzy new hair cut.
26. LIGHT: This is the photographic prompt. I’ll create a lesson and share it with you soon.
27: MY VIEW TODAY: Take a photo of what you can see today.
28. REFLECTION: Take a photo of a reflection.

Happy photo-taking. x

  1. Just wondering, it’s probably been answered before but, if playing on Instagram does your profile have to be public? I’ve enjoyed playing for January but I think it might just be playing for myself, not that that matter I guess.

  2. I’m glad to finally be part of the “community” ! I’ve printed several photo-a-day pages but never completed one… but I’m highly motivated so this one is the good one ! Happy February ! Cheers from a Frenchie 😉

  3. Dear Chantelle,

We are two Spanish professors (@amartinbosque in Barcelona, Spain, and I in the US) who love doing your challenges and we thought we could apply the same idea to our Spanish classes. Thus, we have created a challenge for February, all with Spanish simple words. I explain it in my blog post here: http://pilarmunday.com/instagramele-challenge/ , and it also has the words we came up with. We just wanted to thank you for the wonderful idea and let you know that we have “copied” it. We hope it is OK with you. Thanks!
