What October Means To Me.

What, for you, is the essence of October?

October, for me, signals that Summer is on it’s way, which also means that the end of the year is near. Christmas decorations start appearing in stores {they appeared a fortnight ago actually}, and the fun season will be here before I know it. It’s the end of the football season {which also sadly means that cricket will be on our TV screen before too long, ick} and everyone comes out of the wood work with passionate support for their team. I love that passion that people have.

For me though, it’s really about our Wedding Anniversary. It means I reflect on our special day, and plan a special dinner for my Husband and I. This year I might even watch our wedding video which I haven’t watched since 2005.

When was the most memorable October you’ve ever had?
Definitely October 2005, the year we got married. The buzz of the wedding being so close, the actual wedding day and then the honeymoon. It was such a special time, and I loved every moment.

What will you cook in October?
Lots, and lots, and lots of salads. Salads are perfect in this sort of weather. I love searching for recipes and then combining my favourite ingredients together for the perfect salad.

What is your greatest talent?
Being able to maintain patience in the most stressful of situations. Most of the time.

Describe yourself in three words.
Content. Optimistic. Loved.

When are you happiest?
When I’m achieving things. When I’m with my two loves, Hubby and Lacey. When I’m laughing.

When are you saddest?
When I let my mind wander and think about things that make me sad.

The best thing your parents taught you?
My Mum taught me how to love and be loved. She also taught me about respect. My Mum taught me a whole lot, actually. Thank you Ma.

  1. October means entertaining and catching up with friends, gardening, daylight savings (yeah!). Also it's pink ribbon month so I'll be organising some form or morning tea/lunch 🙂

  2. I love this post. That wedding photo is beautiful. That smile radiates love and joy.

October means the colours of spring, the promise of summer, the winding down of another year.

It's the month of my birthday, and often a time of reflection.

  3. I just love your wedding photos, your day was classic and timeless xox

October is also the month of our wedding anniversary, 3 years this year.

It also means the anniversary of our house renos being finalised. I tend to look around our house and remember what wasn't completed at this stage etc.

Also am LOVING this warm weather. Summer is almost here!

  4. That's so weird to me to hear you talk about October meaning Summer is on it's way. It just turned Fall here and it is starting to cool down and head towards Winter. Christmas is a time for cold weather and snow. Ooh…Halloween is coming soon. Trick or treating with my kiddos. I love fall. It means Chili cook offs and chicken stew. All the lovely things that go along with this time of year for me. The leaves are falling and it is just a wonderful sense of peace. I love this time of year!!

  5. October means my beautiful eldest daughter's birthday. It was also the month I met my husband, so I always have a great feeling in October, it's one of my favourite months.

  6. I used to love October! The weather warms up so you can pack up those bulky winter clothes, it's grandfinal season, and there is a long weekend (in NSW anyway).
But it changed 3 years ago when my Dad died. It's actually the 3 year anniversary today and it happened on the Sunday of the long weekend. I see everyone else get really excited for the long weekend and make plans for the NRL grand final day, and I just want to crawl in a deep dark hole and wish the time away.
Sorry, I didn't mean to bring anyone else down. Just getting that off my chest and wishing I could love October as much as everyone else does (and the way I used to).

  7. October always reminds me of my cousin that passed away of breast cancer 2 years ago tomorrow. She was beautiful. We're getting together over the weekend to raise some money for breast cancer research so women don't necessarily have to endure what she did.

But October means … sniff, sniff, Summer is coming. And work is going to die down in a few months (yahoo!) and my garden is going to start producing some veges soon. A lovely time of year.

PS: Would love some salad recepies, if you get the chance. x NJ

  8. October to me means ..spring in Sydney.. which is the best season ever invented! It is the flowers, festivals, the flea markets, the Saturday brunch.. It is also my (dearest) brother's birthday, who is turning 23 this month!
October last year was the month I started my current job, a beginning of a new journey, and a new life after uni.. and I'm loving it!

And to comment on your post.. You are right, the best thing your parents can ever teach you is to love and be loved, and to respect others.. It's more valuable than money or anything else..
