October photo a day challenge list: Come & play!

Hello! Hello! Hello!

I know I say this every month, but seriously how fast are these months flying by? They’re turning into a blur of photos and prompts for me. What about you?

So last month I introduced a new hashtag for the project – #FMSphotoaday – to hopefully make things easier. Some loved it, some didn’t {and that’s okay – it happens with anything}. If you want to sort your photos into months, then please feel free to add the month to the hashtag – #FMSphotoadayOCT. I’ll just be using #FMSphotoaday.

This month I’m going to try something new. I’m going to pick 4 photos I love each day and share them in my feed. They’ll be selected from the #FMSphotoaday hashtag.

Now on to next month’s list.

For those that are new to the photo a day game, here’s how you play. Oh and anyone is welcome to join. The more the merrier!

1. Look at the list for the day.
2. Take a photo according to the prompt. eg. Day one you’d take a photo of where you stood.
3. Upload your photo to whichever platform you like {or a few}. like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr etc. I love Instagram best but share on all of them.
4. If you’re sharing on Instagram or Twitter add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday
5. Check out other people’s photos.

A lot of people share on my Facebook page too. Just upload a photo straight onto my wall. Visit my Facebook page here.

Here’s a little about each prompt, in case you’re wondering. BUT there are really no rules, however you interpret the prompt is perfect!

1. Where you stood: Take a photo of where you’re standing.
2. Lunchtime: Take a photo of your lunch, or around you at lunchtime.
3. This happened today: What’s something that happened today? Shoot it and share it.
4. What you read: Did you read a sign? Are you reading a book? A blog? Shoot and share.
5. Shadow: Take a photo of your shadow or any shadow.
6. I’m thankful for…: What are you thankful for today? It can be simple or BIG. Share it.
7. Light: You can shoot sunflare, a streetlight, light from the sun… any kind of light.
8. Angle: Look at angles in buildings, structures, books, anything. Find an angle and take a photo.
9. Red: Take a photo of something red.
10. Emotion: Happy. Sad. Angry. Overjoyed and so on and so forth. Be creative.
11. Something close-up: These photos might be a little mysterious. Take a photo of something really close-up.
12. On the table: Last month we did table, but this month let’s do ON the table. What’s on your table?
13. Landscape: Take a photo of the skyline, a landscape you see.
14. Makes you laugh: What’s something funny that makes you laugh. Share it.
15. Dinnertime: Just like lunchtime, only later. Take a picture of what dinnertime is like on this day for you.
16. Something you wrote: Take a photo of something you wrote or drew.
17. Fruit: Take a photo of a piece of fruit, or a few.
18. Made you smile today: What made you smile today? Find it. Shoot it. Share it.
19. Letters: Take a photo of letters. They might make up a poster, or something bigger. Or even be mail?
20. 4 o’clock: Take a photo a 4am or 4pm – whatever you’re doing at that time.
21. Calm: Take a photo of something that makes you feel calm, or represents calm.
22. In your town: Take a photo of something from where you live. It might be a building, people, park or something else.
23. The view from here: Take a photo of your view from where you are. It might be your office, your home, traveling. The everyday can sometimes be very interesting.
24. Weather: Take a photo of the weather today. Let’s travel around the world with everyone’s weather photos.
25. People: It might be people you know or people you don’t. Take a photo of people.
26. Listening to: What are you listening to? Music? Children laughing? Share it.
27. Morning: Take a photo of your morning.
28. Looking back: Take a photo of something from your past, or from just behind you. Look back and take a photo.
29. Moon: The moon is just about full tonight. Take a photo.
30. Clothes: Take a photo of clothes. Perhaps what you’re wearing, or in your wardrobe, on a mannequin or otherwise.
31. Whatever you please: Are you celebrating Halloween tonight? Perhaps take a photo of that. Today is free choice – take a photo of ANYTHING you like.

As always this will kick off on the first day of October. So put your creative hats on and get ready to play. x

I love your idea of choosing 4 photos you love each day, but I noticed your only choosing from #FMSphotoaday hashtag. Does this mean your only choosing the ones you love from Instagram? Not everyone uses Instagram….maybe you could choose the 4 from Instagram, your Facebook page and the Monthly event page so everyone can be included??? Just an idea :)

  2. Linda says

I think I’m back in this month…I skipped September because it was such a busy month for me! I’m curious how you’re going to share the 4 photos, are you going to wait until the whole world has had that day? Because your day is over before mine even begins…

  3. Bia Hain says

Hello, I began to participate in the challenge in September and I think the pictures say it changed my daily routine for the better. My mind is always in motion and when the photo everything is quiet, lightweight, and I needed a lot of it. Congratulations on your initiative, will be attending the October challenge for sure. I have posted on my blog (O mirante da imagem) and shared in twetter. Also like to see the photo of the other participants.

    A hug, great week!

Ok – I’m really excited about this!! I’m a total novice but I’m also totally up for the challenge. Now to decide where to share the photos….

  9. Guest says

I am definitely taking part in this! Let’s see if I get all of the 31 photos taken. :) I will be posting them to my blog, if not daily then as a bunch every now and then. :)

  10. Guest says

Looks like a lot of fun! Plan to start participating tomorrow, Oct. 1. Would like to know if it is okay to post your list (the graphic which also includes your name) on my blog. I would definitely link the list graphic to your website. Also, I’m feeling like I’ll be “cheating” because I plan to use a regular camera, not a camera phone, and I’ll just be posting on my blog–not Twitter, FB, Instagram, etc. Please tell me I’m not the only one “kickin’ it old school.”

been faithfully doing this since… April :D and i’m starting on the second, and it’s perfect because i’ll be visiting this italian restaurant with my friends for lunch! :) excited! :D

  15. L. says

I took part in this challenge in April and it was a wonderful chance to get my camera out. The poor thing has been gathering dust again for most of the summer and I feel like I really need to do something positive so picking up the challenge once again seemed like the most obvious solution. I will be sharing on Tumblr (want-to-be-better.tumblr.com/tagged/fmsphotoaday or /photo-a-day).
Thank you for putting together such an interesting challenge!

Hey Chantelle, Thanks for doing this each month. I love it.. month # 6 for me! Not sure if I like when you post new topics or repeats that force the creativity…great job :)

  17. Kerry says

I started three months late into this project, (OCD, must start at the beginning of the year! lol.) I have been following your blog and pinning. I plan on doing this next year! Such a great idea, and your lists are amazing! Thank you so much! Are you going to try to make a list for next year as well?

  18. @StilettoFotog says

Hi Chantelle — I don’t know where I’ve been all this time, but I JUST discovered your fun photo challenge today! I actually posted my first photo a few minutes ago & am looking forward to many more. For a photography artist like me, this will help to continue honing my skills, and challenge me daily in a creative way. Thank you for your concept! Why didn’t I think of it?!?! LOL

  19. tammylee86 says

Jumping in here on the 19th. Only doing IG for now, not sure if I want to do FB and Twitter. Thank you for this photo a day challenge!

  20. Yvonne says

I have been taking a photo a day in October after my friend on Facebook said she was doing it and who would like to join her. I’ve had a lot of fun looking at the title each day (or the day before so I know what title to have in my head the next morning) and because I love taking photos, it hasn’t been a hardship at all! I’ve just clicked on to your blog and I have to read more, but from what you’re saying, there seems to be a photo a day *every* month? Is that right? And is there somewhere we send the full album to at the end? Yvonne x
