Dear Roxie

Brought to you by Nissan X-TRAIL.Front Badge Water Zoomed OutDear Roxie,We’ve been everywhere together. From the beach, to the bush, to the supermarket and on a gazillion school runs. I’ve laughed in you, cried in you, danced and sung in you. It’s been a joyful ride, but now it’s time to say goodbye…I’m going to miss you,Chantelle.

Ah, I’m writing this post feeling a little disgruntled. It’s time for my days with Roxie to come to an end, and I’m not very happy about it. I have to be honest.

I want to keep her.

When Roxie the Nissan X-TRAIL arrived, we’d not long bought a new car ourselves. We have tunnel vision when buying cars. We know what we want and we just go and get it. Too many options make us a little bit batty.

But now I have buyers remorse. Hubby loves our other car, but I love Roxie.

I’ve shared blog posts in the past on where we’ve traveled to in Roxie, what I love about cars and other tales, but today I wanted to do a frank blog post {a review as such} on what I loved about her, and one thing I’m not sure would work for some families {but as always, there’s a solution}.

Here’s what I’ll miss:

+ Easy connectivity to my phone. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong with my other car, but it never recognises my phone. Roxie does. I don’t have to pair it every time I get in, and I play the iTunes Unwind Radio Station all day, erryday. It’s my favourite. Also the screen is really discreet and modern. It matters.

+ Navigation System. When we bought our other car, the salesman talked us out of getting a navigation system because he said we’d never use it. I use it all the time in Roxie. Now, I’m never going to know where I’m going. Annoying.

+ The sunroof. I love that natural light. And the fresh air.

+ The boot. The way that boot separates into so many different compartments, and has that awesome cover. I’m just going to miss that big time.

camera+ The 360 around view monitor. It gives a birds eye view of your car. I love it particularly when I’m going into a parking spot, and instead of opening the door and seeing how close I am to the lines, I just put on the camera and see where I am. It also made me feel safe reversing around home and school, with little people around. I always freak out I’m going to not see a little person, but the camera stops that freak out.

+ Automatic windscreen wipers. You can put your wipers on auto, and it will sense when it rains or water hits your windscreen and put them on accordingly. That should be compulsory on every car, so people don’t have to worry about rain, and wipers and visibility.

+ The little extras. Seat warmers. Leather-accented seats which survived various food smooshes, because I’m not very good at enforcing that no food in the car rule. The blind spot warning system. The easy-to-use Cruise Control {honestly, I saved myself from so many of those council speed cameras using that}. The motion sensor activated tailgate {I’m going to miss freaking people out that our boot opens by itself}. And fuel efficiency. My pet hate is putting petrol in cars, and I quite liked that it was a long time between drinks with Roxie.

+ Perhaps the thing I’ll miss most… the drink holders that keeps your drink cool in summer and keeps your drink warm in winter.

And as mentioned above, I wanted this to be a really honest review. So while I loved every aspect of Roxie, the only potential problem I had was that if you had a family of five, with 3 small children who needed seats, it might post a problem. There are three anchor points, but I’m not sure it would easily fit three boosters side-by-side. We didn’t try, but it looked a little squeezy {maybe because Lulu has a seat with big protective cushions, and Lacey’s seat is huge too}. If you had two boosters, and one child out of a booster, that wouldn’t be a problem at all {we had adults in the back between the baby seats}. For bigger families there is a 7 seat X-TRAIL variant available if you’ve procreated more than I have}.

So that’s it. My time is Roxie is coming to an end, and I feel a bit down about it.

I’m quietly hoping that they pull one of these on me:

  1. Hi Chantelle, I know how you feel! I bought my Nissan XTrail in red based on your initial review way back. I’d driven my Grandma Car with 7 seats – could fit 3 car seats easily for 7 years & when it was time for MY NEW CAR, I test drove the XTrail & now it’s mine. I still can fit 3 car seats in back for the odd times I’m back in Sydney being grandma again. BEST CAR IVE EVER OWNED in over 35 years PS keep it! Ok I said so! Denyse

  2. I’m looking for a new car (from a distance in the attempt to exercise some self control). I’ve always had a hatchback but I now really want a SUV now that we’ll have a little one joining us soon. My husband is the car person so I tell him thing I want or that are important to me and he does the research and comes up with options (it’s like a game for him!). I am loving the sounds of the X Trail from all your posts. It’s definitely a contender if it can meet the husband’s power test – he’s fussy about cars needing a certain amount of power. I could care less!

  3. Now I’ve read that I want a Roxie. I sold ‘Blue Beauty’ (a 4wd) for Madge (an MG) but my knees were cranky so now I have Suzi a car in between. I’m definitely going back to an SUV when it’s time for another car and I want all the bells n whistles of Roxie! Music connectivity and those cup holders…awesome
