Everyday Everybody: Rhian.

MeetRhian

. Rhian blogs over here, but it’s set to private. If you would like to have a read then just shoot her an email and she’ll let you through.

What’s been playing on your mind today?
Now that my baby Carter is five weeks old, I’m beginning to find myself again and have an urge to get creative and start some sort of artistic project! So, I’ve been trying to figure out exactly what I want to do.. Paintings, photography, sewing.. I’m not sure yet!

Do you sleep easily?
Once upon a time, I slept beautifully. I was the sort of person who could sleep for 10 hours straight, anywhere, anytime. I LOVED my sleep. Now that I have the munchkin, I’m happy if I can get 6 hours a night, and grab a nap during the day while he’s asleep. What a shock to the system!

Who do you have the most respect for?
This is an easy one. My mum is the strongest, kindest, most thoughtful person I know. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, and was in the 1% of people who become violently ill from chemotherapy, and couldn’t talk, walk or eat after each treatment. However, she was always positive and fought hard every single day. She’s now been in remission for 2 years now.

When did you last lose your temper?
When I was 9 days overdue with Carter, I lost it big time! I was trying my best to beat my induction date, and was becoming more and more anxious with every passing day. There were lots of tears and anger that day! However, by the 10th day I was in labour, and had my little boy in my arms 6 hours later.

What one thing would improve the quality of your life?
Right now, absolutely nothing. I have my beautiful little boy, my wonderful husband, and my family and friends. We’re all healthy and happy, and I know that sounds like a cliché, but it’s all all I can ask for. Right now, I’m the most content I’ve ever been in my life. Being a new mum is the toughest thing I’ve gone through, but it’s also the most rewarding.

What’s your ideal occupation?
Ideally, I would love to be a fine art photographer. There’s no better feeling that seeing your work in a gallery, and having people view and appreciate it. It’s even better when you find out someone has bought a piece! After studying photography at uni, I wanted to be the next Sally Mann as I just loved the work she did of her children in her Immediate Family series. However, I’m still in a job that I love- I’m an art/photography teacher in a Secondary School.

How do you like your potatoes cooked?
When I was pregnant with Carter, I craved potatoes, especially fries! When I had morning sickness they were one of the few things I could bear to eat. Now, I love crispy wedges with sweet chili sauce and sour cream.

How many pillows do you sleep on?
I sleep on one, but it has to be a Tri Pillow, and it has to be mine, otherwise I wake up with the sorest neck. I’m very fussy about it, and it drives my husband crazy!

Have you eaten frogs legs?
No, and I have to say, it doesn’t really appeal to me!

How do you indulge yourself?
Simple things like having a bath with Elemis Milk Bath, buying beautiful new oil paints, eating Haighs dark chocolate or simply taking time out to read a new book. I’m pretty easily pleased.

Thanks Rhian. I’m so glad to hear that your Mum is doing well. xx
