September photo a day challenge: Here’s the list!

Hello! Hello! It’s time to reveal the September photo a day challenge. Here it is!

First up, you’ll notice the hashtag has completely changed. From now on it will just be #FMSphotoaday. I did this so it was easier to remember for everyone, and that we can see the photos from our little {or big!} community. So each month use the same hashtag. There will be a new list each month, just like there always has.

If you’re new around these parts {welcome!} let me share how to play. First up grab a camera or a smart phone. Save the list to your phone, or your computer, or save it to a Facebook album, your blog or Instagram. You’re more than welcome to share it. Then when September rolls around starting taking a photo each day. For instance for the 1st of September you’ll take a photo of you now. So it could be a self-portrait photo on the day, or take a photo of a photo. Then upload it to whichever platform you want to share it on; perhaps that’s Facebook, or Instgram, or Twitter or your blog {or Pinterest, Flickr, Tumblr etc}. If sharing to Instagram or Twitter, add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday.

One of the best bits of photo a day is checking out everyone else’s photos. You can find them on Instagram or Twitter by searching the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. Or check out my Facebook page where loads of people share theirs {share yours too!}: Fat Mum Slim Facebook page.

Now here is a little more about each prompt for September:

1. You, now: A photo of you at present. So a self-portrait. A photo of your reflection. Or a photo of a photo.
2. Father: It’s Father’s Day in Australia. Take a photo of your dad. A Dad. A father figure. Etc.
3. Far Away: Take a photo of something far away, as in distance or time-wise.

11. Hero: Who do you look up to? Share.
12. Together: Snap a photo of something together, or something that belongs together.
13. Table: Take a photo of a table, or something on a table.
14. Favourite: Take a photo of something that you adore!
15. First thing you see: What’s the first thing you see when you wake? Get to work? Or go somewhere? Snap it. Share it.
16. Strange: Shoot something strange/unsual in your day.
17. In my fridge: Give us a glimpse into the state of your fridge.
18. Price: Snap a price, on an ad, a tag or somewhere else.
19. Underneath: Snap a photo of something underneath. Simple.
20. Man-made: The opposite to natural, kinda. Take a photo of something man-made.

29. Errand: Take a photo of a errand you’ve done, or need to do, or something else did.

This will be my third month to play along! I love how it makes me more aware of things around me when I’m stumped or looking for something that fits the prompt. I’ve missed a few here & there, sometimes a full week, but it’s so much fun! Thanks so much for putting thought & time into putting this list together each month for us!

Hubby and I played just between ourselves this month, and next month miss 8 and miss 10 want to play too. We don’t post them anywhere, just a family chat around the dinner table each night.

  9. global.local says

August is my first month – been loving it! though sometimes i run out of time and have to resort to a photo of something i dont like so much.. but i want to stick to doing it everyday, rather than ‘catching up’, so it can certainly be a challenge for that. thanks! :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/global_local/ if anyone cares to check them out.

What a great idea!! Thank you!! I found this via a Google search for 365-day photo challenge!! September will be my first month & I’m hoping to see a challenge for 2013 (if not, I’ll just do the 2012 ones) ;) I have a Shuttercal account (Mariko_1986) & Flickr as well (Mariko_1986). I hope to be able to keep up, I tend to start these & give up. :-

I started playing in August, and it is such fun! I really thought it would be a little hard to get my pics everyday, but its really helped me to think outside the square! Thanks :)

Hey Chantelle, I found your photoaday challenge on Instagram back in May and have been playing along ever since. I love, love, love it. Thanks so much. You have inspired me to set up a similar challenge called the gratitude journal (using #NNNGratitudeJournal) – more details over at my blog, NatureNurtureNotions.com Thanks so much for doing the photoaday challenge and now that I’ve found your blog, I will be following along there too. Have a great day!

I love this challenge, I started in July and due to medical and family issues I sometimes have to play catch up, but enjoy this never the less ……..thank you it also helps to take my mind of other things for a while :-)

  15. says

I’ll be participating for my third month :) but I’m not using the new hashtag. No offense or anything, but I like to have the month in there as a way to keep the photos organized!

  16. MarissaDW says

I’ve missed quite a few days in August, but I just catch-up and don’t stress about it. I’ll be participating because I use the theme, as a journal blog…to and incorporate the day’s event. Thanks for organizing the photo a day. I love it and I’m addicted to it.

  17. suzanne says

This has been so much fun! I started with the July challenge and have several friends who have joined me along the way. Great way to document your life!

  18. says

I love how this is just everywhere and now I’m joining in too :-)

A few months ago someone posted on Facebook you May month photographs, I thought it was a great conversation starter …me: ‘hey, you read Fatmumslim too? awesome blog right?’ them: what blog? I got it from twitter

You really have gone viral :-)

  19. janehlin says

Love it! First time player, & I did it all for August! What a great feeling of accomplishment…thanks for doing this. :)

  20. tonjeglez says

I’m looking forward to it, so many funny (and a bit difficult) prompts! I’ll be playing via Instagram, tonjeglez is me! :)

  21. says

I suck at keeping a certain schedule, but this sounds so much fun, I tried it for August, didn’t really work, but I’ll keep trying, hope to get more days done. :) I’ll be posting the pictures on instagram, look up for vio_sch :).. Thanks for organizing this! :)

  22. says

I played in August for the first time and, although some days I missed, I caught up the next day so I did get 31 photos for the month. I love it because it makes me use the camera. My husband and son both helped too so that was nice as well. I’m going to do it for September too but I don’t really understand what a hashtag is or what it’s for. I didn’t use one in August. I posted my photos on my Facebook page and had a lot of people tell me they enjoyed seeing them every day. So, could you (or someone) explain to me what a hashtag is and how to use it, please? Where do I put it?

    • Mariela says

If you use Instagram or Twitter to post your pictures it’s a way to tag them so anyone can search and find similar photos. You just type in the hashtag # sign followed by a word or words (in this case #FMSphotoady). You can search and see other people participating and their photos.

I’ve been doing the photos since this past March when I noticed a friend of mine doing them. I think in the past six months there have only been 5-6 that I haven’t done for one reason or another. For instance, the instructions for one day in July was to photograph someone I don’t know and post it. Well, since I wouldn’t want some stranger posting pictures of me on-line, I wasn’t about to do that to someone else. And one of August’s instructions was to take a picture of a dream I had and I simply couldn’t figure out how to do a picture of myself flying. This month’s list looks interesting and some of them seem challenging.

I read about this inspiring “project” on a blog I follow. Even though it’s already September 3rd now I will participate :-) And try my best! Plan to share the pics on twitter, Instagram and on my own blog. And don’t be too hard on me if I miss a day or two ;-) I’m just a rookie!

I’m trying to keep up, I love the challenge. Very hard with 3 full time kids and 2 part time kids I have a lot of fun with this and hope once school gets flowing I will be on top of it every day!

  27. says

I have to admit, my photo for today was not taken by me, but it is a photo OF me. I don’t have any pictures of my band other than at gigs, but band practice is something I do most weekends.

  28. mceeh says

Are we following the list at the top or the list with the daily descriptions? Because I noticed that the 10th and 11th are reversed in the lists!

  29. Seana says

I’m going to start today Sept 19th. I like your blog, I found you via pinterest & that led me to your blog & then on to instagram. You can find me at Seanaleebee on instagram.
I love your photos. I will use the hash tag.

My hubby is deployed for the second time this year, so I started doing the photo a day on my blog’s (www.VivaciouslyVintage.com) facebook page as a fun way for him to see what I’m up to while he’s gone until April…or May…or June…basically all they know for sure is they don’t know! lol
