Moments

I love my kids, I do. But {yes, there’s always a but} I do miss time to myself. I miss having a shower without someone appearing to ask pressing questions like, “Mum, how do you spell contagious?”

I know my husband is wise and tells me to lock the door, but what if they burn down the house while I’m showering? What if they decide to decorate the kitchen with self-raising flour {highly likely} while I’m showering? I need to hear everything.

I do deeply miss the moments before kids. The moments like Sundays where I didn’t have to get out of my PJs all day, and the big decisions involved figuring out what takeout place to order from, and what movie marathon to make my way through, or sometimes if I wanted to, deciding whether I wanted to get up and get dressed and socialise with friends. Ah, those moments.

I wouldn’t trade my kid moments for the world, to be honest, but I do miss those delicious selfish moments where I was the most important person in my life. I do.

Let’s talk about moments though. But I do believe life isn’t about the big things, it’s about all the little moments. Those little moments are life, my friends. They are. You’ve got to appreciate all the little moments of time; the way your child cups her tiny hands around your face, or that look your husband gives you, or even that amazing first taste of the gooey chocolate pudding. THOSE moments.

I’ve learned in my now busy life as a mum, that I might not have all that luxurious time like I did in the past, but I have to make the most of any moments I have. I’ve written about if before, but I do a few things to make the most of the moments I have. {More on that in a moment}.
