A day in the life of a 31 year-old

It is true. I turned 31 yesterday. And while I thought I didn’t want fuss or fanfare, it turns out a little bit is just fine {and a whole lot of lovely}. I snapped away on my special day, and now I’m sharing it with you…

Wake up time! Lacey has an ear infection so there wasn’t much sleep involved. But hey, what’s new?

I got ready for the day listening to my current favourite song {someone like you : adele} & scooted Lacey off to Kindy so I could head off to a work meeting. Of course I stopped in for a Monday magazine purchase.

And then I was off, via the scenic route. We really do live in a beautiful part of the world {can you tell I was wearing my happy pants on my birthday? Everything was sunshiney and wonderful}.

I got lost and was late for the meeting {a whole 2 minutes}. I hate being late. But I had my sunshine-y attitude on, so all was well.

Once the meeting was over and done with, my lovely workmates serenaded me and presented me with the most delicious ricotta cheesecake the world has ever seen. I’ll be going back here and grabbing one for whenever the next occasion calls for it. I hope it’s soon.

Home time! Not a cloud in the sky for my birthday. Lucky me!

I wore my favourite cardigan to celebrate my day of days. As you do.

I love snail mail, especially on my birthday. My letterbox was filled with lovely cards. People have such great timing, don’t they?

A lonesome {but I love lonesome!} lunch {sandwich on soft white bread} and a little bit of trash TV while I work. Bliss.

And work. I’m thinking of emailing Julia Gillard and proposing that we all have our birthdays off from work. Doesn’t that sound about right? Can’t believe nobody has thought of it before.

Don’t mind if I do! My favourites are the hazelnut coated chocolates {no praline though, please}.

Hubby was stuck at work so I scooted off to pick up Lacey as the sun went down.

I get so excited walking up this path. Lacey gets equally excited as she spots me walking into the room {every time!}. It’s one of my favourite moments ever, catching her unawares and interacting.

Hubby arrived home just as Lacey and I did, and then we headed off to Ma’s for dinner with my Big Sis. They spoilt me. Candles everywhere, 80’s music playing and the yummiest food. Hubby picked up this cake for me. He told me it just turned out they had a cake out the back with my name on it. Lucky!

Chocolate fudge cake with vanilla biscuits scattered throughout. I’m all caked out! Seriously, there’s such a thing!

And home again, jiggety jig. Being 31 is pretty rad. Or cowabunga even.

When is your birthday? How do you plan on spending your next special day?

  2. Oh Happy Birthday! When I was 31, I was giving birth to my first bub, who is now almost 14! It seems like just yesterday. Time flies… enjoy every precious, youthful moment. A-M xx

  3. Looks like you had a lovely day!

I agree – birthdays off every year. Mine always fell in school holidays, so it was a rude shock to get into the workforce and have to work on my birthday!

Another 10 days and I'll be joining you in being 31!

  4. My birthday is at the end of January and is usally the first day that school (and my work) resumes 🙁

If things go to plan I may celebrate next birthday with a baby on board.

Glad you had such a lovely day

  5. What an awesome day! Made all the better by the sunshiney attitude 🙂 I hope my 31st birthday will be just like that – although i suspect it's going to be more like A-M's (having a baby! – due 10 days after my birthday)

  6. Happy Birthday!

What a lovely day, this is my ideal birthday, besides the having to work! 😉

Cake twice in one day! Bloody awesome! I thought only I did that?

  7. Happy Birthday Chantelle!

I never believe those people who say they don't want any fuss whatsoever on their birthdays. Everyone wants a little bit 😉

  8. Happy Birthday Chantelle!!!! Sounds like you had a fabulous day with your loved ones. Hope you got spoilt with love and gifts xoxo My 30th Birthday is tomorrow (22nd June). Not really looking forward to it though. My father in-law just got diangnosed with liver cancer and he had his first dose of chemo today. So I think my birthday is going to be a quiet one with hubby and Miss 2. Thanks for sharing your lovely day 🙂

  9. I turned 31 in May, welcome to the cool club! I have a Birthday week and take a week or a few days off work for my Birthday and relax and enjoy myself. Looks like you had a fantastic day, with friends and family that mean the most to you by your side xxx Happy Belated Birthday!

  10. What a lovely day and what a great way of showing it! Love the blog as always but this was such an original idea and I so enjoyed reading about how you spent your first day of 31 years of age! I am sadly 32 and even more sadly I forgot how old I was when my 2-year-old asked me yesterday! HA!

  11. Happy Birthday Chantelle! Looks like a ripper of a day… and I know the sun shone beautifully yesterday, what a lovely pressie :o)
Enjoyed your day in pictures, fab idea! Some seriously tasty looking sweets too, Mmmmm!
And I adore that song by Adele, she is brilliant.
Hope Lacey is feeling all better now xo

  12. Happy Birthday for yesterday! It looks like you had a fab birthday…two cakes, who gets to have a ricotta cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake on their birthday!!! All I can say is where's my slice 😉

My birthday is NYE, hubby's is NY Day and my daughter is 4 days after that…so we have a busy few days celebrating our birthdays 😉

  13. Great post – I love it!

Oh, and happy birthday – glad you had a good day and that it didn't pass without candles and cake.

  14. awwww happy birthday you young thing! looks like you had a lovely day. I had to make my own cake this year as retro daddy was flat out at work which was a bit crappy so I'll make sure next year he is more organised!!!

  15. Happy Belated Birthday! 🙂 Love your cardi and that cake looked scrumptious!

Next Tuesday I will celebrate my 32nd birthday! It will be my first birthday as a Mummy! <3. I think it's just going to be a quiet one.
I do however have a pamper day planned for this saturday. It's never too early to celebrate one's birthday – heck, I think we should all have a birthday week! 😀

  16. One of my friends has a theory (she's pretty kooky) that prime number years are the best years so enjoy being 31!

    Happy birthday!
