March 2013 Photo A Day Challenge list

Hello! Hello! Hello!

March is an exciting month in my family… filled with birthdays and presents and CAKE. And I do love me some cake. And it also means that it’s time to welcome another photo challenge list.

If you’ve never played before and are just stumbling across this {or perhaps a friend of family sent you} – welcome! We’re so happy to have you on board. You can find all the details on how to play below.

And if you’ve played before, you know how it works… but let me just say welcome back!

How to play!

Playing along with photo a day is super easy:
Check out the March photo a day list.
Each day look at the daily prompt and take a photo according to whatever the prompt is. For example for day 1 the prompt is L is for… Pick anything that starts with the letter L and snap it. It’s a great opportunity to get creative. Be inspired by a little creativity and see what you come up with.
Once you’ve taken the photo it’s time to share it. There are loads of places you can share it. See below for more details.
Check out other people’s photos. You can browse through them on my Facebook page, in the FMS Photo A Day Facebook group. Or on Instagram or Twitter just search for the #FMSphotoaday hashtag to see them all.

Where to play?

There are loads of places to be social and share your photos with the #FMSphotoaday community:

Instagram: Just upload your photo, use a fancy filter, add a caption and the hashtag #FMSphotoaday and then share.
Facebook: There are a few options here. You can simply share on your own personal page, among your own friends. Or you can upload to my page’s wall, or I’ve created a Facebook group for 2013. You can join it here:
Blog: If you have a blog, you could share each day or do a wrap up of all the photos at the end of the month.
Tumblr: Add your daily photos to your Tumblr feed.
Flickr: I’ll be playing around more with Flickr in the New Year. You can get their app {for free if I remember correctly} and share your photos there, or upload on their web version. We also have a photo a day group here.
Twitter: You can share on Twitter by uploading the photo and sharing the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. Easy.

How do I remember the prompts?

There are a few ways you can grab the list or remember the prompts:
Come back here each day and click the button on the right-hand side to check out the list.
Right-click on the list above and save it to your desktop. Or if you’re on your phone you could take a screenshot and save it as your wallpaper. {To screenshot click the power button and home button at the same time}.
The very fabulous Doug has created a calendar for us. You can have the prompts added to your phone’s calendar by clicking here. It will open your calendar program and ask if you want to add the calendar. This works on iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Mac and PC. Alternatively you can view the calendar online in your browser here.

What’s the fab four?

Each day I’ll be picking four photos on each Instagram and Facebook that have caught my attention, and sharing them to my Facebook and Instagram. To have your photos in the running you can just share them to my Facebook page or the FMS Photo A Day group or the #FMSphotoaday Instagram feed, or both. It’s not a competition – just a fun way to put the spotlight on some photos from the community.

What do the prompts mean?

There are no rules when playing along with photo a day, you can be creative as you like! Interpret the prompt as you please. For those that need a little help, some more suggested details about each prompt are below:

1. L is for…: Pick something that begins with the letter L and snap it. Love, light… whatever you please.
2. I made this!: Are you a clever clog? Take a photo of something you made. It could be a mess, dinner, something crafty or anything that you made yourself.
3. Key: Take a photo of a key. Be as creative as you can/like.
4. Lucky: Take a photo of something that you use for luck, or something that makes you feel lucky. Or how ever you want to interpret luck!
5. Under: Get down and take a photo of ‘under’. It could be something hiding underneath something, or your perspective from under something.
6. Chair: We see handfuls of them everyday, so why not take a photo?
7. Fear: What are you afraid of? What does fear look like to you?
8. Favourite: Take a photo of something that is your favourite: food, person, place, thing, book…

11. Important: Take a photo of something important in your day today.
12. In the distance: What is that thing that you see far away? A bird? A plane? A small child running away? Capture it as best you can.

14. Tasty: This is the perfect excuse to eat something particularly delicious today, right?
15. Explore: Take a walk and explore where you are today.
16. 9 o’clock: What are you doing at 9am or 9pm today. Share it with us.
17. Green: It’s St Patrick’s Day – find something green.

19. A sign: We pass by them everyday: street signs, shop signs, signs in our homes – what’s the most interesting one you come across today?
20. Clean: What does clean mean to you? The way a person looks? The state of your home? An empty bowl?
21. Working: This could be you working {or at school} or could be something working {functioning as it should}.
22. About you: Share something we don’t know about you. Share a photo and a few sentences.
23. What you do for fun: Do you dance? Read? Play? Tell us in a photo.
24. Up: Take a photo of what you see when you look up, or another interpretation!
25. In your drawer: Give us a sneak peak into what’s in your drawer {kitchen, bedroom, work, bathroom… anywhere}.
26. Something you did: Did you run? Drink something? Wrote something? Talked to someone? Get creative and show it in a photo.
27. Pair: These two things below together, but what are they? Find a pair and take a snap.
28. In the mirror: Take a photo of something reflecting in the mirror. It doesn’t have to be you… get creative.
29. Goodnight: Whatever you do tonight, take a photo of part of it.
30. Relax: What do you do to relax? Share it in a photo.
31. Stuff: Our lives are all filled with some sort of ‘stuff’. What’s your stuff?

