Lovely Nothingness.

How was your weekend?

Mine was filled with lovely nothingness. Don’t you love those weekends? We didn’t do anything extravagant. The weekly shopping. A Skype session with Sis. Hanging out and playing. That’s perfect for me.

And I didn’t feel guilty for not really doing anything either, because the weather outside on Saturday was whispering to me: Stay inside my dear, we don’t want you out here.

It rained. It was windy. There was a chill in the air. It was tracksuit weather. Definitely inside weather (and attire).

On Saturday my brother and his beautiful girlfriend arrived home from Thailand. It was my brother’s first trip overseas.

My brother is the funniest person I know. I’ve told you before, but I don’t think you could really understand until you met him. And then you probably wouldn’t think so anyway. He’s not the sort of person who tells jokes or performs tricks. It’s just the way he says things and the comments he makes. We’re always laughing when we’re around him.

When any of us travel we always send a text to let everyone know we’ve arrived safely. When my brother arrived in Thailand two weeks ago he sent a text to my Ma: Funny as here. Tell all.

So Ma told us all. She forwarded the message on.

Except she didn’t write anything else. We all thought it was from her. Thanks Ma. Funny thing is no one questioned it. We all just thought she was sending weird arse messages… again.

So Saturday when my brother and his girlfriend were due in. Ma, Lacey and I decided that they needed one of those big, helium balloons to celebrate their arrival. My brother likes motorbikes so we got this ridiculously huge motorbike balloon and waited at the arrivals gate for them.

Lacey entertained all the people awaiting their loved ones. This teeny tiny bubba holding onto this huge balloon walking around the terminal. It was hilarious.

I tried to take a photo with my phone, but the balloon was so big I need a wide shot. Each time I would take a few steps back Lacey would follow. So I have no photo.

When my brother arrived he didn’t even see us. The huge balloon had no effect in the crowd of faces. When we finally called out to them and drew attention to the balloon, they laughed (and seemed slightly embarrassed).

I now have a huge (ugly) motorbike balloon vacating about half of my living room. Unfortunately those balloons seem to have the longest life. Don’t they?

Sunday the weather was beautiful. Still a little windy, but sunny and clear. Much deserved after such a wet week. I’m hoping the sun will show his face at least a little bit this week. I love the rain but the sun is so good for the soul.

What was your high {best thing that happened} on the weekend? What was your low {worst thing}?

  1. That is hilarious! My husband has that sense of humour too. He literally has me in tears from laughter, every day! So I get it.

Yes… those balloons can stay up for months! My mum loves to give balloons (secretly I’d rather flowers) and she gave us some of the foil ones when Callum was born. Sorry!

  2. Sounds like a lovely weekend! I have funny visuals of Lacey with the balloon and being able to track her wherabouts from adult eye level!

High: Making Honey Jumbles with the kids, they had a great time!t
Low: Being on solo parenting duty Friday night and kids not going to sleep until 9.30,9.45 and 11.45pm.

  3. I love the airport story!

High- my good friends 40th birthday and being able to take my precious boy with me to celebrate out late!

Low- now it’s Monday and it’s all over and back to routine!

hope Lacey has fun with the balloon today!

  4. Love the balloon story! My brother is getting home in a month after being on a world trip for the last 8 mths. I have already planned a similar airport greeting with a balloon! Mine was just going to be a “welcome home” creation, but6 something more embarrasing is a great idea!
Weekend high: Shopping with my 16mth old and hubby for some great bargains on Sat- new handbag for only $49! PLUS drinks with the girls sat night!
Low: Sunday feeling very worse for wear and still having to get up at 5am for daughter after a big night out!

  5. hehe. the airport would have been a cracker.

my boyfriend is constantly making silly comments. most of which crack me up. i can be so angry and annoyed then he’ll say or do something and il be in stitches.

As Ned Kelly and Ben Cousin’s tat says “such is life”…

x Enjoy the balloon! I have a little boy here that would LOVE it!

  7. hmm that made no sense

should read: HIGH: making the cutest little skirt that I have made to date!!

Ohhh I need a new brain! This one is sleep deprived!

  8. I love those relaxing weekends! So nice just to catch up on bits and pieces.

High – having my oldest friend visit for the weekend with her boyfriend.

Low – having to cram all the ‘house work’ stuff into Sunday night because we were having too much fun for the rest of the weekend!

  9. I love your rain on window picture – I actually found myself googling rainy day photos last week and couldn’t get any good ones (that will teach me for doing pointless activities in the midst of family chaos!) My weekend highlight was listening to the Supremes in the beautiful sunshine while my low point was listening to three giggly 10yr olds still loud and laughing at 1.30am and up loud and laughing again at 4.30am. Sigh.

  10. Sounds like a fabulous weekend! I had a lovely anniversary dinner with the hubs and scored black patent cut out sandals for $24.00. Woo hoo!
