Family Affairs

Phew!

What a week! Having holidays for two weeks, returning to work for just two weeks and then taking another two weeks off really has sent me a spin. I feel all out of whack. The jet lag, flu and waking up at 3am-ish each morning isn’t helping either… Moan & groan over.

We’re heading down the coast tomorrow morning to visit my sister, her boyfriend, my brother and his girlfriend, and stay the night too. My sister just bought a new car and a puppy, so I have to go down and give the big sister approval {read: soak up that new car smell and give that puppy dog enough squeezes to make it run in the other direction!}. Unfortunately, we’ll be leaving Hubby at home as he has to work.

I’m feeling a tad bad though, because I didn’t buy any presents from our trip. My family always, always buys presents from holidays. I did buy my brother some clothes, but that’s it. Eeek!

Do you buy presents for family and friends when you travel? Do you buy souvenirs, or do you make a bit more effort? Most importantly please tell me, am I a bad sister for not loading them up with gifts? Be honest!

P.S. I’m loving my $16 cheap shoes {in the pic}. They’re not leather, but I’ll get my $16 worth out of them, don’t you worry!

  1. I don't travel enough to even think about buying presents for family and friends! When I do travel though, I often forget because I'm so preoccupied with the excitement of being somewhere new. So no, you are NOT a bad sister! Sounds like you have a perfect weekend planned. Have fun with all the puppy squeezing and new car smelling! xxx

  2. Yes! You should have got presents! Especially if they buy you presents. Naughty Chantelle.

Can you give them something from your goodie bags or is all such cool stuff that you want to keep it all?

Nevermind, I am sure next time you go somewhere you'll get them something – or least tell them that.

    Have a lovely weekend!

  3. Have just discovered your blog recently, and loving it! Your having way too much fun to go looking for presents when you are on holiday!
I usually send a tacky postcard – but we have usually returned from the trip before they get the postcard?!
Don't worry about – your presence is more appreciated than presents I'm sure.

    Have a fun weekend.

  4. Im surprised that you would go somewhere as exciting as America, and not buy your family presents.

  5. Jeepers, Anonymous- way harsh! I probably would have forgotten in all the excitement…

We only really buy souvenir presents for the kids, nieces, nephews, I'm sure you're family won't mind!

    xx

  6. Yep we always buy stuff. Surely you can share some of those goodie bags that kept getting put on your bed.Still they wil be glad to have you back safe so they will forgive you – give them funny stories from the trip instead

  7. No. I am crap at buying prezzies on holidays. I do feel bad about it though. I love the idea but I can never be bothered wasting the precious time away.

  8. Enjoy your weekend catching up with family…the present part…seriously, they will be happy just to see you and besides being in another country is enough to take in let alone thinking what to buy people. It will be fine.

  9. My rule is to definitely buy a pressie when away on holidays. But I only say this because we never go on holidays and my extended family goes to places like Paris, Rome, England, etc. *sigh* It's such a shame they don't listen to my rule though 😛

  10. I'm feeling pretty much the same at the moment. We just arrived home from Hong Kong and although I managed to buy gifts for my daughter's school friends, I didn't buy any family gifts. I feel especially bad because my sister leant us a suitcase and it would have been really nice to bring her back something as a thankyou, rather than grab something here.

  11. Ahh the dilemmas! My sister always buys expensive gifts and lots of them – she can afford it though. I always buy lame gifts like fridge magnets… A great standby is a framed photo of our kids doing something while on holiday eg with Mickey Mouse…

  12. I used to buy trinkets for family and friends when I first started travelling, but soon enough let that one go… I don't think people expect things nowadays. We maybe just get our kids a little something if either hubster or I go away.

Some of the kids at my kids' school bring home presents for the entire class (30 kids!). Insanity!
