Lets go crazy!

In a time not so long ago, but long enough that I can’t remember how old I was, I found myself at a Prince concert. It wasn’t surprising, mind you, as I had pretty much every CD that he’d ever made and knew every word to every song he’d ever sung. Even the rude words. Oh my.

My Big Sis and I sat in awe as he performed and danced when the music called for it. Actually it was hard not to dance, it was that good. He was a true artist. The concert went for longer than any other concert I’d been to because he just felt like jamming that night, so he did. He just kept playing and making things up and putting on a show. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to.

Prince is touring again, and I think I want to go. Like really want to go.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to? Do you like a bit of Prince? Or should I be slightly embarrassed that I’m a Prince fan?

  1. Too many best concerts to mention. I do like a bit of Prince. 1999 is my favourite song by him. So no, no need to be embarrassed to be a fan. If he didn't have any fans, he would never have become this big. Symbol, artist, formerly known as.

  2. you should definitely NOT be embarrassed! He puts on a great show and has a lot of songs I love!

I've been to over a hundred live shows — kinda a music freak. But my best was probably Muse. They are just so amazing

  3. I love Prince! Definitely go.

My husband's favorite singer is Billy Joel so I arranged to go to a concert to see Billy Joel and Elton John for Valentine's day. He'd never been to a concert before!?! It was awesome.

  4. Prince is amazing, you should so go again! I'm showing my age here but in the late 80's I was lucky enough to see micheal Jackson on his bad tour which was mind blowing & I also saw simply red who were amazing live.more recently I saw pink twice on the funhouse tour & she blew me away as did the foo fighters late last year.I totally encourage my teens to see live music, even if it means I have to do the 3hr drive to Sydney, there is nothing like the electric atmosphere of a live show!

  5. love PRINCE!!!!! I did get to see Pink when she was last here, and OMG she was Brilliant!!!! I saw her in Canberra it was small and so intimate, I loved it! but my favourite was Kylie's showgirl tour, was so fabulous its hard to describe!!

  6. Best concert I have ever been to..oh my there have been a lot of great ones. But my favorites are Garth Brooks (last tour), Backstreet Boys with New Kids on the Block, and The Roots.

Don't me ashamed of Prince…I love Prince. PLUS Prince is from Minneapolis, MN in which I now live!! We all have Prince PRIDE over here!!!

  7. I loved Prince more in the mid-late 1980s (Little Red Corvette, 1999 – or whatever it was called etc). I liked him less in his Purple Rain etc days, but he was most certainly a showman, so… if he's still as energetic and charismatic, it could be interesting!

  8. The best concert for me was last year when I went to see Eric Clapton in a tiny little theatre here in London. And I must say that it was definitely touching. The played “Tears in Heaven” just by him self with his guitar at the end of the concert and I swear half of the public was almost crying.
It was an amazing experience as I went with my dad (who came to London just to see it) and we had a great time together.

I am not very fun of Prince, but if you feel passionate about his music I think you should go and enjoy your self as much as you can.

  9. The only concert I've been to that wasn't held at my university was Ingrid Michaelson's. And it was this past Monday! She put on an amazing show and I would see her again in a heartbeat!

  10. One of the best concerts I've been to was Florence and the Machine last year in Sydney at that small mastercard gig and she was amazing.

I love Prince. You have to go!

  11. Um, I just clicked BUY on 2 Hanson tickets for September this year. They are finally back in Aus after 15 years and my teenbopper heart couldn't take it.

So, while I'll be dragging my husband along and will be coming to Syd (since the Melb show sold out in 5 mins!!!) – I can't wait!! 😀

Prince is awesome too – get on it! 😀

  12. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' live at Brisbane's Festival Hall was my absolute favourite, because we were right at the side of the stage…..amazing!!! Then I saw Prince, and I couldn't believe what an incredible showman he was!! I'm so glad to have seen a great variety of music live, including several Bluesfests at Byron, and will definitely be encouraging Bell to see live bands when she is old enough, even though it won't be for another 10 years or so.

  13. U2 in Vienna is my all time fave.
There is no embarrassment at being a Prince fan. I have a red beret I have always wanted to wear to a Prince concert…might just need to fulfil that wish.

  14. You cannot beat live music. It is fan-bloody-tastic. I saw Prince in the late 80's and he was absolutely amazing! The sound was great, I think my friend and I were on our feet dancing the whole time! Very keen to see him again!

Last concert I saw was Lenny Kravitz, just a couple of weeks ago. Love, love LOVED it. Rock and roll, baby. So talented and sexy as all get out!

