BLOGversation: Setting Goals.

I

am big on setting goals. It’s just something that I’ve always done – either in my head, written in list form at the start of every year or by the way of a vision board. It’s not an aggressive thing I do, it’s more because I like knowing where I’m headed and it comforts me to have a plan. Plus I like writing lists. I’m kinda addicted.

My blog never really had a plan. It was sorta a diary, and then it became an addiction and now it kinda has a life of it’s own {although it’s been a little sleepy of late}.
I often get letters from people wanting to know many things about blogging but the main topics are:
1. Can you help me get a writing gig?
2. Can you help me design my blog?
3. How can I be a professional writer?
The truth is, I have no answers. I’m not a writer. I have no connections. I can’t design to save my life. I kinda fumble my way through blogging.
I kinda {wow, how many times can I write that in a post?} got a little side-tracked there… but today I wanted to ask the bloggers among us: What’s your blogging goal? What do you hope to achieve through blogging?
And if you don’t have a blog, I’d love to hear if you set goals in your life. Do you set goals for yourself to achieve?
I’m looking forward to taking a sneak peek into your minds. x

  1. Hi Chantelle! I guess the point of my blog is to share some of the fantastic things I come across whilst working on my little styling business.
    There are so so so many creative, talented, inspiring people out there I created the blog to store/share the things I love.
    Also, I guess to give clients an insight into who I am and what my design aesthetic is.
    xxj
    p.s you coming on Thursday night?

  2. I don't have a blogging goal. I am not a great goal setter, but my next Goal in life would be gegtting Married. We have been together 6years and 2kids so its about time!!

  3. MMM goals I think they change weekly.
    My blogging goal is to try to be consistent and be able to write things that people want to read. I also aim to re-design my blog to incorporate my new business, but that's on my 2011 goal list.

    My life goals, beside getting said business running successfully, is to shed the extra kgs as well as the excuse baggage that it seems to come with.
    In between all this I aim to be the best mum I can be, oh and to breath as well!!!!

  4. I don't have any blog goals right now, (although posting something today would be a good start) but I have a writing goal to try to finish one of the pieces I have been writing and submit it to a magazine.
    Other life goals are to complete my degree which I have completed one year of and then it took a back seat during this pregnancy because my brain fell out.
    So the article first then being supermum and then the degree.
    I also love a good list and a vision board.

  5. I'm a goal setter, that is just my personality, helping me to suck all the marrow out of this life.

    My goal with blogging was to keep friends and family up to date but also to give people who were looking to travel with their family a point of reference because when I was researching for our around the world journey the information was really hard to find – almost like the adventurers were all still in their loungerooms.

    Now we are back home the goal is just to get the travel stories posted so it can be made into a book.

  6. I don't have a goal with my blog really but my blog does help me to push myself to create more often. If no one knew the things I sewed I probably wouldn't get as much done as I do now. Having my blog to be able to share my creations pushes me to finishes things so that I can share them with my bloggy friends.

    One thing blogging has shown me is that I would love to do a course in how to design websites and blogs and do all that html, css, coding mumbo jumbo that is only a bunch of crazy letters to me now. I have been researching them online and have just been waiting for a good time to enrol in one. The one I wanna do at tafe is on when I am in Europe next year so I have to wait.

  7. The goal of my blog is to keep me honest & focused in my aim to keep my family and myself fit and healthy. It's also a journal to record events & my feelings. It's also a way to keep my brain active since I am a SAHM!

    I am a big personal goal setter, in fact in my study I have two vision boards!

  8. i started blogging properly about 6 mths ago, and to be honest i started to get myself out there {ledamae} but didn't realize there was this little community of blogging people who share their thought's, life's and home's and everything in between, it makes me feel connected…….so my goal started to get myself out there but along the way have come across blogs like this one, that often challenge me…..make me think from a different angle and like you i love to know how poeple think {what makes one tick}
    and goals yup i love being able to tick a goal off and move onto the next {i started this from very early on}
    become hairdresser {tick}
    become a sales rep {tick}
    manage a retail store {tick}
    and the list goes on……..my dad was a motivational speaker and helped people to set goals and tap into their full potential, look now i'm rambling…….hehe
    i loved this post have a great day, btw you looked fantastic in your wedding photo lisa xx

  9. Chantelle – I saw a comment you left on BYW and it attracted me to your blog ! And now I got sidetracked with all the interesting things you have going on here ! I have to run now, but I will for sure be back. So, stop worrying about the goals for your blog – you are already achieving big time !! I'll be back, Ilze

  10. Hello, when I started my blog it was to keep a record of my life so my daughter could know a bit what it was like for me when I had her. But in actuality, it's become so much more important as an outlet for me. I guess my goal for the blog is to turn it into something I can be proud of. In life … I am pretty hopeless at setting goals, specific goals that are tenable are the ones all the super successful people seem to have. Mine are more vague like 'being happy'!

  11. Well, first my goal was just to make my blog. Now my goal is to write for it and keep up with all the little things that you can't really know about blogging until you actually start!

    I love making goals. I call them “dreamlines”. I always have a mixture of really outrageous, seemingly impossible goals and more short term and acheivable ones.

    Love your blog, will visit often x

  12. I have blog goals,I have writing goals, I have weight loss goals, I have life goals, I have family goals.

    Chantelle, I am just starting to put together my “life map” for next year….vision board images are the best bit.

    And I thank you for all your inspiration. xx
