You Touched Me.

O

ne day when I was a little girl my mother asked my sister and I if we wanted to go to the grocery store with her. Immediately we began fighting over who got the front seat, and my mum settled it by making us both sit in the back seat together. After a few minutes we began bickering again.

‘Hey! You’re on my side!’
‘You touched me!’

Looking back on that childish fighting, I realised that something beautiful has happened to us. we have grown close. And that closeness has lasted a lifetime.
My sister and I are grown up now and our childhood battles are over. We don’t ‘tell’ on each other anymore. Yet comments we made as kids still ring true today.
You are on my side. You have touched me.
I gave this to my sister years and years ago in a card for her birthday. I think I read it in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. It’s so true for us. We used to bicker like that about nothing. And now we are both on the same side. xx

  1. Thanks so much for posting this. As a mum of 2 little girls 20months apart who constantly bicker, it's encouraging to think that they will one day be close. I always wanted a sister and I'm so glad that my girls will one day have each other.

  2. omg
this reminds me of my childhood

my sister used to proclaim that her and I would never be friends

we are now the best of friends!

  3. Thats is gorgeous, hmmm wonder if my sister and I will reach that happy point at any stage in our lives? We try but… I fear we are still fighting about who gets the front seat! x

  4. That's beautiful, Chantelle… My sister and I are exactly the same – we grew up bickering all the time, but now we are the best of friends. I only hope that we can give my daughter a little sister so that she might have the same relationship with her sister one day. Sisters are the best!

  5. My brother (who is 42) STILL draws an imaginary line on the sofa/back seat of the car/park bench, marking his territory (so to speak!) – it's a beautiful thing most siblings share, and a huge reason I wanted my 3yo to have a little brother or sister (he got a little sister last August and now they are starting to do it themselves!)

Thanks for the reminder of, it's put a smile on my face 🙂

  6. It's been almost a year since I've been to NZ. Wow!
Anywho, I really liked that quote. Up until a couple of years ago, my sister and I weren't close. Now, we're closer than ever. I can completely relate!
