Working on my work wear

1. Next (free shipping to AUS) $92 2. Leona Edmiston $129 3. Rachel Pally via Nordstroms $128 (50% off) 4. Kiyonna $118 5. Eliza Parker $189

Now that the smaller company I work for has been bought out by a bigger company I’ve had to step up my wardrobe a notch to suit the conditions. The other week when I had a big meeting to go to I messaged a workmate to ask, “Do you think I can wear jeans?”

She promptly told me, “You can NEVER wear jeans. Stop with the jeans already. Jeans are for days when you’re doing nothing!”

Dang. I thought tracksuit pants were for those days!

I’ve been lusting over the dresses above for a while. I want something not too dressy, but dressy enough. I need something with a V-neck because I’m… well… I’m well endowed. I also wanted something with sleeves so that I didn’t have to add the bulk of a cardigan.

In the end I went with number 3, after spotting Sarah Jessica Parker wearing the same dress. It’s probably still too casual for work, but it’s a step up from jeans … right? Did I make the right choice?

I’ve also purchased a few other gems, but I’ll share next week once everything has arrived.

Anyways … I’m off to a work meeting today and then this weekend I’ll be seeing the dress of all dresses … my sister’s wedding dress!

I hope you have a cracker weekend. Do you have anything planned? Weddings, parties, anything?

  1. Beats my work wear! I love to get dressed up, especially for a wedding or something. I like choosing what to wear on my days off too, say, to visit my mum, that's what I'm doing this weekend 🙂

  2. I liked 3 and 4. I'm with you on jeans for work though – I am lucky enough to work for a smallish family business (and have been since Jan 11) and I only wear jeans to work now – long jeans in winter, 3/4 or knee jeans in summer !!!

Nothing exciting planned for the weekend – looking at bathroom showrooms to price what it would cost to redo the bathroom. And tax returns and BAS returns on Sunday !!!!

Have a great time seeing your sister's wedding dress !

  3. That dress is so wonderful! I went nuts with some colourful earings or necklaces to show *effort*! and I found blingy shoes did the trick as well!
    enjoy!

  4. I think 1 is lovely because of the sleeves! 4's length is just right too and I can so imagine 3 on u! 🙂

I work in a big organization but my office is a little isolated from the rest so I'm usually in casual dresses & funky colored tights heehee

    Ai @ Sakura Haruka

  5. I think you made a superb choice Chantelle, it's a beautiful design, gorgeous flow to it.
Number 1 is also divine, love it!
So exciting you are seeing the wedding gown! Oh I miss wedding shopping… most of my girls are now married, so no more bridal excitement for me! xo

  6. Oh I love all these! I'm partial to a swingy dress with sleeves, gorgeous. I hope you have a fabulous time at the wedding <3

PS I thought tracksuit pants were for those days too!

  7. Good choice Chantelle, i'm with Dani, will be easy to dress up or down. I do like number one too! Have a good weekend! x jody {lemonrhodes.blogspot.com}

  8. Oh all of these would look great on you! The one good thing about going to work is the dressing up part I think… Oh and processing one of your own thoughts for once. Perfect for the coming months. Ps. Thanks for yesterday's retweet. X

  9. I love the one you went with, and the detail on the first one is gorgeous too.

I live in jeans, so they probably are for when you're doing nothing lol. I'd love to start wearing dresses again though. My big issue is boobie access for the babygirl, can make dresses tricky! Needs either very v neck with stretchy fabric or buttons.

  10. I…but…you…I…feel like I've been PARAPHRASED about the jeans advice *glowers darkly*

Agree about your dress choice though – you may be forgiven *more glowering*

  11. Dress number 3 arrived today. I love it, but am a little disappointed in the sleeves. They're not enclosed, instead just completely open (like a flap of fabric). So it feels a bit more casual than I'd hoped.

    Eek.

  12. I love all of those dresses, especially the first one, although I'm not sure it would come in my size.

And I definitely think that they are work appropriate! And long sleeves instead of cardis is a great idea. I did spaghetti strap dresses with cardis all summer.

  13. Oh what swishy dressing fun. Maybe not jeans for a meeting but the wedding dress would be a bit too formal!! How exciting, your sister's wedding dress. I know my sister has never recovered from me not taking her wedding dress shopping, our tastes are very different, i hated her dress (think Snow White puffy sleeves) & she would have hated mine!! I got in so much trouble from our mother for going on my own, bought the first dress i tried on & still love it (i had it made of course). Love Posie

  14. I was going to say I don't like 3, 1 , 4 and 5 would be my picks, but I think it's the sleeves on 3 that turn me off.

Do you think you can get them altered?