  15. Love him or hate him, Prince is undeniably a musical genius.

Best concerts I've been to….. ummm….. can't choose between the large scale showmanship of Robbie Williams, and the intimate brilliance of Jamie Cullum. I'd rate them both above U2, in fact.

  16. Prince is amazing, and I too was that kid singing along to his music word for word. Looking back I cant believe my parents allowed me to listen to his music (but when you're a kid you dont know what the lyrics mean). I'm a huge Backstreet Boys fan, and have been watched them everytime they have toured (3 times!). I've got tickets to the NKOTBSB concert next month, however my due date is 4 days later, hopefully I can still go *cross fingers*

  17. I saw Prince in Vegas a few years ago – a tiny club that only held 80 people. Best show EVER. So no, you should NOT be embarrassed – Prince is amazing!

  18. Affirmative – Prince is THE best concert I have ever been to! And I was lucky that it was my first ever concert! The first time he came to Australia and I was still at high school! I had loved him ever since I was about 8 – because my older sister and her friend loved him! I can still remember that night – and I have already teed up with some friends this morning to try and get tickets to his Melbourne concert next month! Fingers crossed!

  19. He is great, but just know that his show will not be the same as it was when he was really big… he doesn't grind on his guitar or do as much sex in the show.

But, he is still an EXCELLENT performer and you should totally go see him.

  20. Embrace your love for Prince!! I myself love – as always – the Dave Matthews Band. I have gone to their concerts since I was 16. Just bought some tickets for their tour – 15 year anniversary of my love for them!!!

  21. I like you even more now. I've been a long time fan of Prince and finally got to see him live here in Canada in December and found him definitely worth the wait!

  22. I got pregnant with my second child after Prince came to town. (Literally) I thought about calling her Moira Prince Myers. Didn't have much ring to it.

  23. I saw him a few years ago and he is still amazing. I joined his fan club and got presale tickets, didn't have to pay the outrageous ticket seller fees AND was on the 3rd row. If he's still doing it like that, get on it!

  24. Best concert was as a 13 year old seeing AC/DC in the town hall of the small country town I lived in – with the wild Bon Scott prancing up and down the stage and me right next to it. My mum let me go with two chaperones who promptly went up the back of the hall with their girlfriends. It was magic.

  25. Just wanted to say hi and that I love your blog – so much that I have added you to my “Blogging Friends” page as one of my must read blogs 🙂

  26. I am a huge Pearl Jam fan and have seen them 9 times, but my favourite concert was Sydney night 1 2006 when i was in the 8th row, awesome night.
Not a massive Prince fan, but I imagine he would put on a good show 🙂

  27. Don't ya just love Prince? (Julia Roberts, “Pretty Woman”) Why yes, yes I do! Totally not embarrassed to admit it.

Best concert ever? Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run tour. Yes, I'm that old.

  28. Nothing to be ashamed of! Prince really is “the artist”!
The best concert I've ever been to was U2, the 360°-tour. It was just great how Bono and the others rocked and talked and ever since, when I hear the songs they played there, I start to shiver and I feel like I'm back there in the crowd. Now I'm looking forward to Coldplay in September. I'm sure it will be fantastic. Have a wonderful day!

    Isabelle

  29. Best concert has been MONA FOMA the last two years. Last year it was Grinderman and then Amanda Palmer – this year it was The Dresden Dolls and then The Dresden Dolls + Brian Ritchie and assorted rock gods covering The Violent Femmes first album (although, not sure it's covering if you've got an original band member in there.)

Prior to MOFO I didn't do live music. Now I wonder what I've missed.

  30. I've been to many concerts, one of my favourites was Meatloaf about 20 years ago at The Palais in St Kilda, it was totally awesome! I saw Miley Cyrus with my daughter last year and she put on a fantastic show, she is a great performer!

  31. I love Prince. My favorite concert I ever went to was Pearl Jam. Well actually the best part was that The Ramones opened for them. I had no clue they were the opening band, and I got to see them before Joey Ramone died. it was so much fun!

  32. Prince would be awesome to see again with your sis! Always thought I was very clever for knowing the words to the 'rude lyrics' in his early music too! Best 'BIG' concert of more recent times would have to be – AC/DC @ Subiaco stadium – they absolutely rocked the living daylights out of our little city out here in the West! Best small concert is hard to pick, we are blessed to have so much wonderful local talent – Andrew Winton – brilliant & also Lynnie Smyth & band – blissful. R.B

  33. My favorite and first concert was, pathetically, when I was 21 and it was Phil Collins at Madison Square Garden. My god can that man play the drums. I got teary-eyed and everything. Since then, OAR at MSG and Red Hot Chili Peppers in Albany playing the new Stadium Arcadium are right up there making them my top 3.

