Sit-ups & sprints… oh my!

{source}

After we got married and before I fell pregnant I used to love exercising. Actually I might not have loved it, but I did a fair bit of it. I used to exercise most mornings, and a handful of personal training sessions each week too.

I’d run from Bondi to Bronte non-stop {with my personal trainer leading the way, making me too scared to even contemplate a quick breather}. I’d even spend my weekends finding new walking paths, through various suburbs.

I used to write in a forum a fair bit back then too, so we’d check in and say what exercise we’ve done each day. Below was a typical day of exercise, with a walk or run thrown in on top:

Now my exercise revolves around newsagents. I bribe myself to go for a walk with the lure of a newsagent stop somewhere in between. I do love my magazines. There are newsagents scattered all over Bondi, so it quite works.

I’ve been getting back into exercising of late. Not the sprints and sit-ups just yet, but walking more. The bonus is that Lacey quite likes being in the pram {she didn’t for soooo long} so it’s treat for us to go out for a walk. Yesterday I decided to take a path I hadn’t traveled before, because I knew it had hills and would be a hard one. Of course there was a newsagent pit-stop somewhere thrown in too.

OMG. It was the hardest walk ever. I was red like a beetroot for about 3 hours afterwards. So hard! I am kinda excited to do it again though…

What exercise have you done today?

  1. Last night, even though the weather was cr*ppy, I got out and walked / jogged for 30 mins. I have been promising myself to get out walking (so that I can build up to running again) for about 5 or 6 weeks and I keep finding excuses to put it off. Last night I did it and I was so glad that I did because tomorrow night it will be easier to do it again. (Tonight we have training so I don't have to walk/jog by myself).

So glad to hear that you got out there and did it – never mind looking like a beetroot for 3 hrs afterwards – it is all good !

    Have a great day !

  2. I DO THE SAME THING!

Our newsagent is down the street, as is my PO Box so everyday I make the walk down there with Aidan.

Everyday I've been working out on the treadmill once Aidan goes down for a nap.

  3. Yay! Exercise always releases the happy endorphines even when the thought of it makes you tired. I have started doing dance classes again after so many years and I LOVE it. Zumba is also good. The music is loud and you cant help but smile during the workout.

I am red for about 3 hours also! Nothing stops it!

  4. Oh Chantelle, if I lived in Sydney I would love to help you get fit! So good to hear you are getting excited about walking with Lacey. My girls are the same..ages until they like the pram. x

  5. I think it's really hard as a mum with young children to get in some good exercise. Good on you for doing it. Have to say that it's easier as my children have grown up a bit. Today the last one went back to school/preschool – whew! I went to the gym, where my PT got me doing weights I would NEVER do on my own – not ever!

  6. I walked through the carpark at Chatswood and got my eyebrows waxed. I did some bicep curls (picked up shoes and put them back) then I walked back to the car.

  7. Last night I finished week three of c25k. I've never been a runner so it's kicking my ass. I'm grateful for my hubby though who listened to all my excuses last night and then told me to put on my sneakers and get out the damn door.

I bought a mag to reward myself today, too. We must make these things worth our while!

  8. I have just started exercising after 2 years of pretending. I am doing Michelle Bridges 12 WBT like so many around here. Its weird to actually be looking forward to exercising and missing it if you cant do it !

  9. I try to do something every day even if it's a little walk around the block. Today I did a 16km bike ride to one of my sons favourite playgrounds – he likes to sit on the bike seat. I also run with the pram once or twice a week. Well done on the walk today!

  10. Love that pic!
No exercise today, but the bag is packed and clothes out ready to be at the gym at 6am tomorrow morning. SO don't want to go, but really, really need to go. I'll feel better afterwards. Right? RIGHT?
You go get that hill, girl! Soon it will only turn you into a tomato for 1 hour afterwards.

  11. I love that end of a long hard walk feeling! My little guy has a pretty serious dislike for the stroller too. I might just keel over from carrying him in the baby bjorn everywhere one of these days.

  12. good work! I find it's the getting back into it is the hardest thing! I joined a new gym this year that has a zumba class everyday and loads and loads of classes all day and until 8pm at night! it has a pool and a dedicated yoga studio, some weeks I only get there twice a week but it's been the best thing and even if I feel a bit lazy I go and do aqua or a little workout and make the most of the break from my 4

good for you! you have some gorgeous places to walk over there and it's good for the thinking too

    corrie;)

  13. I am sure I posted on here yesterday. No idea what I said but good on you for getting into the exercise. I am also trying to get more active. 🙂

  14. Awesome work Chantelle. I love walking, though these days I'm a bit stuck, as my eldest likes to dawdle and his little legs don't really walk as far as I'd like to. So I have to schedule my walks/runs in when hubby is around to look after the boys. We are spoilt for choice in the East. I love the coastal walk, so many beautiful beaches to pass… and plenty of newsagents too! I've gotta get back into my fitness asap, I've been sick for a while and the momentum kind of died off.
