Going Ga-ga for Gaga.

About a fortnight in to Hubby heading away for work last year I went into crisis-mode and realised that I couldn’t do it alone. I was a stressed out bundle of mess.

As always my support crew came in for damage control, and my Ma juggled her job and managed to wrangle one day off a week to care for Lacey {actually she started with two days a week – taking holidays to help me out – and then down to one when her holidays finished}.

I’m very, very lucky. We’re very, very lucky. My Ma rocks my world.

So for the past six months, every Tuesday my Ma stopped by at 8:20am to pick up Lacey. They’d go on their adventures together. They adore each other, and just like any Gaga {grandma} Lacey was always spoiled rotten.

This week was the last week that my Ma will be able to look after Lacey, as she could only wrangle so many days off work. I know they’re going to miss their one-on-one time together. I’ll miss them having one-on-one time together! I love my quiet Tuesdays…

Each Tuesday Lacey would come home with something special. Things from Gaga are always special, whether it’s a flower from her garden, an egg they boiled together {those girls and their boiled eggs!}, some “Wock ‘n’ Woll‘ pyjamas like this week, or this cute dress that they picked up before we left for the States.

Well actually, they came home with the pink one, and when they told me they were only $10 I quickly jumped in the car and went and grabbed two more. Bargain! And super cute too.

I’m very lucky to have a great support crew. I don’t know what I’d do without them.

Who’s in your support crew? Who comes running to your side when you need help most?

P.S. The dress is from Kmart, cos I know you’ll ask! xx

  1. My mum looks after Penny 5 days a week while I am at work. A big call I know!. Mum is brilliant with her and Penny jumps out of the car every morning with such excitement. We know how lucky we are and I let mum know how much she is appreciated everyday. As far as family goes Mum is our sole support person and my sister on weekends if need be. Love them both to bits!

  2. So sweet. I'm lucky to have a great support crew, too. My parents live close by and are always there in case of an emergency. They try to pic the kids up on Sundays so we get some time to work around the house, etc., of course have some time for ourselves, too. You can't be thankful enough for your family and friends. Have a great day – maks 🙂

  3. Yep, support crews are a MUST for your/my sanity. But,um, I LOVE Lacey's lil dresses. And her sandals, are oh so sweet. And that face?! Oh, that face….

  4. You know, this is spot on.. support crews are amazing. I've re-dedicated my efforts this year towards catching up with friends – not just run in's here and there, but good quality time, coffee dates, dinner dates with mates.. and the rewards are outstanding.

I love my friends – and having changed jobs last year it's more important than ever to really spend time with them. As a yoga teacher on the run here and there it's quite isolating.. plus I am single and live on my own – so friends are my 'family' here in the big smoke 🙂

  5. I'm woefully without support crew reinforcements. I do have my sister who is great but she has a really full-on job so mostly it's just me because my family doesn't live close enough. I don't mind too much though. I'm far too much of a control freak for too much help anyway.

  6. You are seriously blessed. I don't have a support crew. It is me and the hubby taking on the kids and the world. If it all starts to fall apart – we pull ourselves together and get on with it. Lovely to see you treasure your help. N x

  7. Laughs thanks for the P.S. I was about to ask where the dress was from.

I guess we are lacking in the support crew area. I do have my little sister, who is amazing but she has her own business and has also just had a baby herself a couple of weeks ago.

Having said that she was still able to be here by 8.45am yesterday morning, so that I could be a kindergarten Mum for a couple of hours.

My girls all love her to bits.

  8. My Mum & Dad are definitely my support crew. On many occasion I don't know how I would've survived without them. They are coming to look after our girls tomorrow night so we can have a much needed anniversary getaway! Love them to bits.

  9. Lacey is adorable always! Love the dress and those sandals : )
We don't really have a support crew either. Just my hubby and I most days. Can't remember the last break we got. Thankfully we do have Ebonie in pre-school on Friday's so I just have Cody and can run a few errands. Its hard, my husbands parents are there but have there own things going on so least in an emergency I guess we have back-up.

  10. Looks like little Lacey has outgrown her pretty pink shoes. i see her big toe poking over. She is so cute and love her outfits.

I know what you mean about a support crew. I don't know how I did it in the UK with my closest relative 2.5 hours away.

  11. We moved interstate and away from our support crew. It has been really really hard and now we are expecting bubba #2 Im anxious about how we will manage.
On the positive side, since being here I have developed a fantastic support crew out of other military wives. We are all in the same situation so are supporting one another as much as possible. I still have my almost daily talks with my mum and she is still my main support when it comes to figuring out how to be a mumma!

  12. Gosh gracious Telle, I totally hear you on this one. My support crew is definitely my Mum too. She isn't that well herself but she NEVER says no to having the young man, particularly if I need to work. I'd be TOTALLY lost without her. I'm lucky that Mr's work can be a little flexible so he comes home early on Tuesday when I head to work late afternoon but really, it's Mum who does the lion's share of the care after me…and she looks after me a bit too let's be honest. She knows when I need a pick-me-up and a special hug too. We're so lucky to have these special people and so are both Lacey & the Bebito to have such strong relationships with these wonderful women.

    Cat.
    xx

ps. Just caught up on all your conference posts. You've been so generous in sharing about your time away, it's been great to read about your journey.

  13. My MIL has become my support crew and she basically moved in while I have been hobbling with this injured Achilles. My parents both work and have their hands full with my sisters children. I am thankful raya has two sets of grandparents

  14. We live thousands of kms away from our families so our support crew is just hubby and I. Tomorrow he is taking one for the team and having all three boys on his own for the day while I head down to Melbourne for a hair appointment and a lot of retail therapy…