Charity & reader prompts:

Our charity prompt this month is SHOES.

For March we’re bringing awareness to CARE Australia, who are helping women living in poverty all over the world. They are embarking on a campaign to get women in Australia walking to raise money for women in countries like Africa who walk long distances everyday, just to get water. The prompt is shoes… so pop yours on and get walking for women the world over. The Walk In Her Shoes challenge runs from 18-24 March. You visit their site for more information and to donate money.

How come it keeps saying “An Indentical Subscribed Calendar account already exists?” when I try to put it on my Iphone calendar? Help!!

    • Kayla – the calendar isn’t ready yet. I put a note: Please note: The prompts will be added in over the day – and I will let everyone know on Facebook when they’re there.

      • Kayla

Doh!! How stupid of me. Haha. Thank you!

  • Stacey

Yay for the shoes prompt 🙂

  • I love the challenge … I just want to check that the link to the calendar by Doug is for March and not Feb. When I imported it .. I think it was Feb and I checked the other link and it was for Feb .

    Thanks again!

    • Hey Bron. There’s a little note under the calendar links that says March isn’t ready yet, but I’ll let everyone know when it is. Doug is a busy man, and we just have to wait until he steals some time. x

      • Bronwyn

Sorry I missed that … After using it last month it made it just so easy to know what the theme was.

        • Bronwyn

I have been recommending the calendar to ppl that are doing the challenge. Brilliant idea.

  • amygeb

So excited to continue doing this for March. I started your photo a day this year and have loved ever minute of it. I have so many friends that just love seeing what my next photo will be. I love thinking about my next photo and as I have progressed I have really tried to think a little bit outside the box. love love love it and hope everyone else gets on board!!!

  • Anne

Do you have the calendar for march?

    • Doug created it last night, but it’s playing up. He’ll be looking into it when he finishes work. So definitely before March is here. 🙂

  • Gertz

I’ve never done a whole month, the closest I got was January (20 days..) I am going to aim for March, but can’t promise a whole month LOL 🙂

  • Shoshana @

This sounds like it might be a great way to force me to blog this month. I’ve been super busy and my blog posts have been sporadic and unimaginative. Does this start on March 1st? That may be an obvious answer but I just want to make sure. Have not participated in one of these before.

  • Hi, I love the photoaday challenge! I’m having some difficulty with adding the Calender for march though. It’s still trying to load Feb?

  • Kelpad

I’ve had soo many comments on my photos. Girlfriends asking what I’m doing…, hopefully some new fmsphotoaday photo takers to follow this month.

  • SuziQoregon

Yay – March 15th will be my 365th day. Celebrating my one year will be fun!

  • Christine K

It says the download prompt failed.

  • Ive loved photography since the start of high school, Im now 31, but after I had my baby 6 months ago I lost my photography “mojo” !!! no photo I took was good, I just lost my passion and drive for it and actually got very sad that Id lost that love forever, then a friend of mine from school Tammy Watson was doing the photo a days and I loved her photos, so I thought maybe Ill give it a try and from the first day, I felt like I was back….Ive missed a few days but every day Ive been excited to post my photos and makes me feel so good that my pics are appreciated by people I dont even know, also I have now, because of this, enrolled in a photography course Ive wanted to do for years!! so just wanted to say thanks, for some people it might just be a fun thing to do but for me it meant so much more…..sorry for the soppy post haha, I just wanted to let you know 🙂 so excited for March!!!!

  • Joyce M

I had a friend that has done the photo of the day and she had a blast! I’m excited about playing along too!

  • anewlis

    Sounds like fun. I’m in!

  • This is a random question, but is there a special reason why some of the days have different colored numbers than the others? It’s always made me curious.. 🙂

  • This looks like so much fun! I just started a photo blog and I’m looking for something fun to do with it.. is it ok to jump in even if I missed a few days?

  • Debra

I am in again! Had a great time in February. Almost got all of them, but admittedly missed a couple. I’ll try to get them all in March.

  • Cristy

Love the photo a day challenges! When will April’s be posted so I can start planning?
