Mascara Mayhem.

M

y mascara has mysteriously disappeared. At one stage it felt like I had about six on the go, and now I have none. I think a little person may be stashing them away somewhere where a mama person can’t find them.

I need to buy myself a new one, and pronto. But first, I thought I’d consult the people in the know, you guys. There are so many out there, and my head spins in circles {it’s a sight, trust me} when gazing at all the different wands and their lash extending promises.
So, which mascara do you use? Why do you love it?

My lashes thank you in advance. x

  1. I have tried them ALL!!! (It seems.) Lashes are my thing and I have learned to never stray away from the old tried and true. Loreal Voluminous. About $9 and the sh*t. It works. Long and thick. Just how I like them. Lashes, that is…dirty girl!

  2. Most Maybelline mascaras are really good. Except the new one in the bright yellow tube that sucked me into buying it with its bright, bright packaging! Turned out clumpy 🙁

Maybelline Full n' Soft is good.

    And waterproof. Always waterproof!

  3. Chanel mascara is by FAR the best I've used ever. Ever. It's a bit exxy though, a good everyday one is Benefit as is the Loreal one with the undercoat at one end the mascara at the other.

The brush on the mascara end is terrible though, all it does is clump.

  4. In order of how much I am able to spend my favourites are
    1. Diorshow – about $50 at DJ's but I usually buy on strawberrynet for around $35 (at that price it's definitely one to be kept away from curious little fingers)
    2. MAC Zoom lash – that's around $25 so pretty reasonable
    3. Loreal Lash Architect – can't remember exactly how much it's around the $20 mark and is my “convenient” mascara because I can get it from the supermarket.

  5. Diorshow all the way!!! I have big batty lashes, and am naked without eyeliner & mascara – and this one is my tried & true best friend x
But I do loooove floating around the DJ's makeup dept whenever I get to take a trip to the big city and looking at all the pretty colours! xx

  6. Mascara is the one thing (besides clothes and shoes!) that I never leave the hosue without. I feel naked without it on.

    My two favourites are:

Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils by YSL
    and
    Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara.

  7. Just got sucked in via the package to the estee lauder with the motorised wand….didn't realise until I got home that it had the battery in in the end etc (my sales girl wasn't exactly helpful)….but overall not very impressed with the mascara and can't work out what the added benefit of the battery in the wand is ….definately not value for money…should have gone with the diorshow.

  8. Chanel all the way…ahhh-mazing! or if I get too confuzzled in the makeup aisle I always grab the pink/green tube of maybeline…brilliant!

Looks like you need a mama's only drawer..with a key! xo

  9. Maybelline Great Lash – that one with the pink body and green lid. My older sister used it religiously in the early nineties when I used to steal it for my Barbies. So retro and I have returned to it recently to discover it is actually quite good!

  10. I have two. Clinique High Lengths Mascara and Maybelline Great Lash (the green and pink tube). The Clinique is really good as it has a comb, rather than a brush and the Maybelline has been a favourite of mine for years. The Clinique is about $38.00.

PS. Check out http://www.makeupalley.com for makeup reviews….I check all the makeup I'm going to purchase there first.

    xxx

  11. MAX FACTOR and yes I am screaming it at you because I have tried and tested so many mascaras and it really is THE best 🙂 well for me anyway!!!
I have quite long lashes and most mascaras melt on my upper eye lids during the day and this one doesn't plus it doesn't clump and makes them look really full.

  12. I've used Revlon's Lash Fantasy Lengthening & Thickening mascara since about 2005. It seems to last a long time. You get a primer to help thicken the lashes first, then apply the mascara. Not waterproof though – which doesn't bother me, but might you.

    Good luck!

  13. Sooo many to chose from! My eyelashes are short and fine so i go for lengthening and thickening mascaras. Givenchy phenomenon eye with makeup forever smoky eyes. Both. Together. Try it!
You could do the same effect with lash Blast and Diorshow

  14. I love any Nutrimetics mascaras or the Maybelline.

I usually hang out of the sales with Nutrimetics though. They are about $30 full price but there is usually a sale a few times a year where they are about $10 each. I stock up big time then!

I used to go waterproof but it's such a bugger to get off, I never go waterproof now.

  15. DONT GO FOR THE VIBRATING MASCARA!
I purchased it myself cause I am a sucker for something new and it adds no value to the mascara application whatsoever. It costs more so please dont be stupid like me – save your money and go for an old classic!

  16. I LOVE Diorshow. It's $50 from Myer and DJs but epharmacy (Aussie site) sell it for $29 and it posts the next day. I love it! If you haven't tried epharmacy, you should give it ago.

  17. I've been reading your blog for a little while now, Chantelle, and I've never commented – but I must this time, because I am 110% a Maybelline Full 'n Soft Waterproof mascara fan. I will never ever switch!

I can't comprehend how non-waterproof mascaras can even exist – how can you not use waterproof? Comes off easy with face scrub and makeup remover (of which I prefer Johnson & Johnson wipes), or just the remover, at the end of the day!

  18. Lancome. I've used various ones of these and they all pretty much look amazing!

Although now I'm using Prescriptives (Plush Brown 02) which I got for our wedding last year from Mecca and I'm pretty happy with that.

    They're my two recommendations!

  19. I am probably running a bit late with this… but for luxe… Chanel Exceptional (i think that is the one) but it is fantastic and for under $15 the god ole pink and green maybeline one… i can never remember what it is called…

  20. I second the Max Factor 2000 Calorie.. but would like to add that I never buy it here in Aus.. always brand new on eBay from the US.. heaps cheaper, usually around AUD $11 including postage 😉

  21. Loreal voluminous…I've used it for 10+ years. I always go back to it. People are always asking me what kind of mascara I use 🙂

  22. I have recently been converted from Diorshow to an Avon mascara.
I have been a loyal diorshow user for a good 3-4 years, up until recently when my lifestyle (and financial situation) changed. I now use Avon's SuperCurlacious Mascara which in my opinion, is comparable to Diorshow and leaves me with beautiful fluttery lashes.
I know i'm late in responding (sorry!)

  23. Estee Lauder has this mascara that I just love. I told some of my friends about it and they swore it was the best thing EVER 🙂
I haven't worn makeup in the longest time. It's like, when I started gaining weight, I just gave up on every pretty thing in my life…
I am going to go and get some tomorrow at the cvs : )

  24. I use mirenesse secret weapon Mascara. It is a 24 hr mascara. It is free form alchol, sulphates, propylene glyvcol, mineral oil, petrolatum and is cruelty free. It is also contact lens safe (which I love) and can be used on sensitive eyes. It is made form panthol and organic waxes. It sets in 3 minutes and washes off with just water (no panda eyes either)
    TVSN and mirenesse.com sell it.

    I just love it!

  25. Adalita, I second the mirenesse secret weapon – it's amazing! I only just got it as a gift, and having just purchased about 4 new mascaras from a trip to Japan I was a little frustrated (you know what they say, when it rains, it pours!)

Anyway, I decided to try this mascara one day, and am yet to unpackage the 3 remaining Japanese mascaras as this is incredible!

It comes off sooo easily, and it makes my eyelashes even longer – love it!

  26. I love DiorShow too, I stock up big when overseas – never pay retail! Good to know that Strawberry.net have it discounted, I will have to check that out as I've run out of DiorShow and am currently using some Clinique sample, which is also very good but I'm too lazy to go upstairs to check what it is 🙂

Hope you found the right one for you.
