Lulu Gets A Big Girl Room

Brought to you by True Local.bedroom-makeover

I am the second child in a family of four kids. You know that second child syndrome? The first kid gets all the good stuff and the rest of the kids… well not-so-much. I vowed not to do that with my kids. They would both be treated the same, I would do all the reading, art & crafts, baking, and stuff that I had done with Lacey. Yet, Lulu wears loads of hand-me-downs {which I actually love}, I’ve rarely painted with her, and up until recently I hadn’t done her room up as I had been meaning to do.

Poor deprived Lulu {I kid! Her life is ace!}.

But I did think, now that she’d turned the ripe old age of 3, it was time to change her room up and take it to a big girl room.

While Hubby took Lulu down the coast for the day to hang with her Nanna, I got fixing up the room. And because I can’t hang a shelf to save my life I got help through True Local. You know when you’ve grown up in an area you know someone who knows a good plumber, handyman, lawnmower dude, or even the best place to get coffee. And then when you move to a new area, you’re like, “Who can I trust?”

Well, that’s what it was like for us moving here 4 years. True Local is a directory of Aussie Businesses. So you can find tradies to do the jobs you need done {but it’s actually not just services – you can find local favourite coffee spots, restaurants, cafes, beauty services and so much more}. There are even reviews and ratings, photos and videos, so you can see what experiences others have had with their tradesmen {or is tradesperson the right term?}.

This was Lulu’s room before…

I bought a few things {including floating shelves on eBay that required me to find a stud in the wall to put it up. STUD IN THE WALL? Isn’t that something that happens at nightclubs? Yeah, I definitely needed a handyman}, plus I had a frame that I’d wanted to put above Lulu’s bed since she was a bub.

This is Lulu’s room after…

I have to admit, when it comes to handyman stuff, I didn’t really know where to start. Two-thirds of Aussies don’t know how to choose the right tradie for the job, and I’m one of those people. I usually pick the person with the best website, or the coolest name {yeah, I’m like that!}.

Finding the right tradie is not as hard as we might think. True Local is easy to use – simply search, go through a few listings, call a tradesman who has some good examples of past work and some great reviews, and get the work done without any headaches.

The whole process was pretty easy for me. I just like to get stuff done, and ticked off my list… and that’s what happened. It took less than a day, and doesn’t it look pretty?

Lulu loved it, and still loves it. She loves pottering around and rearranging the shelves which I painstakingly decorated {gah!}. She’s one happy three year old!

  1. Always read your newsletters. And totally feel that second child thing. But i just loved the room. That L above her bed. And the little details. Love it all! (jess from demamacompany.nl)

  2. I just spent two nights with family interstate and slept in a bedroom belonging to a four year old girl. As a mum of boys I had THE BEST TIME EVER looking at all the girly stuff. Lulu’s room is delightful, great work x

  3. Her bedroom is the cutest! You’ve done a lovely job. I’ve had a search around the internet but can’t seem to find where you got your love heart and apple prints from. They’re adorable and I’d love them for my daughters room I’m about to redecorate. Would you mind sharing where you found them? Thanks 🙂

  4. I want to move in!!!!
So can’t wait until our house is ready to fit out – in saying that Sadie is so anti pink right now, that is more likely my bedroom will end up looking like the kids room!!!

  5. Love that she’s pottering around moving stuff on the shelves, she’s going to adore having her own space to be creative!

  6. I would have made hubby put the shelves up but I do relate to moving and not knowing good local business people – we found this when we moved to Melbourne. The room looks awesome and those little flamingo lights rock!
