Why bloggers are the bomb.com

This was my breakfast yesterday. Diet coke was essential, as it always is when seedy or hungover. And I was yesterday {on a school day no less!} after celebrating the Top 50 Bloggers the night before. I’m such a cheap drunk, three drinks and I’m done. Actually, I didn’t feel drunk but I did feel the hangover. Thankfully it disappeared after breakfast.

Something that didn’t disappear though, was a little buzz I get after catching up with fellow bloggers. For days after I can’t seem to wipe the smile from my face. Bloggers are good, fun people. Why? Here’s why:

1. They like to share {and sometimes over-share}
So we type away like busy little squirrels behind our computer screens most days, but get us in a room {IRL!} and we also like to chat. Conversations come easily for most bloggers, because sharing comes naturally. Sometimes there is a few over-shares, but I love them the best!

2. Bloggers get IT
Not I.T, but IT. I often turn to Hubby and say, “Can you believe this?” And he gives me a look as if it to say, “No, you geek!” He doesn’t get it {he tries}, but bloggers do. Bloggers get the lingo, the trials, the hard yards and the good stuff. It’s nice to be around like-minded people.

3. It’s OK to check your phone mid-conversation
Who else wouldn’t find it rude to have you check Twitter and upload a photo to Instagram all while having a deep and meaningful?

4. All the ground-work has been done
When meeting new people it usually takes a short while for the conversation to warm up, but with bloggers we already know each other just from a bit of blog reading. Admittedly, sometimes it’s odd to know lots about a blogger and be unsure on whether you can raise stuff they’ve written about. But conversation is usually easy and free-flowing.

5. Bloggers know how to have fun
Perhaps sometimes a little too much? I think there were a few delicate bloggers yesterday morning, but boy do bloggers know how to have fun … and best of all there is usually photo evidence to prove it, shared all over social media sites for the rest of us to see the next day. Fun times!

What’s on for the weekend friends? Anything exciting? I think I want a lie-down and a rest. Being a blogger is also pretty tiring.

  1. Oh it looks like such fun! I agree with all that you've said and smiled through this post. I'm still looking very much forward to meeting you one day Chantelle! My bestie is home from London til Monday so I'm stealing as much time with her as possible til then. Xxx ps. I'm a cheap drunk these days too.

  2. SO much fun! I'm looking forward to a quiet weekend, too much excitement for this mama. Lucky I don't get out that often anymore (or maybe I need to get out more!).

You're so right, I always have the best time when I go out with bloggers. They really are the best.
It was so nice to see you, you're a lovely gorgeous woman. Thanks for a top night! xxx

  3. Hi Chantelle. It sounds like you guys had a great time! I'm pretty new to the blogging thing, but yes, bloggers are definitely a breed of their own and I lurrrve it 🙂 We'll just be ripping up ugly green carpet this weekend, so no, nothing too exciting. Enjoy your rest.

  4. I can so relate to this… I went to my first blogging workshop here in Brisbane (Hello Blogger Event) and it was great for all of those reasons.

And last night I went to a street party with another blogger and we were madly tweeting and instagramming all night and didn't feel rude while playing on iPhone while the other person's talking. (Plus we had to keep stopping to do updates and the like!)

  5. I can really feel your joy and excitement reading this as if you were right here talking to me. It's put a little smile on my face as it wipes away some of the negative things I have heard in the past about blogging events.

Love your blog Chantelle…a quick read (which is fantastic because I don't get too much time to read), to the point and very powerful =)

  6. Bloggers are definitely all sorts of awesome. I'm cut that I won't be able to make Blogopolis, so I have to wait until October to catch up with everyone at ProBlogger! I hope you're going to that Telle, you're the number one blogger I want to meet (and don't you and Dani look gorgeous!).

  7. So much fun! I'm glad it was a hoot, and that you have warm fuzzies all round as a result of a wonderful night.

Sorry about the hangover though. On a school night too.

    Ouch, that's hard!

    xx

  8. Congratulations Chantelle the event went beautifully!! I wish there was more time in the night for a chat. Oh well, plenty of chances for THAT.

But oh MY, I met some people I've been dying to meet for ages and laughed so hard. You know who I LOVE? Lynda from PPMJ's. So great.

  9. Bloggers are good people.. it seems like I've found better friends over blogging than in real life… people with a little more substance?? 🙂

Looks like you had fun, I wish they had something like this around me!!!

  10. OMG, I totally identify with your points 2 and 3! Love them. Sometimes its odd to realize that some of blogging people get sides of me that my day to day friends will never understand, especially when you realize that they hover in this weird realm of the known stranger…

  11. Just found your blog through Pinterest and i am loving it! This weekend I will be haning out wit ha good friend causing trouble (which means sipping on wine at her house and playing videogames lol!) Maybe I'll get some craftiness done too!

  12. This is awesome! I love the blogging community- even though I'm relatively new, it is so inclusive and warm and like we're already friends. You said it so well.
But I have to ask, what is seedy?

  13. Number two is why I love blogging and interacting online so much. My husband hates computers, social networks and the like – I'd go as far as to call him a technophobe but he does love other technical stuff! Also, I find it hard to make friends, especially living in a different country now and blogging has opened my eyes to friendships I would never have expected to have (or hoped).

Have a fantastic weekend, Chantelle and I'm glad you only had a teeny-weeny hangover after the party! <3

  14. Sounds like a blast! I get what you mean…yesterday I went to the Digital Parents conference and it was like I was home…I felt like I didnt have to answer questions, nor take on the weird looks, nor have to wonder what I am really about!
Bloggers are the bomb, and yep we do share too much. But that is what I love!

  15. Well, that must be an exciting bloggers unite event, Chantelle. TFS.
For me, I had a great weekend. Hubby and dd decided to give mum a big surprise by going to a retreat in Cameron Highlands. It was a little over 2 years since we last visited CH and yet there are little surprises in store. As always I took hundreds of photos and some will be shared on my blog, at flying unicorn and the rest when I create layouts and share wherever challenges beckon me. In other words I had my real big R&R which I had been lamenting in my mind all along.

  16. I'm slowly building up my lovely online space and my new blogging community. I'm yet to meet IRL blogger friends but hopefully thatll come soon enough. I love these points you've put on here!