  34. Oh my goodness!!! Prince was my first REAL concert. I went with my friend Sandra…I remember as we were going how many of us were dressed up in our frilly lace and purple… He was SO awesome. He was playing the piano, I forget the song he was playing, but he reached up to the sky, leaned all the way back, touched the floor and came back up and started playing the piano again without skipping a beat…but my heart did!!! 😉 I LOVE Prince!

  35. I'm so much a fan I had to comment AGAIN, I tell you Prince Groupie since 1978! (his First Album “For You”)…

I still think that his 1999 is is masterpiece! Purple Rain put in him the front with the rest of the public, but 1999 was the album!

    GOOOOOOOO!! GET THE TICKETS!!!

  36. I've been to a lot of big concerts! Love big concerts!! Michael Jackson was the best…by.far! He was AHmazing. Prince however creaps me out. You couldn't pay me to go to his concert…..ick!

  37. Prince is a seriously talented little guy! I'm a big U2 fan. 3 concerts in three different countries. The best though was the one here in Melbourne last year. I cried like a school girl 😉

  38. I WANT TO GO!!!! I met Prince when he was here in the 90's – long story but really great story. I have loved him since I was 12, he is my fave all time performer. Can you believe presale tickets are $850 for 1 ticket and you cant just buy 1. Min buy of 2 tickets on the floor in front of the stage on a table of 4! Lets get a group going and buy a table or 2!

  39. PRINCE was my very first concert….Ever.
    I want to go too…

I have to check his tour dates for NYC…I must be there…

I met him on the street in NYC when I was a little girl before he was too popular. He was walking with his giant, bald bodyguard and I stopped him and said..”You're Prince, I love you so much!!!!” He said “thank you very much”….and touched my face….I thought I was going to DIE…….

    I'll never forget that…ever.

    I LOVE HIM.

  40. We saw Lenny Kravitz recently, and he was AMAZING…but I still think Sting was a stand out concert for me. When a sixth show was released back in 1996, Mr A and I decided to get tickets, and we got front row! It was at the State Theatre, so more intimate and he was amazing. We shook his hand towards the end of the concert. I was never a huge Sting fan until I saw that concert. He really is a talented performer.

  41. I have an honest to god story!! Back in the 80s when he was doing his Prince and the revolution days, my mother had a friend who was OBSESSED with him… she met him back stage once… and didn't return home til the next morning… yup. But I love Purple Rain. No every word by heart. My favorite song of all time is Computer Blue!!

  42. My favorite concert was Jamie Cullum – he's just such a passionate artist and that def. comes across when he performs!! And Andrew WK is an awesome performer too!! 🙂 Incubus is my all time fav band, and they were amazing live too….

  43. Tee hee, best concert was Madonna, 1994 at the SCG, wow. Girls from school went to Prince & were invited up on the stage to dance, sure it made their LIFE, well back then!! My first daughter was born in 1999 & we burst out into “like it's 1999” whenever we fill in forms etc, she doesn't react, knowing it only makes us sing louder, love Posie

  44. I saw Prince the last time he was here. I was 8 mths pregnant with my first child and danced my feet off. I would have seen him before that, but I was 17 with no credit card and my mum got home after his concerts sold out 🙁 I'm hoping to see him this time, but am waiting to hear back from my mum to see if she can look after the kids for me (hopefully not a case of history repeats!). He is amazing in concert.

My hubby and I also saw Lenny Kravitz recently, our first concert together in over 8yrs. It was awesome, Lenny was awesome, but I have to say The Cranberries blew the roof off the venue, absolutely rocked!!!

  45. Love Prince. Saw him in 1982 in Toronto and I didn't have all his CD's – I had his ALBUMS! LOL! He was here (Toronto) recently and I'm still kicking myself for not going. You should really go if you can.

My husband and I saw Springsteen a few years ago – that concert was awesome!

  46. Never be embarrassed for what you like. I was one of the lucky ones to get a ticket for Prince on Monday and I'm going by myself as I don't know anyone else who wanted to go. I'll be the 40 year old with no mates singing at the top of her voice!

  47. I was fortunate enough to see Prince this past December and let me just say….. IT WAS AWESOME! I've never danced so much in life (learned I'm getting too old for that), but it was a blast.
