How adventurous are you?

{print via happydeliveries}

In just over two weeks I’ll be jetting off to my week away in the Great Barrier Reef with Problogger. I’m excited. Excited about the sunshine, meeting new blogging friends, exploring and learning new blogging tricks {I’m a geek at heart. what can I say?}.

Back when I learned that I’d won, after I’d finished jumping up and down with excitement, I started to go through the itinerary with Hubby by my side. There’s snorkeling, island and rain forest visits, dinners and then on day five it’s a choose-your-own-adventure type day. We can pick from the following:

I thought I’d be brave with my selection. Well, not brave enough to take to the skies, ride a steed and travel the rapids, but brave enough to kayak through the coastline.

“You know what zipping through the trees is, right?” Hubby asked while chuckling.

“Yeah, we’ll go through the trees in our kayaks. The trees in the water? Right?”

“No,” Hubby laughed some more, “It’s zip-lining.”

Of course I googled that and it’s like a huge flying fox.

Still I stuck with my bravery and booked myself on the kayak and zipping trip. I told my little sister who had a bit of a laugh too, “Good on you for being brave.”

As the days got closer and I realised that I perhaps didn’t have enough courage {who wants to be the only blogger to pike out on the day, not me!} I changed my choice to something less adventurous.

Are you adventurous? What would you have picked?

  1. I was hoping you'd pick the kayaking! But I'm sure you'l have an awesome time doing whatever else you chose as well. You don't want to do something that is going to be all ruined because of nerves on the day.

I tend towards the more adventurous myself, you know except for rollercoasters. That's just crazy.

  2. I have these out of body experiences where I find that I have somehow put my hand up to do stuff that scares me ie: I signed up for the greatest shave, which was all fine and dandy in October but was totally terrifying in March when I actually had to cut off my waist length hair at half time in a roller derby game heh. But I would never ever do “zipping through trees” nuh uh there is bravery and then there is insanity.

  3. I usually chose pretty adventurous stuff and stick with it even if on the day i literally s**t myself. I have had some amazing experiences 'feeling the fear and doing it anyway' i.e. swam with dolphins even thought I am terrified by the sea.
I'm pretty sure you still have time to change if you want to…*that's the little devil talking*

  4. I'm a kayaker so would have stuck to your original option and with zip lining you sit in a harness thing. However i am NOT an adventurous eater at all – each to their own. I am sure all the options will be wonderful

    • I love kayaking but my minds runs wild – what if it's for fast kayakers. What if I slow everyone down? What if I freak out at the zipline. I don't know.

I'm semi-adventurous at eating, it's what I do, although no tongue, liver or testicles. Ever!

  5. I'm an adventurous spirit I guess. I have eaten duck tongue – that counts, right?

But I draw the line at things that are outright dangerous, like riding motorbikes in Thailand… Oh, wait, I've done that too. 😉

You're choices of adventure sound amazing, regardless of which you go with. So enjoy!!

  6. Before I had kids I was soooo adventurous and was up for trying almost anything (except bungee jumping and skydiving cause I don't have a death wish!) but now I take the safer/tamer options.

I do still say yes to things when they are a long way off, but like you as they draw nearer I think 'why did I say yes to this??'!

I'm sure you will have a great time on any of the options. Have a great time 🙂

  7. I'd definately go for the most adventurous option. The fun far outways the frightening factor and afterwards you always feel like you can tackle anything.

  8. Number 1 or 3 for me – definitely not an adrenaline kind of person here. Never was really but after having children what little bit of bravery I had – left!

I hope you have a wonderful time!

  9. Definitely the wildlife for me! You'd think being a wildlife carer that I'd get sick of it, but no!!
I am definitely not an adventure junky I'm afraid….I'm scared of anything where I might hurt myself!! Is that pathetic?

  10. I would have chosen the kayaking and zip lining. Both sound like so much fun and not scary at all. More like invigorating. In fact I have zip lined once before in Mexico and it was really great!

  11. Decisions, decision. There are so many great adventures to choose from. I think you'll enjoy your choice. I've gone zip-lining a couple of times. After leaving the first platform I had a fabulous time. So much so that we did again. Exhilarating! Just don't look straight down. Look out and enjoy the scenery.

  12. I am adventurous.. but I wouldn't jump out of a plane.. I love living on the wild side.. but won't camp in the bush *too many icky insects!*… I think I would have chosen the kayak aswell! It sounds like a great day out!

You are brave! 🙂 Enjoy yourself!

  13. I would have chosen 'zipping through the trees'. But I read you loud and clear! Come the day I would've gone with 'local Indigenous tribe'.

  14. I probably would have read the word kayaking and gone with that as I love kayaking…only to realise later that ziplining was also involved and freak out! Kayaking is about as adventurous as I get 🙂

  15. Zip-lining is so much fun! It's totally safe! The husband and I went zip-lining for our honeymoon and it was a blast! I'm scared of heights, but knowing I was strapped in safely and had professionals looking after me I felt safe. You'll have fun no matter what you chose!

  16. Ziplining is such fun! My mom made me go for my birthday last year. I loved it and I would dearly love to go again!! It is an absolute blast!

You are always attached to something so there is no way you could possibly fall. And you wear a helmet as you go zipping from tree to tree a lá Tarzan. You may let out a yell if you wish.

  17. They all sound so so so awesome. I think I would go with the animal one, but that's because I'm kind of obsessed with Australian animals. They're just so gosh darned weird.

  18. That quote really tugs at heart strings for me – I remember being a teenager and fighting with my Dad about something, him not letting me go to a party or something probably and he turned around and said that very thing to me – life is either a daring adventure or nothing. He said one day I would know what that meant. All I could think of was that he wasnt letting me go out and be adventurous but it touched me enough to write it in my diary and remember it to this day. So I know Im adventerous in life, I wont jump off a cliff or swim with sharks but I approach most situations with open arms and an open heart and I think that makes me adventurous 🙂

  19. I am totally not adventurous. Frankly, I wouldn't have picked either but probably ziplining as kayaking would be far too close to FNQ crocs for my liking.

  20. I once signed up to do a kind of hang gliding thing (can't remember the name of it) on a European back packing holiday. I'd paid up front at the beginnign of the tour and was excitedly terrified to test out my scaredy pants – I was not known for my risk taking, especially the extreme sporting kind.

Wouldn't you know it I woke up the day of the event and the weather was too bad for it. I never got to try it. Perhaps it was meant to be?

Good luck with zip lining, I'd love to try that (something kicked in when visiting Vegas, and I got my inner dare devil to come out).

  21. Hi Chantelle, I'll be with you on the trip and thought EXACTLY the same as you but, the difference is, my hubby didn't point out the error so it's too late for me …… Ho hum….
