July Photo A Day 2014: Let’s do this thing

Hello you.

How are you? Good? I’m sooooo good. This is one of the most exciting weeks of my life. My App is coming out this week and I am sooooo looking forward to playing along this month using my App. If you join me in doing in that way too, feel free to use both hashtags #fmsphotoaday and #littlemomentsapp so I can see what you’ve been cooking up. I’m going to be blogging about the App later in the week, but just keep an eye on Friday for it.

And if you’re not an App person, no worries. You can play it like we always have. That works too. Details are below.

But first let me share a little bit about the designer of the list this month. It’s my lovely friend Tessa from Down That Little Lane with help from Charlotte who is the calligraphy queen. Charlotte has actually designed some cool stuff for my App too. Down That Little Lane is an online store that is home to the most beautiful goodies. You’ll love it. Check it out here.

And now the list for July…

July-Photo-A-Day-List

HOW TO PLAY PHOTO A DAY

Playing photo-a-day couldn’t be easier. It really couldn’t. Here’s how to play:
Grab your camera or phone or photo-taking-device.
Look at the monthly list to find the prompt for the day. {The number corresponds to the date of the month}.
Take a photo using the prompt as inspiration. So for July the prompt for day 1 is ‘red + white’. So take a photo of something red and white. Colour prompts are my favourite, it’s fun to see all the photos in the hashtag turn red and white.
Now you’ve taken a picture, it’s time to share it. This is the fun part. You can share to whichever social media platform you like, for me I like Facebook and Instagram best, oh and Twitter too. Make sure you add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday to your caption so people can find you, and others know what you’re doing.

If you’re sharing on Facebook, you might like to join our Facebook group. It’s a big, lovable community of photo-taking-people. Click here to find it.
Now you’ve shared, check out other people’s photos. You can check out the #FMSphotoaday hashtag on Instagram or Twitter to find them all. OR look at the Facebook group. It’s nice to comment and get to know other photo-takers too. We’re a friendly bunch.
If you’re playing using my App, it will add the hashtag and prompt automatically to your caption.

WHERE TO PLAY

I’ve touched on this above, but there are loads of places for you to upload your photo-a-day photos. Here’s a bit more details:

Instagram: Just upload your photo, and add a caption and the hashtag #FMSphotoaday and then share.
Facebook: There are a few options here. You can simply share on your own personal page, among your own friends. Or you can upload to my page’s wall, or to the FMS Photo A Day Facebook group. You can join it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FMSphotoaday/ Now that Facebook has hashtags, simply add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday when you share your photos and you’ll be able to see which of your friends are playing along too. It’s cool!
Blog: If you have a blog, you could share each day or do a wrap up of all the photos at the end of the month.
Tumblr: Add your daily photos to your Tumblr feed.
Flickr: You can get their app and share your photos there, or upload on their web version. We also have a photo a day group here.
Twitter: You can share on Twitter by uploading the photo and sharing the hashtag #FMSphotoaday.

HOW TO REMEMBER THE PROMPTS EASILY

I know it can be hard for people to remember to do photo-a-day each day, particularly for those just starting out. It takes 21 days to form a habit, so stick at it. Until then we have have these tips:
The Little Moments App is going to be the easiest way to remember how to play. It can send little daily reminders to your phone at the time of your choice. Or you can just open the App and get all the details in one click.

Otherwise, without the App try these:
Come back here each day and click the button on the right-hand side to check out the list.
Right-click on the list above and save it to your desktop. Or if you’re on your phone you could take a screenshot and save it as your wallpaper. {To screenshot click the power button and home button at the same time}.
The lovely Doug has created prompts for us that we can download straight into our calendar, so we won’t forget. Just click on the below to get them in your phone. They’ll be ready soon. Come back on July 1st to grab them.

WHAT’S THE FAB FOUR?

Each day I spend some time scrolling through the photos shared on Instagram and Facebook, selecting four from each platform to put a bit of a spotlight on. The Fab Four isn’t a competition. There is no prize. It’s just a way to share some of the awesome photos being shared for Photo A Day. The Instagram Fab Four will be shared in my Instagram feed daily, and will also be showcased in my App too.

Over on Facebook the lovely admins of the Facebook group select the Fab Four each day. You can find it pinned to the top of the group. The admins are Leesa, Barbara, Sarah, Kim and Natalie.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE PROMPTS

The prompts really are up to your own interpretation. Don’t feel like you have to follow any rules. Do as you please. Some people like to know what I’m thinking when I create the prompt, so below is just a suggestion:

7. first
Are you the first to wake up? The first in line? What can you see that is the first of something. Anything.
8. i’ve never…
What have you never done? Share it in a photo.
9. alive
Share a photo of something that is alive. Or something that makes you feel alive.
10. sharp
Be careful! But also take a photo of something sharp. It doesn’t have to be a knife. It could be the corner of a building perhaps.
11. gold
Find something gold and share a photo of it.
12. interior
Share a photo of the interior of something – could be your home, a car or something smaller.
13. look up
Look up. What do you see? Take a photo.
14. old school
Think retro, old school. Find something.

16. listening to…
What can you hear? Share a photo.
17. sunshine
Head outside and capture yourself some sunshine.
18. admire
What or who do you admire? Share a photo.

20. moment
Steal a moment today, and take a photo of it. {Like a coffee break, or a special moment between two people…}
21. basic
Get back to basics and take a photo. It could be a simplistic photo, or a basic subject matter.
22. i wore this!
Take a photo of something you wore today, or perhaps a day in the past.
23. macro
This is a fun photographic technique. Head over to my blog to find out how to capture it.
24. water
It’s as easy at it sounds. Find a way to be creative with capturing water today.
25. home
Share a photo of home. It could be your home, or something that represents home.
26. fun
How can you share a photo of fun? Is it lots of bright colours? Kids laughing? People dancing? Share it.
27. ten
It could be a $10 note/bill. Or ten items. Or the number 10. Up to you, my friend.
28. cool
What will you share today? Something cool {as in ‘rad’} or something chilly?
29. repeat
Repeat is something that happens more than once, like something in part of a pattern. Share it.
30. lost
Are you missing something? Or have you found something that is lost? Share it.
31. rise
You could share a sunrise, or something rising {sounds like a good reason to bake bread to me!}.

Alrighty then, let’s do this!

  1. I haven’t ‘played’ Photo a Day in ages, but I follow along and check out everyone else’s photos. I have to say I am soooo excited for your app, and I can’t wait to play along this month. The bonus is I’ll be hiding away in the Mediterranean for the month of July. The countdown is on till Friday!

  2. Exciting. I’ve slipped away from Photo A Day, but the app (and my less busy schedule over the summer!) may tempt me back in…

  3. I’ve played along with Photo a day for the last couple of years when I travel to the UK for two months. Looking at July and August in a photo a day gives me a different reminder to the straight holiday/family shots that I take normally. Excited that on ‘Something beginning with K’ I’ll be on a plane.
The app sounds great – anything that makes it easier to participate is cool. I’ve used the prompts as my screen image on my iphone before now. Really excited now.
PS I post the PAD pics on my second blog walkingonsunshine.me

  4. Chantelle, I don’t have an iphone, so I’ve tried the 2 links for downloading the prompts and they only go through June; July is not on there.

  5. I like that there is an app, however, very sad that it is only on iPhone, etc. Also, I’m missing July’s prompts….
