I only play lotto a few times a year, but I’m always convinced that I’m going to win. I don’t know why. But I love spending time dreaming about what I’ll buy, who I’ll share it with and how I’ll react when the newsagent tells me I’m a winner {that’s shocked, for those wondering}.
I bought a ticket for a big lotto last week, and unknowingly Hubby bought one too. I thought that we were definitely going to win.
So Sunday morning I took myself off to the newsagent and I confidently handed him our tickets. I waited for the ‘beep’ with a smile on my face. There wasn’t a beep and eventually the guy behind the counter delivered the sad news, “You’re not a winner.”
I was devastated. “But I thought I was going to really win,” I whined pathetically with tears in my eyes.
I walked outside to Hubby who was watching Lacey on the $2 merry-go-round. “We didn’t win,” I sighed.
“What?!?” Hubby gasped, jokingly.
And that was it. Off we went back to our normal, not-lotto-winning lives.
I am exactly the same as you. My winning ticket is going to get checked today. And I am the winner. Of course.
And I will send an email out to all my friends and fam, asking them to trust me with their bank account details. And I will deposit enough cash in each so they can pay their mortgages out.

I regularly buy lottery tickets and always think “this time … this ticket … will be the one that wins”
Alas, we're still mortgaged to the eyeballs.
Sometimes when they read out the numbers on television I pretend I have the exact numbers as they are called out just to imagine what it would be like to win.
“Yes .. yes … yes … YES … YES …. YEEEEESSSSS … we won … we woooooooooon!!”
ha ha, we must have all been dreaming, I've got a post about my lotto dreams in my drafts waiting to go, courtesy of last weeks lotto.
LOL. I am convinced I am going to win the Boystown Lottery one day. To the point where I only buy tickets in the lotteries that are for Sydney houses – to make it easier when I win. I know. Pathetic.
How funny, I am the same. I play Lotto only when it's a huge jackpot and am honestly and genuinely shocked when I don't win….I don't understand?! My hubby thinks it's very funny. We are yet to win a cent.
My favourite daydream is working out how to spend the money, how much to give my family and friends, which designer shops I'll visit first (after I pay for the personal trainer and chef to get me into shape of course!) and what our new house will look like. Love it.
OH MY GOD! I am exactly the same. I play a few times a year (the big ones) and I also am so convinced I will win. I so understand where you are coming from… xx
I just got back from the shops. No win. Can you believe it? I didn't win?! There must be some kind of mistake? It's my turn, surely?!
I buy a ticket every week and have never won anything over $40! I always tell myself if I win I'll fly first class around the world đŸ™‚
I have never played, but my boyfriend buys tickets any time there are super large winnings. He tells me exactly what we'll do with the money when he wins. Isn't it nice that he calls it “our” money? Even if it is imaginary at that point. đŸ™‚
He says that will both quit our jobs, we'll buy our dream house, have my dream wedding, help our families out and I get to go on a shopping spree. I hope we do win one of these days!
My husbie actually banned me from buying Lotto tickets because he couldn't handle my tragic disappointment every time we lost. I was always SO convinced that I was somehow connected to the Lotto balls and could magically pick the right numbers. No matter how many times I didn't win, I still thought that connection existed. In fact, I reckon if I chose some numbers right now they would be THE winning number this week.
Um… 8, 5, 23, 41, 44, 11.
See, why else would I have just PLUCKED those particular numbers out of thin air like that? It must be true! It must!

Ha ha – I ALWAYS think I'm the winner. I think I once even said to my husband “I don't need to win the jackpot of $54 Million, just a division prize of $1 million would be great.” Glad to see there are others like me out there!! đŸ™‚
I am a realist. It doesn't stop me buying the occasional ticket when it's a big jackpot or something, but on average, I can't afford to spend the $10 plus for a ticket so it is rare.
I'm sure I read somewhere once that if you invested or even just banked the money each week that you would normally invest in Lotto, you would end up with way more than you are ever likely to win. I'd love to see someone invest that money. Financial freedom is a dream for me some day.
Mind you, I still have planned out what I'd spend it on. I think this is my 'fantasy life' of financial freedom. I wouldn't want to tell everyone – I think there are too many people out there who then 'expect' in such a situation. I would give money to family members but thankfully, don't have any friends who are in need (I say thankfully, because I am happy that all of my friends are financially secure and not in need). My dilemma would be my MIL – she is still a renter and doesn't think she'll ever own a home. Mind you, she doesn't try to save to achieve that goal. She'd rather spend her money on cigarettes and booze so I would really struggle with my husband wanting to buy her a place – and I know he'd want to do that. Brother in law is the same – drug user and seller yet husband would want to help him, when all he ever does is take, take, take from us anyway.
What a dilemma!
I hope everyone manages to win lotto at some point – hopefully the point where you need it most!
I totally won the lotto on Saturday. $12.70. I totally won my money back (played 8 games as usual) plus a little junk change.
Oh that feeling when the lotto machine DOESN'T beep 'no win' and the lady says 'oh you've won something'. Bottle that joy.
If ever we were lucky, we'd be setting up trust funds for the kids, especially Jovie's medical needs. Then comes the private jets and golden geese.
One of our favourite games is to sit and dream about how we'd share and spend our lotto win. It's a shame we (almost) never play!
