Where To Print Your Photos Online In Australia : The 2018 Review

Hello! A few years back I wrote a post on the best places to get your photos printed in Australia, and boy did you guys love it. It was shared a gazillion times, and was a really useful blog post. You guys wanted to know where to print your photos! Over the past year I’ve had lots of emails and messages asking for an updated version, so here I am. I’m bringing you the 2018 review.

Here’s what you should know; I have no {none, zero} relationships with these brands, I paid for all the printing myself, I did them all online because it’s how I do most things, and I am not an expert in printing but I am fussy, which usually makes for a good reviewer.

In my mind there are photos that you get printed for your albums. I want those to be cheap and cheerful, but still ‘good enough’ quality. Usually those are done in bulk {because if you’re like me you print once a year or so!}. Then there are those that I want to be beautiful quality that I can display in frames, those I’m happy to pay a little more for {not much, just a little}.

Lastly, I printed an array of photos. There were some from my camera, some from my phone, and then for a true comparison I did some stock photos that I’ve purchased as well. My own photos were without filters so I could compare the true colours.

So without further ado, here we go guys… let the review begin.

FITZGERALD IMAGING | $1.10 per print | $16.50 postage
Fitzgerald Imaging a new company that I haven’t tried before, and I liked what they had to deliver. The matte finish was the nicest of the lot {I prefer matte}, and I found the colours to be really beautiful. On the bottom left you can see a dark photo of Lulu, that needs lightening… and it came out the darkest of all the brands, but the rest I’m really happy with. The black and white is beautiful and clean, I love it. The only downfall is that I found the price to be expensive, and the postage too, but worth it if you’re getting them printed for displaying.

NUSHOTS | 70c per print | $6 postage
NuShots was the company that I loved the most in my last review. They’re an amazing company, but this time I found the colours to be a little muted {like they’d had a subtle vintage filter run over them – they hadn’t but that’s probably the best way to explain it} and they’ve really increased their prices too {from 19c to 70c}.

SNAPFISH | 15c per print | $2.95 postage
Snapfish is one of the brands that I go to for bulk printing, because they often have great deals where if you print so many photos you get a whole bunch free. These photos that I got printed were really grainy. I’ve liked Snapfish in the past, but for this print I wasn’t very impressed, sadly.

HARVEY NORMAN | 10c per print | $3.95 postage
Harvey Norman is the cheapest place to print your photos, especially when we compare postage. That black and white photo of my niece is just not right. I think the colours were slightly off {muted or dull}, but for the price I’d happily print in bulk and have them put into albums to store my memories.

OFFICEWORKS | 10c per print | $25.95 postage
I’ll never understand why Officeworks has a fixed price for postage no matter what you order. Order one notebook, pay the same price that you would if you brought a printer. I just don’t get it. I know they want us to go in store, but for some people it’s just not viable {our closest store is 30 minutes away, and I often don’t want to go there for one thing}. So that rant on postage aside, I have to say I really LOVE the quality of their photos. Ten cents per print is a great price. I just want them to have a variable postage cost dependent on weight and size of your purchase. Also, they took the longest to arrive of all the services. Please Officeworks?

BIG W | 15c per print | $3.95 postage
Big W has similar printing to Harvey Norman {from memory I think they use the same system} so my thoughts are the same on the colouring and printing {just the black and white is not working for me}.

CAMERA HOUSE | 19c per print | $9.95 postage
Oh yay, Camera House, I love what they did with my photos! I have to think that they colour corrected that photo of Lulu. It’s lighter than any of the printing services, and I’m really impressed with the colours of all the prints I had done. While it’s not the cheapest service, it’s not far from it… and I’m impressed with the reliability of their printing.

PHOTOBOX | 19c per print | $4.95 postage
Photobox is another company that I haven’t tried before. I quite like the colours. The black and white isn’t my favourite, also not the worst, but I still feel like the skin tones on the colour prints are quite good.

PICTURE POSTIE | 15c per print | $5.95 postage
Picture Postie is another great all-rounder. I’m really happy with the price and the quality. The black and white isn’t perfect, but overall I’m pretty happy with the consistency with all the photos. Photos are ordered through the Picture Postie App, so great if you’re uploading from your phone.

RGB DIGITAL | 35c per print | $14.00 postage
RGB Digital does such beautiful printing, and I just love how passionate they are about getting it right. The paper is such great quality, and they have only slightly elevated prices for the quality you get. The photo of Lulu is still a little dark, but everything else is quite good.

The verdict? As far as the cheapest service, I like Officeworks printing, but dislike their crazy postage costs. So if you live close enough and are happy to go in and pick them up, go with them. But the winner of overall consistency, fair price and good quality, I can’t go past Camera House. They get a gold star!

  1. Awesome list! So helpful thank you! Would love to hear your recommendations for photo books too. Cheers!

  2. Fantastic. Thanks for the review.
May be that can be my easter monday job. Will try the camera house.

  3. I have been wanting to get some photo’s printed for frames, so thanks for the review! Rather than buying individual prints for my photo albums, I print a photo year book. I can fit a whole lot of photos into not a lot of space. I used to use Snapfish but their quality is terrible these days. I have used Momento lately and am really happy with the quality vs price. Also they tend to have coupons around at various times, so I wait till I find one to place my order. I wrote a review a few years ago of them.

  4. It looks like Camera House also had the least amount of your little bebe’s head chopped off in the cropping process.
Thanks for the updated review 🙂

  5. Nushots has changed hands recently, and that’s probably why the quality (and pricing) has changed.

  6. Is Officeworks just your location? It’s $5.95 postage for me, for a box of A4 paper and two crates …. or is $25.95 a typo?
